Chapter 126 — Helping Her Out of a Tight Spot

The Blossom Guardian

"Three times a day, morning, noon and evening. Just heat it in the microwave and drink it, or skip the heating if you like. There are not many rules, not many taboos either. Just don't drink alcohol." Wei Zhao handed Yang Huaijun a bag of brewed herbal medicine. At that moment only two students on cleaning duty remained in the classroom, so no one paid any attention to what Wei Zhao had actually come back to fetch.

"I haven't touched a drop of liquor in ages, and my body can't handle it anyway." Yang Huaijun gave a bitter smile. "This should be enough for a week, right?"

"Yes, exactly a week's supply..." Wei Zhao nodded. "After a week, we'll see how your body is recovering, and then I'll prescribe according to your condition."

"All right, I'll head back first. For a great kindness, no words of thanks suffice. Where should I pick you up tomorrow? At the school again..." Yang Huaijun asked.

"At the school gate tomorrow morning. Park a little farther off and we'll keep in touch by phone," Wei Zhao said after a moment's thought.

After seeing Yang Huaijun off, Wei Zhao turned and headed for the restroom. He had meant to relieve himself earlier, but Wang Zhifeng had called him back, and only now that Yang Huaijun was gone did his body's need make itself felt.

Passing the neighboring Class Nine of the senior year, he caught a glimpse of Tang Zhi carrying a basin, her figure flitting past the doorway. She was probably on cleaning duty, but upon seeing Wei Zhao, the head that had popped out promptly withdrew again.

Wei Zhao smiled wryly. Surely the girl didn't think he had come to her classroom door on purpose to spy on her? Otherwise why hide? He bared his teeth at her in a grin. "I'm going to the restroom."

"Huh?" Tang Zhi was taken aback. Only after watching Wei Zhao's receding figure did she stamp her foot in annoyance. Why tell her he was going to the restroom? This fellow was definitely teasing her...

She really wanted to rush over and dump the basin of dirty water in her hands over his head, but she didn't quite dare. Now and then she dared to pull little tricks to needle Wei Zhao, but something so outrageous she did not dare attempt. Wei Zhao was, after all, a young master; if she angered him and he cast aside his previous pretense of gentility to do something outrageous to her, Tang Zhi would be caught completely off guard.

Only when Wei Zhao had fully entered the restroom did Tang Zhi hurry over, dump the dirty water like a thief, quickly fill the basin with clean water, and flee back toward her classroom as if escaping.

But before she had run two steps, she collided with someone. The basin in her hands slipped from her grasp and its contents flew straight out. "Ah..."

When Tang Zhi saw who it was, she immediately lowered her head in fright. "Director Wang..."

"How do you walk, you student?" Wang Zhifeng was about to explode with rage. He had come to Class Five of the senior year to check whether anything had happened to Wei Zhao; with Yang Huaijun present earlier, he hadn't dared ask too much, so he had planned to inquire privately and make sure there really was no trouble. Yet no sooner had he reached the door of Class Nine than a student came head-on and flung a basin of cold water in his face, leaving him drenched like a drowned rat.

"Director Wang, I'm sorry..." Tang Zhi was at a loss. She was the kind of good student who devoted herself single-mindedly to her studies and kept out of trouble; never had she committed such a serious mistake as drenching the dean of students in cold water. This was no small matter. Though she hadn't been looking where she was going, Tang Zhi knew that was no excuse...

"Sorry? Is 'sorry' enough? What class are you in?" Wang Zhifeng wiped the water from his face, saw that it was clean, and breathed a sigh of relief. If it had been dirty water, he, the dean of students, would have lost all face!

"I... I'm in Class Nine of the senior year..." Tang Zhi kept her head down. She had never told a lie, so under Wang Zhifeng's questioning she confessed the truth. In fact, standing at the door of Class Nine, lying would have been useless anyway.

"Go back and write a self-criticism, then read it aloud in the broadcasting room!" Wang Zhifeng didn't care whether the student had done it on purpose or by accident; he had to make a show of it, or how would his authority as dean stand in the future? Would other students think they could throw water on him too?

"The broadcasting room..." Tang Zhi's heart lurched. Normally that was where only the bad students went to make their self-criticisms... and today it was her turn. At the thought, Tang Zhi felt rather wronged. If not for Wei Zhao, why would she have been running? But how was she supposed to explain that to Director Wang? After all, the fact was that she had run carelessly. Yet a self-criticism... for a top student like Tang Zhi, this was truly a predicament!

From childhood to now, Tang Zhi had never written a self-criticism, nor committed any fault. At the thought, her eyes grew red and she was on the verge of tears. She, a girl, going to the broadcasting room to make a self-criticism...

"Ha, Director Wang, just had a shower, have you? Though your hairstyle is pretty cool, you look quite a bit younger!" Wei Zhao emerged from the restroom just in time to see Tang Zhi accidentally fling the water, and he couldn't help but laugh inwardly. This girl was a bit too careless! Then he saw Wang Zhifeng berating Tang Zhi, and Wei Zhao didn't think much of it. It served her right to get a dressing-down from Wang Zhifeng, this little prickly pear, so she'd stop picking fault with him at every turn. But when he saw Tang Zhi on the verge of tears, Wei Zhao's heart softened, and he strode over.

"Ah? Uh..." Wang Zhifeng hadn't expected to run into Wei Zhao at such a moment. And with Wei Zhao praising his hairstyle, true or not, he could hardly bring up the matter of Tang Zhi's water-throwing. He could only grunt and nod. "The weather's getting warmer, so a shower cools you down nicely!"

"Oh, I thought you'd just finished some exercise, Director!" Wei Zhao chuckled.

"Ha... Watching the students do their morning exercises, I joined in for a bit..." Seeing Wei Zhao's rather wicked smile, Wang Zhifeng broke into a cold sweat. This kid was no easy mark, all right! So he really did know everything about what happened that day!

"Oh..." Wei Zhao nodded, then suddenly turned to look at Tang Zhi. "Huh, Tang Zhi, what are you doing here... No need to wait for me, go back to your classroom first. I need to talk to the director about something!"

"What?" Tang Yunge had not expected Wei Zhao to be so familiar with Wang Zhifeng, chatting about everyday matters as casually as that. But then she considered his standing; he was a young master with deep connections, so of course Wang Zhifeng gave him face. Yet at this moment Tang Yunge also understood that Wei Zhao was helping her out of an awkward spot. A faint bitterness rose in her heart; she, the top student, counted for less than Wei Zhao, a profligate young master. She glanced at Wei Zhao, then at Wang Zhifeng...

Wang Zhifeng had not expected Wei Zhao to know the female classmate who had splashed water on him. When the classmate raised her head, Wang Zhifeng finally saw clearly that it was Tang Yunge, the school beauty, and could not help but smile bitterly... It seemed there must be something between Wei Zhao and her. No wonder Wei Zhao had hinted at him earlier; it must have been to make him let Tang Yunge off the hook!

Wang Zhifeng was no fool. Wei Zhao had spoken clearly enough and had given him ample room to back down gracefully. If he failed to take the hint, he feared Wei Zhao would expose what he had been doing in the sports field. At this thought, Wang Zhifeng laughed heartily. "Hurry on back. Wei Zhao and I have matters to discuss; in a little while I will have him come find you!"
