Chapter 107 — We'll See About That

The Blossom Guardian

……………………

When they reached the entrance of the snack street, Gu Mengyao was just about to tell Wei Zhao to fetch the car when she frowned, a flicker of irritation crossing her face. "Who parked like this? Have they no manners at all?"

Wei Zhao saw it too now: Gu Mengyao's Audi S5 was boxed in by several sports cars, though none of them were particularly high-end—a Geely Vision Coupe, a Hyundai Rohens, and the best of the lot, an Audi TT, still a grade below the S5.

Seeing Wei Zhao, Gu Mengyao, and Shen Yushu approach, a group of sharply dressed young people gathered around, whistling.

"These yours?" Wei Zhao glanced at the group. He could more or less guess that the cars hemming them in belonged to them—otherwise there was no way anyone would happen to be standing right here.

"Hey, brother, this your car?" A trendy-looking young man eyed the Audi S5 and addressed Wei Zhao.

"Move your cars." Wei Zhao did not answer. His face dark, he simply gave the order.

"What's with the attitude?" One of the girls shoved the young man who had just spoken aside. "It's just an S5, isn't it? It's not like I can't afford one. I see yours is the latest model—thought I'd have a word with you..."

"The car is mine. Who are you supposed to be? Stop blocking the road, or I'll call the police." Gu Mengyao frowned; she had no patience for this little delinquent. It wasn't the first time she'd run into something like this, though she always settled it by calling the police.

"Huh? The car isn't yours?" The girl glanced oddly at the car key in Wei Zhao's hand. "A driver? Doesn't look like one. You're her kept boy toy, aren't you?"

"Get lost!" Gu Mengyao was furious. What kind of talk was that? Kept boy toy? Couldn't she tell he was her enforcer? "Wei Zhao, get rid of them for me."

"Uh..." Wei Zhao gave a wry smile and said to the girl, "You heard her, didn't you? My young lady wants you to leave."

"Your young lady?" The girl blinked. "Oh, I get it. So you're her bodyguard."

"..." Wei Zhao offered no further explanation and simply nodded.

"How boring. You're pretty handsome—I thought you were some rich young master." The girl turned to Gu Mengyao. "So the car's yours. How about a race? Dare you?"

"Are you insane? Race what? I'm not brain-dead—why would I drag race?" Gu Mengyao said. "Are you going to move the car or not? Shall I call the police and have them tow it?"

"Tch, go ahead and call." The girl looked at Gu Mengyao with disdain. "Parking isn't prohibited here. What's the police going to do?"

"Wei Zhao, you handle this." Gu Mengyao, furious with the girl, pointed at Wei Zhao.

"Me?" Wei Zhao pointed at himself. But since the young lady had given the order, when else was the great human shield going to step up? Wei Zhao took two steps forward. "So you're not moving the cars?"

Dealing with rich young masters and misses like these was genuinely awkward for Wei Zhao—he couldn't very well get rough. Most of these people weren't bad at heart; they had simply lacked discipline at home, which was what had bred their rebellious streaks.

They were fundamentally different from the petty thugs who ran the streets. These kids were only looking for thrills, whereas the thugs made their living by stirring up trouble.

"So what if we don't move it?" The girl planted her hands on her hips defiantly.

"Which car is yours?" Wei Zhao gave her a mild glance and smiled.

"This one. What about it?" The girl pointed at the Audi TT blocking the S5's front.

Wei Zhao looked at the Audi TT and smiled faintly. This girl was clearly the leader of the bunch, and her status was certainly no simple matter compared to the rest.

Sports cars like Geely and Hyundai are generally affordable for any family of even modest means—nothing to make a fuss over. True, the lowest trim of an Audi TT still runs over five hundred thousand, but the license plate on this one made it plain that the girl's family was no ordinary household.

The Audi TT bore the plate Song A-T-T-0-0-0—no wonder the girl spoke with such swagger. Wei Zhao, however, paid it no mind. So long as he did not go too far, even a girl with a formidable family behind her would not kick up a fuss on her behalf.

And from the car the girl drove, one could tell that her family had originally meant for her to keep a low profile; the plate had likely been arranged by some relative or friend angling to curry favor with her.

Wei Zhao walked around to the front of the Audi TT and laid one hand on its rear. The little delinquent girl and the others fell silent, watching him with a certain puzzlement, unable to guess what he meant to do.

"Don't tell me this fool's thinking of pushing the car?" The trendy young man who had spoken before broke the silence, as though he had divined Wei Zhao's intent. "You out of your mind? This thing weighs over a ton, and the handbrake's on—you think you can push it?"

Wei Zhao ignored him. His single hand flattened into a palm and drove forward against the rear of the Audi TT in a quick shove—a blow that looked utterly simple, yet the Audi TT was shoved straight out, leaving a row of tire marks smeared across the ground with a shrill screech.

"Holy—no way?" The young man who had been so smugly calling Wei Zhao a fool was struck dumb himself. "It actually moved?"

"My car..." The little delinquent girl gave a start, caught between shock and distress, and could not help crying out at the sight of her tires worn down. Yet Wei Zhao had not truly overstepped; she wanted to make trouble, but had no pretext for it. The whole affair had begun with her blocking someone else's lane, after all. At that thought, the girl turned to the young man from before, seeking help.

"Looking to die, are you? You dare lay a hand on Sister Feng's car? Tired of living?" The young man had played the gallant more than once or twice; in a situation like this, it was hard for a girl to step forward, but he had no such scruples and jumped out at once.

Sister Feng? Wei Zhao was startled. Had he run into a figure out of legend? He looked closely at the little delinquent's face—this was no Sister Feng. Even caked in makeup like a ghost, she looked nothing like Sister Feng. It had to be a case of the same name...

Wei Zhao paid him no mind, casually sweeping him aside, and then, under the stunned gazes of the crowd, shoved the Hyundai Rongyu blocking the S5's flank sideways out of the way.

That earlier feat—pushing the Audi TT from its rear—had been startling enough, though a man of some strength could manage it. But pushing a car out sideways from its flank was a far harder trick, and the resistance involved could well be imagined.

"You—" The trendy young man still wanted to say a few more words, but seeing that Wei Zhao was indeed formidably strong, and that this was a busy commercial street where they might provoke a quarrel but could hardly start a brawl, he got out the single word "you" and then froze there.

"I'll remember you. As long as you're still in Songshan, we'll settle this." The little delinquent girl glared venomously at Wei Zhao. Today this creature had made her lose face utterly, and this grudge she would surely settle one day.
