Chapter 310 — The Bodyguard Appears

The Blossom Guardian

Xie Guangbo started, then seemed to grasp where Wei Zhao had come from. His expression turned stern. "So Gu Pengzhan sent you? Hmph. You can leave. Go back and tell him there is nothing to discuss."

"Have you been eating too many idiot pills? Could he have sent me? I'm helping of my own accord this time!" Wei Zhao curled his lip. Did this fool really think himself such a small potato that he warranted a messenger? Ridiculous. Gu Pengzhan might treat him well, but Wei Zhao had come to Songshan City purely because of the old man at home. Apart from Old Man Wei and his assassin master, no one could order Wei Zhao about.

"Then what are you here for..." Xie Guangbo was rather surprised by this. It seemed this fellow truly was not one of Gu Pengzhan's men. Then what did he do?

Wei Zhao frowned with some impatience. "I am Gu Mengyao's bodyguard!"

"What?" Xie Guangbo was dumbfounded. Gu Mengyao's bodyguard had come looking for him? Was this not sticking his nose where it did not belong? "You're Gu Mengyao's bodyguard. Shouldn't you be protecting her? What are you doing here?"

"I called you an idiot and you still don't believe it," Wei Zhao glared at him as though at a fool. "Gu Pengzhan is Gu Mengyao's father. If he loses his job, who's going to pay my wages?"

Wei Zhao said this only to distance himself from Gu Pengzhan, so that if things truly came to light, Gu Pengzhan could wash his hands of the whole affair. Word getting out that he had intimidated shareholders would do his reputation no good.

Xie Guangbo was left speechless. Which of us is the idiot here, really? You're a bodyguard, and you come meddling in company business? But then something seemed to dawn on Xie Guangbo, and he said, "You've come for money, haven't you? Go on then—how much do you want?"

No wonder Xie Guangbo took Wei Zhao for a man after money; his position and the business he had come to stick his nose into did not match up in the slightest.

"Why do you have so much useless chatter? Do you want to die?" Wei Zhao lashed out with his foot at the safe beside him, sending the several-hundred-catty iron safe flying clean up into the air. With a thunderous crash it landed right in front of Xie Guangbo, a single centimeter from the tips of his toes.

Xie Guangbo was caught completely off guard. Cold sweat broke out instantly on his forehead. Was this even human? Was he really just a bodyguard? How could he be this formidable, kicking a several-hundred-catty safe into the air with one foot? Then he looked at the safe again, and a chill ran down his back.

There was a great hole in the side of the safe—kicked clean through by Wei Zhao! A vault safe like this was thick iron plate on all four sides, and he had kicked a hole right through it? A thief would strain to cut one open with an electric saw, and this man did it with his foot?

Of course, none of that was the main point. The main point was that if the safe had flown a little higher or a little farther, his old life would likely have been over.

"I want you to stay a little farther away from Jin Gubang. Understand?" Wei Zhao could not be bothered to ask why the fool had gone to help Jin Gubang. So long as the fellow feared death, he would do well to keep his distance from Jin Gubang.

"..." Xie Guangbo's face was ashen, but he said nothing. He could not answer Wei Zhao. If he kept his distance from Jin Gubang, what would become of his son? So though Xie Guangbo was afraid, he could not bow his head. "Tell me—how much money will it take for you to let me off?"

"Money? Are you very rich?" Wei Zhao walked over with contempt, and Xie Guangbo instinctively shrank back.

But Wei Zhao did not lay a hand on Xie Guangbo. Instead he walked to the safe, dented by his kick, reached out, and gave a hard pull—and the whole door of the safe came off in his hands.

"Is there money in this safe?" Wei Zhao casually rummaged through the contents, came upon a bankbook, and opened it—only to be disappointed. The bankbook showed a great sum, fully forty million, but it had all been withdrawn a few days ago. "There's only a few yuan left in your account. How are you going to pay me?"

"That..." Only then did Xie Guangbo remember that all his savings had been transferred to his son abroad a few days ago. How could he have money left to give the Wei Zhao standing before him?

"Tsk. Seems you're in urgent need of money. Is that why you agreed to side with Jin Gubang?" Wei Zhao tossed the bankbook aside and went on rummaging through the safe. When he pulled out a stack of documents, he smiled. "Shares in the Gu Group? Good. Now you can transfer them to me."

"No!" Xie Guangbo sat bolt upright, a look of resolve on his face. "That is absolutely out of the question!"

"Oh? Is that so?" Wei Zhao tossed the shares aside. "Your life or the shares—which will it be?"

Just then, however, the door was kicked open and a man burst in. The moment he was through the door he cried, "Mr. Xie, are you all right?"

But no sooner had the words left his mouth than he caught sight of Wei Zhao, and the man tensed at once. He had heard a tremendous crash from Xie Guangbo's room, sensed something amiss, and rushed up—and at the sight of Wei Zhao he was instantly on his guard as though facing a mortal foe.

The man was about thirty-odd, plain of feature, the sort who would easily go unnoticed in a crowd. For such a man to serve as a bodyguard was simply perfect.

At the sight of the man entering, Xie Guangbo let out a breath of relief, a relaxed expression spreading across his face. He knew well the strength of his bodyguard; formidable as Wei Zhao might be, he was no match for this man.

"Ah Huang, finish him!" Xie Guangbo ordered the man who had come in. This was someone who could threaten his life, and Xie Guangbo would not suffer him to remain in this world.

Otherwise, this time he had a bodyguard to protect him, but a bodyguard could not stay at his side twenty-four hours a day. Especially since Wei Zhao had been able to slip into his room without a sound; if there was a first time, there would be a second. Such ghostlike, elusive skill truly frightened Xie Guangbo. If next time Wei Zhao struck without warning him, he would have no escape.

"Who are you?" Yet even as he shouted the question, he had already sprung into the air, swinging a fist straight at Wei Zhao.

"Heh..." Wei Zhao smiled faintly, casually raising his fist and standing rooted where he was, as though waiting to receive the newcomer.

The man was taken aback, not having expected Wei Zhao to try to take his punch head-on. Astonished as he was, he also poured more force into his hand, preparing to kill Wei Zhou with a single blow.

For trespassing into a private residence and threatening its owner, he would bear no responsibility even if he killed the man on the spot. With Xie Guangbo's order, the man called Ah Huang prepared to beat Wei Zhao to death outright.
