Chapter 89 — The Wang Family
Years of Heartflutter Page 1 of 2
"I've got Yang Ce in my hands. Does that count as good news?" Huang Shu said with a chuckle.
"Yang Ce?" Wang Lin's heart stirred, but his face betrayed nothing. "Uncle Huang, what did you grab him for? Does my dad know?"
"Heh, Zhitao, Mr. Wang knows about this, and he's agreed to it. I'm on my way to your place right now. Get ready, and we'll head over together," Huang Shu said.
"All right, then," Wang Lin said. He was puzzled, but he agreed anyway—after all, what Huang Shu was offering was simply too tempting to resist.
It would have been impossible for him not to hate Yang Ce. He wanted to hack Yang Ce to pieces and scatter the fragments to the wind—the grudge of having a love stolen from him twice over, and that humiliation at the Western restaurant. Just thinking about Yang Ce made Wang Lin tremble with rage.
The only problem was that Wang Lin had never found a chance to deal with Yang Ce. In a fight he couldn't beat him, and Wang Lin truly had no way at all. Now, hearing that Huang Shu had caught him, his mind began racing at once. The time for revenge had come.
Wang Lin wasn't too clear on the dealings between Wang Pu and Huang Shu, so he called his father anyway. "Hey, Dad, it's Zhitao. Uncle Huang just called me—he says he's caught Yang Ce."
"Oh, yes. Youcai gave you a call, did he?" Wang Pu said after a moment of thought. "Zhitao, whatever you want to do, go ahead and do it. Your father's behind you."
"Really?" Wang Lin was thrilled, but then he asked, "Dad, but having Huang Shu grab Yang Ce—will that work? Isn't it easy for something like this to blow up?"
"What time do you think this is? So what if it blows up?" Wang Pu said with a trace of contempt in his laugh. "Zhitao, there are some family matters I'll explain to you in detail when I find the time. For now, just know that Youcai is someone you can trust."
"Okay, I understand," Wang Lin said, somewhat baffled. He didn't understand why his father trusted Huang Shu so much, but since his father said so, there had to be a reason.
Wang Lin might sometimes let his head get hot and do impulsive things, but he wasn't stupid. From his father's tone just now, it seemed he and Huang Shu were up to something secret.
Before long, Wang Lin received another call from Huang Shu. "Zhitao, I'm downstairs at your place. Come on down."
"All right, Uncle Huang, I'll be right there." Wang Lin hung up, got dressed, and walked out of the bedroom.
Zhou Yanning was still in the living room downstairs. Seeing Wang Lin come out, she asked in some surprise, "Wang Lin, why are you out? Not resting?"
"Jiajia, I'm going out for a bit. Play by yourself here at home for a while," Wang Lin said.
"Oh. Where are you going? Want me to come with you?" Zhou Yanning asked, her interest piqued.
"No need. Aren't you working on your computer assignment? You can do it here, or you can go home too. You've got the keys to the place, right? Just lock the door when you leave," Wang Lin said.
"Okay, then go ahead." Zhou Yanning nodded and went back to fiddling with the computer in front of her. Over the past few days, Wang Lin had come to trust Zhou Yanning completely—he'd even given her a set of keys to the house so she could come check on him every day.
Since Wang Lin had been laid up and unable to move around these past few days, and the nanny, Aunt Li, was often out during the day buying groceries, giving Zhou Yanning the keys was only natural.
And these past few days, Wang Pu's hand had taken a turn for the worse, so Aunt Li had gone to the company to look after him. She only came home once each morning to change Wang Lin's sheets. Of course, she always did it before Zhou Yanning arrived—he absolutely didn't want Zhou Yanning to see him soiling the bed.
Wang Lin left the house without the slightest precaution, leaving Zhou Yanning all alone in his home.
Downstairs, Wang Lin spotted a motorhome. He recognized the vehicle—it belonged to his father's company, imported directly from Europe. Smuggled, actually. He just didn't know why it had never been registered. Smuggled cars couldn't be registered, of course, so it wasn't used often.
Still, a luxury car like that on the road rarely got stopped by traffic police. As long as it wasn't driven regularly, it was mostly taken for a wedding car, and they turned a blind eye.
Chinese people tend to fuss over auspicious times and the like, so wedding cars and funeral cars—even smuggled luxury ones—generally weren't stopped by traffic police. If you made someone miss their auspicious hour, the relatives would tear into you, so nobody wanted to invite that kind of unnecessary trouble.
That was why the motorhome, despite having no plates, still sailed through without a hitch.
Wang Lin got in and sat in the back beside Huang Shu.
"Uncle Huang..." Wang Lin glanced at the driver, then hesitated.
"It's fine. He's one of us," Huang Shu said.
Wang Lin looked at the driver with some surprise. Logically, the fewer people who knew about this sort of thing the better—so why had so many "one of us" suddenly cropped up?
"Where are we going now?" Wang Lin asked, still a little cautious.
"To see Yang Ce, of course," Huang Shu said with a smile. "So? Thought about how you're going to deal with him?"
Only after hearing Huang Shu say this did Wang Lin truly relax. Seeing that the driver up front still wore a blank expression, Wang Lin said, "We're not going to cause any trouble, are we?"
"What's there to be afraid of? Go ahead and cause all you want," Huang Shu said viciously. "Since I went to the trouble of bringing him here, I have no intention of letting him go back."
Although Huang Shu had only met Wang Lin a few times, he had a fair understanding of his character. Wang Lin was like him—the ruthless, merciless type—unlike Wang Pu, who was forever dithering.
Huang Shu thought this was what a man who did great things looked like, and he was full of confidence in this future young master of his.
"That's great. In that case, I'll have to think it over carefully. Last time I failed to take him down, and it nearly dragged me down with him," Wang Lin said happily.
"Zhitao, actually, you handled that last business well. It was a good idea. It's just that giving the photos to that girl—the one named Chen—was a bit rash," Huang Shu said. "With this sort of thing, man proposes but heaven disposes. Who could have guessed the victim would suddenly turn on us?"
"You're right, Uncle Huang." Wang Lin himself had come to feel that he'd been too rash back then. He shouldn't have given the photos to Chen Shutang. That way, even if Yang Moyi suspected something, there'd be no evidence.
The car drove on and on, and in no time they were on the highway.
"Uncle Huang, where exactly are we going?" Wang Lin asked with a frown. Though he'd confirmed with his father earlier that Huang Shu was reliable, they were clearly leaving the city now, and Wang Lin couldn't help but feel suspicious.
"To a territory of our Wang family," Huang Shu said, deliberately using the words "our" and "Wang family"—clearly currying favor with Wang Lin, making him feel that he was already in the same boat as the Wangs.
"A territory of the Wang family? How come I've never heard of it?" Wang Lin eyed Huang Shu with suspicion.
"The truth is, all these years, I've been working with Mr. Wang on a great undertaking. It's just that you were still young, Zhitao, and there were some things we couldn't tell you. This time, I intend to tell you all about it—and while I'm at it, let you see just how powerful the Wang family is," Huang Shu said, a little stirred.
"Then why didn't my dad tell me himself?" Wang Lin asked hesitantly.
"There are some things Director Wang finds hard to tell you himself, so he can only let me hint at them from the side," Huang Shu sighed. "Even though what Director Wang has done is a world-shaking matter, as a father, he does not want you to think of him as a bad man."
