Chapter 346 — Breaking Through to Level Six

The Beast-Taming Craftsman Page 4 of 4

Still, he should head out and buy some tonics first, just in case. Teaching Susu was fine, but teaching the other beasts with mid-tier will — Shi Yu truly feared he still would not hold up. After all, the lower the will, the greater the drain.

"Ying!" "Wu!" "Yi!" "Mi!" "Ning!" "Yay!"

Something strange had mixed into the cries of the six beasts. Eleven and the others were staring at Shi Jin with excitement and delight.

Breakthrough!

Shi Jin Yu — allocating points?

And Shi Jin, after another faint smile, suddenly froze.

"Holy shit."

His heart jolted. Staring at the skill codex in his mind, he abruptly discovered an utterly unbelievable update.

Beyond the increase in base pages, the skill codex had indeed undergone another tremendous change!

As for pages, Shi Jin had basically stopped paying attention to them. Low-level skills could be deleted once maxed out, and with super-tier skills being so few, he could not even use up all the pages he had.

So the updates in other respects had become exactly what Shi Ying looked forward to.

The last time Shi Jin had a breakthrough, the Skill Codex had updated with a general teaching method for low-, mid-, and high-tier skills.

This time, what the update gave him was a general teaching method for transcendent-tier skills!

[Skill]: Undying Golden Body

[Skill Tier]: Transcendent

[Description]: ...

[Status]: ...

[General Teaching Method]: With the aid of earthfire, combine undying godmetal, shengsheng stone powder, the essence blood of an overlord-tier metal-attribute dragon, and the essence blood of an overlord-tier metal-attribute phoenix into a single substance and consume it. There is a chance of awakening the Undying Golden Body skill; the probability depends on the beast's talent, the beast's species, and the beast's compatibility with the skill.

Shi Jin glanced at it. For a moment he was thrilled; then his face fell.

Motherfucker.

What a useless update. He'd have been better off getting a method to rapidly raise skill proficiency.

For a long time now, Shi Jin had felt that the Skill Codex's general teaching methods were little better than chicken ribs.

Because a great many of the resources they called for were things Shi Jin had never even heard of.

What was undying godmetal? What was shengsheng stone?

Even bugged skills like Memory Water Drop and Time-Brewed Fruit had general teaching methods. Memory Water Drop's, for instance, was to have the beast absorb Dewdrops of Time.

Shi Jin dismissed it outright. What the hell was a Dewdrop of Time? He'd never heard of it, and not even the Third Bureau's top-tier breeding compendium recorded any such thing, nor anything remotely like it. The teaching materials taught you precisely nothing.

Undying godmetal and shengsheng stone were clearly the same story.

Only the methods for relatively common skills — Intimidation, Rapid Healing, Absolute Sleep and the like — were ones he could actually understand.

Soon enough, though, Shi Jin stopped caring about that.

Because another function unlocked by the Skill Codex update excited him far more.

On the last page of the Skill Codex appeared the image of an enormous black-and-white vortex furnace.

[Technique Fusion] (Locked)

[Description]: Two or more of a beast's skills at perfect-tier proficiency can be fused into a new skill. The higher the skills' proficiency and the greater their mutual compatibility, the higher the fusion success rate. The success rate also depends on the beast tamer's constitution and the beast's will.

Shi Jin: !!!!!

At first glance, Shi Jin took it for an ability that helped develop combination-technique ultimates, but in a flash he realized something was off. This wasn't combination — it was fusion!!

Fusing two different skills, completely and utterly, into one new skill!

This was plainly an ability that living creatures only possessed after reaching totem tier.

Totem-tier creatures could develop new skills of their own, develop new species skills, and tailor species skills for their descendants; they had the capacity to optimize skills and optimize species.

But Shi Jin hadn't expected the Skill Codex to unlock it for him all at once, ahead of schedule.

What did that mean?

Shi Jin knew all too well.

First, it meant he could fuse skills with extremely low ceilings into stronger ones.

For example, fuse Iron Tendons and Steel Bones + Hundredfold Tempering + Tyrant Body Armor + Rapid Healing + Super Vision + Absolute Sleep + Multiplication together, and who knew — he might come out with a transcendent-tier constitution skill to rival a divine skill. And then he could keep raising it through stat points, up to Masterwork or even Art Beyond Technique.

Beyond that, if he could fuse two transcendent skills into one, then as the skill grew stronger, wouldn't that mean spending half the stat points?

At the same time, it was also equivalent to walking his own path.

Chongxuan had once said that maxing out transcendent-tier species skills was not the prerequisite for ascending to myth. The prerequisite was developing, in conjunction with one's species, a unique divine skill belonging to oneself and suited to one's species. Through this Technique Fusion, perhaps one could help a beast develop one far more efficiently?

"Now I'm invincible. Truly invincible..."

"I fuse a pile of maxed-out low-tier skills into a stronger transcendent skill, then max that out too... the Dragon God and the Meteor Yak would weep at the sight."

"Wait, why is it locked???? Damn it, what's the meaning of this!!!"
