Chapter 344 — Thank You, Brother-in-Law

The Blossom Guardian

"It's like this, Grandpa Guan. I'll give you an account number, and you can transfer two hundred thousand into it for me." Wei Zhao passed on the account number Tang Zhi had sent him.

"Mm, all right. I'll have Xinxin transfer it through online banking in a bit." Guan Xuewen noted down the number and, without asking what Wei Zhao needed it for, agreed straight away.

"Then I'll have to trouble you, Grandpa Guan. As for the pharmaceutical company, I'll come over and we can talk it over properly once I have some free time in the next few days. I don't know the first thing about operations, so I'll still have to impose on you." Wei Zhao felt a little embarrassed — all he had provided was a prescription, and yet he could sit back and take a share of the profits.

"As for operations, if you won't step forward yourself, you'd best find a spokesman. I'm an old man — I can handle the social side of things for you, but when it comes to actual sales, you young people are better suited to it!" Guan Xuewen gave a wry smile. "To be honest with you, I'm an old pedant, and when it comes to running a business, I might even be worse than you!"

"Is that so..." Only after hearing Guan Xuewen's advice did Wei Zhao realize this. Before, he had simply thought that with Guan Xuewen's reputation to borrow and his own prescriptions to offer, he could get a pharmaceutical company up and running. But now, hearing Guan Xuewen's words, he saw that it was not as simple as he had imagined: with a name and with proven efficacy, one still had to know how to run the business.

"Indeed. My youngest son would actually be a fitting candidate — he's Xinxin's father — but I don't want him mixed up in any of this." Guan Xuewen suggested, "If you won't manage it yourself, then you must find someone trustworthy to keep an eye on things for you. As for marketing, you can bring in a professional manager."

"Grandpa Guan, isn't Guan Xin a shareholder in the company? She could keep an eye on things for me." Wei Zhao suddenly recalled that Guan Xin was also a shareholder, and his thoughts turned to her.

"Heh, even if Xinxin is a shareholder, she represents me. You'll still need a representative of your own on that side." Guan Xuewen smiled. "By the way, if you have time, come over and prepare a trial batch of the medicines you plan to put on the market, so I can send them for testing and get the approval documents."

"No problem — this weekend, then." Wei Zhao thought it over. Accompanying Kang Xiaofeng to his second granduncle's birthday banquet shouldn't take long, and afterward he could drop by Guan Xuewen's place to have a look.

He still had some of the healing salve on hand — the last batch he had prepared was not yet used up. As for the painkiller Yang Huaijun used, Guan Xuewen already had the formula, and would likely have prepared a trial batch by now.

For starters, they would launch just these two medicines. Too many, and the remarkable qualities of each would fail to stand out. Only once these two made a splash would they gradually roll out the other new products, which would draw even more attention.

Guan Xin took the account number her grandfather handed her and glanced at the account name — Tang Zhi. Her heart sank a little, and she felt a faint twinge of envy, but she still transferred the two hundred thousand as Wei Zhao had asked.

Mother Tang's bank card had been opened under Tang Zhi's name; originally it was where Tang Zhi kept her New Year's money and pocket money. After Tang Jucheng was injured, Tang Zhi contributed all the New Year's money she had saved up over the years, and Mother Tang could not be bothered to open a new account, so she simply used Tang Zhi's card as the family's savings card.

"Beep-beep..." A text message alert sounded. This card had originally been linked to Tang Jucheng's phone.

Tang Jucheng took out his phone and glanced at the message, and was somewhat startled: "Two hundred thousand came in?"

"Two hundred thousand?" Mother Tang was stunned at first, then overjoyed. She snatched her husband's phone and studied the figures carefully, counting the zeros over and over, until she had confirmed it was two hundred thousand and not twenty thousand. Only then did she say happily, "Yun'er, I told you Little Lin was the right sort! You only asked for a hundred and fifty thousand, but he sent two hundred thousand — looks like he heard what I said just now!"

"..." Tang Zhi looked at her mother's delight and could not tell whether she should be happy along with her or simply resigned. Two hundred thousand... she would never be able to repay it now.

"Old Tang, your surgery money is here! We'll go to the hospital tomorrow!" No one was happier than Mother Tang. The surgery fee for her husband that had weighed on her heart was finally settled. With the operation, her husband had a chance of standing again, and the family would no longer have to rely on her alone to manage everything.

"Sis, is brother-in-law really a rich second generation?" Xiaowei was astonished too, and even felt as if he were dreaming. Before, it had been no more than a passing thought; he had not really believed his sister could borrow a hundred and fifty thousand just by opening her mouth. But who would have thought his sister's word carried even more weight — she asked for a hundred and fifty thousand, and the man sent two hundred thousand!

"What rich second generation!" Tang Zhi glared at him. "He's not your brother-in-law either! This money still has to be repaid!"

"Hey, sis, you're blushing!" Xiaowei chuckled and nodded. "Of course we'll repay it! Xiaodan and I will scrimp and save, and we'll pay it back!"

"You little brat, what do you know!" Tang Zhi snorted crossly, but then it occurred to her that Xiaowei really was no little brat — he was only half a year younger than she was, and he and Xiaodan had already become a couple long ago! Looked at that way, he was more experienced than she was.

"Sis, thank brother-in-law for me! If he comes by one day, you must call Xiaodan and me — we want to thank him in person!" Xiaowei grinned.

"That's right, Sister Tang Zhi, we really should thank him..." Xiaodan felt as if she were dreaming too. An hour ago Xiaowei had been dead set on selling a kidney, and in the blink of an eye the money was raised.

Watching her mother and brother so happy, Tang Zhi felt a tightness in her chest. Was what she was doing right, or was it wrong? Was this what they meant by sacrificing one person to make a whole family happy?

Tang Zhi clutched her phone, stepped out of the house, and once more returned to the courtyard. She hesitated again and again, yet Wei Zhao, of all things, had not called! Tang Zhi was somewhat annoyed. Did this fellow not treat money as money at all? He had transferred two hundred thousand and still had not phoned to confirm whether it had arrived! What if the transfer had gone astray?

Tang Zhi had no choice but to dial Wei Zhao's number once more.

"Hello? Wei Zhao?" Seeing that Wei Zhao said nothing, Tang Zhi ventured a tentative question.

"Mm..." Wei Zhao gave a response.

"What are you doing? Why aren't you saying anything?" Tang Zhi found it rather odd.

"Drinking water. Done now." Wei Zhao set down the cup in his hand; he had been drinking water just now when Tang Zhi's call came in.

"Oh..." Tang Zhi was truly speechless. He did not ask whether the money had arrived, but leisurely went off to drink water. She really could not tell whether he had far too much money, and yet that did not seem to be the case either! He drove a beat-up van, so he hardly looked like someone terribly wealthy, did he?
