Chapter 614 — Let Nature Take Its Course
After Liu Yu gave them a few words about conducting a thorough interrogation, he said nothing more. The police found it rather odd—was there something else going on with these small-time thugs?
Not daring to be negligent, they took them straight back to the station and prepared for a surprise interrogation.
And so Big Tooth and his crew met their misfortune. They had never been clean in their dealings to begin with, and faced with irrefutable evidence, prison awaited them.
Of course, at this point Big Tooth and the others still had no idea what they had done wrong, and kept shouting: "My dad works at the market management office! What's wrong with me collecting management fees for him? On what grounds are you arresting me?"
In Yang Juehuan's eyes these people were nobodies; Yang Ce would no longer spare them a thought.
Yang Shuoxuan paid the group no further attention and turned to look at the old fortune teller, Mo.
"Old Mo, since you have this gift of divination, there's no need for you to scrape a living here. Find a safer place in the future, and stop coming to this one," Yang Ce said mildly, glancing at the old man.
"I won't be coming back in any case. My purpose has been achieved," Old Mo said indifferently.
"Your purpose has been achieved?" Yang Ce was slightly taken aback, baffled.
"I was here waiting for a certain person. Now that I have met him, naturally I won't stay here any longer," Old Mo said.
"What do you mean? Who were you waiting for?" Yang Ce was all the more at a loss. The old man's words were full of riddles—who could tell what he was talking about?
"The person I was waiting for is you," Old Mo said, looking at Yang Ce with the same light, breezy air.
"The person you were waiting for is me?" Yang Ce was stunned, finding it hard to believe. "What do you want with me? Do you know me?"
"I don't know you, but you are the fated one chosen by Brother Sun," Old Mo said.
"Brother Sun?" Yang Juehuan's heart gave a sharp jolt. The name "Brother Sun" was somewhat unfamiliar, yet Yang Ce had already thought of something. Surname Sun... could it be him?
Still a street stall, still thugs causing trouble, still himself stepping in... could there be some chain of cause and effect at work here?
"Quite so! You should be able to guess whom I mean. The Brother Sun I speak of is him!" Old Mo looked at Yang Ce with a faint, ambiguous smile.
Yang Ce drew a deep breath and looked at Old Mo, his heart wound tight as a drum.
All along, the secret of the glasses had been Yang Ce's greatest secret. Apart from a very few people he trusted utterly, he had never mentioned it to anyone else. It was a forbidden zone deep in Yang Ce's heart.
But this old man Mo before him was clearly in the know. Watching Old Mo's calm demeanor, Yang Ce felt a stir in his heart—perhaps this man could give him help beyond anything he could imagine.
"Old Mo, could we have a word in private?" Yang Ce invited.
"Of course. The one I was waiting for has been met, so naturally I may leave. Having seen you, it is time I went back to where I belong..." Old Mo shook his head and spoke mildly.
The quietest place here was inside Liu Yu's car. Yang Ce made a gesture of invitation and had Old Mo get in, while the others remained outside. Some words might touch on Yang Juehuan's secrets, and so Yang Yongjin wanted no third party to hear.
"Old Mo, now you can speak. You sought me out because..." Yang Ce came straight to the point. With a man like this there was no need for concealment. Old Mo had made himself plain—he had come for Yang Ce—so what was there left for Yang Ce to hide?
"By my calculations, what you are about to walk into is a certain-death situation," Old Mo said calmly.
"A certain-death situation? You mean... the mission I'm undertaking in a few days?" Yang Lanxu asked, his heart tensing. Though Yang Ce himself did not much believe in fortune telling, the fact that this man could bring up that "Brother Sun" was proof enough that he was no ordinary person.
Some things could not be resolved within Yang Juehuan's understanding—the super glasses, for instance, were something science could not explain. That was why Yang Ce regarded Old Mo with such gravity.
"Yes, a certain-death situation... Since you are the fated one chosen by Brother Sun, it is my duty to warn you and to stop you from going..." Old Mo said.
"Ha... thank you for your kindness..." Yang Jincong gave a small laugh. "But it's too late now. Even if it is a certain-death situation, I must go, because I have no choice but to go!"
"Don't be hasty. Hear me out first!" Old Mo said mildly. "Calm yourself. Earlier, I did indeed intend to stop you, but now I have changed my mind!"
"Changed your mind?" Yang Ce was slightly taken aback.
"By your fate, this journey of yours is absolutely a certain-death situation. But a few days ago I met two people who are going to the same place as you, and their fates showed no sign of death. One of them, even if a sign existed, would not die until two years from now. This is completely at odds with what I inferred!" Old Mo said. "So I was greatly puzzled—how could they survive? But having met you today, I understand completely!"
"You mean Feng Yan and Xiao Susu?" Yang Yanchuan asked.
"The very same!" Old Mo nodded. "They will go with you. Since yours is a certain-death situation, theirs must be too—yet theirs is not. That is what I could never work out. But having seen you, I have it figured out."
"Not a certain-death situation?" Yang Yongjin asked, his expression shifting.
"It is, and yet it is a case of placing oneself in a death trap and coming out alive. There was no chance at all, but after despair, chance came again... This is not your original fate. But upon you there is an unknown factor, a factor that Brother Sun gave you, and that factor will be your crucial bargaining chip to turn defeat into victory!" Old Mo smiled faintly. "I overlooked this before. You are already one whose fate has been defied and rewritten—so your original fate, naturally, no longer counts!"
Though Old Mo's words were somewhat abstruse, Yang Ce still grasped the gist of them: this time, going to Yunnan, he would not die—and the important reason he would not die was, in all likelihood, those miraculous glasses of his.
"Thank you for the guidance!" Yang Ce smiled faintly. "Is there anything else I should watch out for?"
"This old man will leave you with one saying: let nature take its course. Do not force yourself to change anything. Well said is the proverb—when the cart reaches the mountain, a road will appear; when the boat reaches the bridge, it will straighten itself out!" Old Mo smiled faintly. "Sometimes, when you are in despair, you must hold on—and who knows, a new village may lie beyond the willows and bright blossoms?"
