Chapter 914 — Grandpa Sun's Help

The situation left Yang Ce rather vexed. He did not believe his ability had failed—no, it was because Dr. Ban Lin's laboratory had something special about it! Dr. Sun Ce could monitor the signals emitted by Yang Ce's lenses at any time—that had been so back in Miao Territory—and Grandpa Sun had told him this was a way to make contact, so Yang Cenbin now gave it a try, unsure whether the connection could still be established.

After a moment, Grandpa Sun's voice indeed rose in Yang Juehuan's mind: "Yang Ce, what's going on? Have you run into some trouble?"

"Grandpa Sun, it's like this..." Yang Yanzhou recounted everything that had happened over the past while to Sun Ce, and only at the end did he describe the puzzling scene from before.

"I see..." Grandpa Sun fell silent for a moment after hearing it, then said to Yang Ce, "I want to take over control of your eyes now and see for myself what you're seeing. Is that all right?"

"Of course, no problem!" Yang Yuting nodded and agreed without hesitation.

Yang Shuyu remarked that Sun Ce could use his lenses to view things, but he had never before done so without his permission—he had only ever examined the lenses' functions.

"Good, then let me take a look now." No sooner had Sun Ce spoken than Yang Ce was struck by a strange sensation, as though his whole being were being spied upon and watched—a killer's instinct and sixth sense, an innate and uncanny feeling!

And Yang Shuoxuan understood: Sun Ce had likely taken over the view before his eyes, which was why he felt this way!

"Yang Ce, go and look at Dr. Ban Lin's center base now. Let me see what's going on over there!" Sun Ce said.

"All right!" Yang Ce answered, and with that he began once more to survey the center base with his X-ray and farsighted vision. The result was the same as before: the moment Yang Juehuan's gaze reached that laboratory, Yang Ce could see no further!

Just as before, Yang Ce saw patch upon patch of blackness—but the moment he skipped past that area, he could still make out everything else clearly.

"Hmm... Yang Ce, from my preliminary judgment, Dr. Ban Lin has applied a new type of metal around his laboratory. This metal is an unknown substance, and when I developed these lenses, I never took such a case into account! The lenses can only see through certain known elements, so they cannot penetrate this metal!" Sun Ce roughly deduced what lay before them: "That's why what you see is a patch of darkness!"

"Ah! So this metal can't be seen through?" Yang Ce was rather disappointed. "Dr. Ban Lin certainly knows how to guard himself—but fortunately he didn't apply this metal to the entire center base. Otherwise I'd be able to see nothing at all!"

"Your lenses at first had only the farsighted function, but later I upgraded the firmware several times, adding X-ray vision, three-hundred-sixty-degree all-around sight, disguise, and so on! He had always assumed the lenses' functions were inherent to them, and that the reason he had not discovered them all was simply that he had not yet mastered their full use. But to his astonishment, his lenses' original function had in fact been only the basic farsighted one—much the same as ordinary glasses, seeing distant things clearly!

As for the functions that came later, Yang Ce had thought he had discovered them himself—but that was not so at all. They were functions Grandpa Sun Ce had upgraded and developed for him afterward!

"Heh, Yang Ce, surely you didn't think this pair of lenses always had all these functions?" Grandpa Sun Ce laughed.
