Chapter 261 — Shen Yushu Catches a Ghost, Part Two
All that earlier business, well, that could be forgiven. But this zombie was calling out her name as it came at her—how could Gu Mengyao not be frightened?
"Huh?" Shen Yushu was puzzled. "Sister Yaoyao, this zombie's got smarts? It knows your name?"
"How would I know... Xiaoshu, I'm a little scared now," Gu Mengyao said. Something about this really did feel uncanny—how could the zombie possibly know her name?
"Maybe one of the park staff recognized you as Uncle Chu's daughter and tweaked the program on the spot to butter you up?" Shen Yushu thought it over, and that was the only possibility she could come up with. She couldn't guess at any other, since no names had been required when they bought their tickets.
"Xiaoshu, I'm getting scared. Let's just hurry out of here, all right?" Gu Mengyao did not want to stay a moment longer. Something about this place made her deeply uncomfortable.
"It's fine, Sister Yaoyao—let me take care of this zombie for you!" Shen Yushu, however, charged at the zombie in high spirits. "La la la, I'm an expert at catching ghosts..."
Shen Yushu rushed up beside the zombie and stamped down hard, her foot landing on the back of its foot. Zhang Yuzhou let out a miserable howl and went hopping off to one side on his tiptoes, much faster than before...
"Yay, Sister Yaoyao, look—I chased the zombie off!" Shen Yushu beamed with triumph at the zombie she had sent fleeing with a stomp. "This program's really well designed—Uncle Chu ought to give whoever made it a commendation. Step on this zombie and it even runs away!"
By now Gu Mengyao had been won over by Shen Yushu's antics too, and she was ready to believe her earlier guess: someone must have recognized her as the young Miss Chu and specially altered the haunted house's computer program on the spot, all to curry favor with her!
After Shen Yushu's little performance, Gu Mengyao was no longer quite so afraid. Watching the zombie run faster than a rabbit, she ordered Wei Zhao, "Wei Zhao, go catch that zombie and bring it back to me."
"Okay." Wei Zhao nodded.
Zhang Yuzhou silently cried disaster. Surely the little miss wasn't cooking up some other nasty trick to torment him? He was just about to quicken his hopping and get away from this cursed place when he felt a hand seize him by the scruff of the neck. Then he was weightless, flying through the air, and came down hard at the feet of Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu.
"Ha, the zombie's back! Sister Yaoyao, let's keep playing with the zombie!" With that, Shen Yushu leapt up from the ground and came down with both feet square on the zombie's belly—that is, on Zhang Yuzhou's—stomping and kicking away...
Zhang Yuzhou let out a shriek, certain his guts were about to be stomped right out of him. The pain rolled his eyes back and he passed out cold...
"Boring..." After a few more stomps, Shen Yushu found the zombie had stopped howling and hopped down, interest flagging. "The quality of this zombie is terrible. Two stomps and it's broken already. I wonder which company made it? Uncle Chu should go file a complaint!"
"Heh..." Gu Mengyao found it rather funny—those were the haunted house's prop models, after all. Stomp on them directly like that, and of course they'd break!
Jin Maosheng stared at Zhang Yuzhou, stomped half to death, and a black line slid down his forehead. How was this girl called Shen Yushu fiercer than that guard named Wei Zhao?
Shen Yushu had essentially wrecked the whole plan. There was no point in trying to frighten Gu Mengyao now—she would not be scared anymore!
Jin Maosheng was furious. Gu Mengyao was plainly terrified of ghosts; when Xiao Ma patted her earlier, she had already been badly frightened. If Zhang Yuzhou and he had coordinated in time, there was no doubt they could have scared the wits out of her!
In fact, he could see that Gu Mengyao truly was afraid of this sort of thing. But of all people, Shen Yushu had started making trouble the moment Xiao Ma appeared—not only kicking Xiao Ma where it would leave him without heirs, but probably stomping Zhang Yuzhou's guts clean out of place too. What kind of mess was this!
Playing ghost and getting stomped instead—could there be any more wretched fate in the world? Could it possibly get any worse?
The plan to dress as a ghost and frighten Gu Mengyao to death was no longer workable. A flicker of regret crossed Jin Maosheng's face, but he was not one to keep at a thing once it became impossible.
There was no point in playing ghost here any longer. Jin Maosheng decided to leave first and think things over, to work out the next step of the plan—Gu Mengyao had to die today.
Jin Maosheng turned to go, only to hear Shen Yushu's furious shout behind him: "Hey, you vampire—where do you think you're running!"
Jin Maosheng's vision went black and he nearly pitched over onto the ground. Was a man not even allowed to run away now? He tried to quicken his pace and ignore that ferocious girl Shen Yushu, but then he felt something strike the back of his head with a "bang," followed by a burst of searing pain, and he swayed and toppled to the ground...
"Yes! A direct hit—this vampire can't take a punch at all, can he?" Shen Yushu danced with delight. What she had thrown was a zombie's shoe...
"Xiaoshu, why does that vampire look like it's bleeding from the back of its head?" Gu Mengyao stared at the fallen Jin Maosheng and asked, somewhat puzzled.
"They made it realistic, that's all!" Shen Yushu had no idea what was really going on either, but she did not much care. "Who cares—come on, Sister Yaoyao, let's go catch some more ghosts!"
"Oh, all right..." Gu Mengyao nodded and followed Shen Yushu onward...
Wei Zhao looked at the two things lying on the ground and was at a loss for words. Those two poor fools were simply too unlucky—treated by Shen Yushu as playthings...
After that there were no more ghosts or monsters that Shen Yushu could get her hands on. Even after they came out of the haunted house, she still wanted more. "Only three ghosts I could hit—that's a bit too few. Sister Yaoyao, why don't you suggest to Uncle Chu that he add a few more? Next time we come, we'll play again!"
"If they add more, won't you just break those too?" Gu Mengyao still had not realized that those three things had in fact been real people, not props.
"Hee hee..." Shen Yushu stuck out her tongue. "I really regret not bringing a DV—if I'd recorded it, everyone could see my heroic ghost-bashing!"
The whole trip through the haunted house had taken about an hour, and counting the time they had waited before that, it was now close to noon.
"Sister Yaoyao, should we grab something to eat first, or go bungee jumping first?" Shen Yushu was a little hungry.
"Let's eat first. I'm a bit hungry too." After making a round through the haunted house, Gu Mengyao did feel she had used up some energy.
There were plenty of fast-food restaurants in the amusement park. Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu casually picked one that looked reasonably pleasant and found a seat.
"Wei Zhao, go buy the food." Gu Mengyao drew two hundred yuan from her purse and handed it to Wei Zhao.
