Chapter 387 — So You're Still Watching
Yet Mighty General seemed rather clever, and professionally trained at that. A single gesture from Wei Zhao, and it came trotting over, tail wagging with all its might.
Though Mighty General was afraid of Wei Zhao deep down, it dared not show it, and could only put on a look of great joy and delight. In its heart it felt that Wei Zhao might butcher it and eat its meat at any moment!
Wei Zhao led Mighty General to the courtyard. Without wasting words, he placed the treasure map Shen Yushu had drawn right in front of it, pointed at the map, and then revealed a cold smile.
Mighty General felt a chill rise from the bottom of its heart, every hair on its body standing on end. That feeling of being butchered and eaten was now stronger than ever!
Yet Mighty General dared not run. It was certain that if it fled, Wei Zhao had a hundred percent chance of catching it, and its fate would only be all the more gruesome!
So, trembling with fear, Mighty General looked toward the treasure map in Wei Zhao's hand. At a glance, it found something familiar about it, and it roughly understood what Wei Zhao meant.
It had to be admitted — this dog's intelligence was really quite high. Seeing that Mighty General understood his meaning, Wei Zhao said nothing more and simply sat there playing with the Luoyang shovel.
Mighty General was sweating even harder, terrified that if Wei Zhao took a dislike to something, one swing of the shovel and its head would be gone. It hurriedly rose and began searching and confirming around the courtyard. Naturally, to keep Wei Zhao from misunderstanding, it dared not walk too fast — what if Wei Zhao took it for trying to run off?
Mighty General's behavior left even Wei Zhao astonished. This dog was no simple creature! It really could understand what he meant? It even knew he was threatening it? Could it be a transmigrator?
Soon enough, Mighty General stopped at a certain spot, scratched at the earth with its paws, and then gave a bark at Wei Zhao.
Wei Zhao nodded. He had only been trying his luck at first, never expecting Mighty General to be so capable — found already, and so quickly?
Wei Zhao set to digging with the Luoyang shovel in his hand. Before long there came a crisp *clink*, and Wei Zhao was somewhat taken aback — found this easily?
Nodding in satisfaction at Mighty General, he signaled that it could go back, and dug out the treasure chest. The chest was covered in rust; though one could tell it was a fine iron box, the years had been far too many, and it had corroded beyond recognition. A small lock still hung on it, but it had rusted through and snapped apart, no more than an empty formality.
When had this been buried? Could it have been Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu who buried it? Thinking of that treasure map, it did seem possible.
Wei Zhao opened the chest with a touch of speechlessness. Had the lock on the chest been intact, naturally he would not have broken it; but now that the small lock had snapped, he simply took the opportunity to open the chest.
Inside the chest was an oil-paper package. Though the outside of the chest was rust-covered, and even the little lock on top had corroded and broken, the interior was well made — waterproof layers, rubber padding, and all the rest complete. After so many years, it was only somewhat damp, and the oil paper inside showed not a trace of damage.
It seemed this chest must have cost no small sum, though for two young ladies it hardly amounted to anything.
Wei Zhao took out the oil-paper package and casually unwrapped it, only to find layer upon layer of tight wrapping within — not just oil paper, but plastic sheeting as well.
When he opened these outer wrappings, inside were two things like little sachets. Wei Zhao was rather surprised — this was the so-called treasure?
Just as Wei Zhao was about to tear open one of the little sachets, he suddenly heard a scream from behind him, so startling that he nearly flung the sachet from his hand!
He had barely turned his head when he saw Gu Mengyao running toward him wrapped in a bath towel, its hem fluttering in the wind, a pair of long legs smooth as jade now hidden, now revealed. Though he could not see very clearly, Wei Zhao could not help but swallow a mouthful of saliva...
Gu Mengyao had a tall, well-proportioned figure. Though not as full-figured as Shen Yushu, her shape was still one in a hundred. Wei Zhao would not go out of his way to peep at the young lady, but when it was delivered right before his eyes, a look did no harm.
Gu Mengyao suddenly realized where Wei Zhao's gaze was directed, and her face flushed at once. She snatched the sachet from his hand and cursed resentfully: "Shameless!"
Then she turned and went quickly back into the villa. This time, though, she dared not run — fast as she walked, she still moved in small, shuffling steps.
Wei Zhao gave a bitter smile. That was that — he had left a bad impression on the young lady. But heaven and earth bear witness, it was she who had run so fast and let him see; it was not as though he had gone looking on purpose!
He slunk back into the living room in low spirits, only to find that Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu had already gone upstairs. Wei Zhao was somewhat speechless. He had meant well and done badly? He helped them dig for treasure, and they called him shameless... Ai, peeping was no easy job either!
After a while, Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu came down from upstairs. By then the two of them had changed into proper, fully covering pajamas, so Wei Zhao could see no spring scenery at all.
Still, Wei Zhao felt somewhat wronged. Sometimes Gu Mengyao even wore shorts — didn't that expose more? Just now he had only found that hazy sense a little exciting; in truth he had seen nothing at all!
Seeing that Gu Mengyao wore a face that said she was about to deliver a critique, Wei Zhao hurriedly sat up straight, put on an air of having nothing to do with any of it, and made ready to watch television.
"Ahem, ahem!" Seeing that this creature showed not the slightest awareness of having done wrong, Gu Mengyao grew even more furious. She coughed twice and glared at Wei Zhao.
"Oh, it's the young lady. Is something the matter?" Only then did Wei Zhao pretend to have just noticed Gu Mengyao coming downstairs. He raised his head and looked at her cautiously.
What could he do? It was his own quick eyes that had stolen a look at someone.
"Brother Jianpai, Sister Yaoyao is going to criticize you — you'd better be careful!" Shen Yushu winked at Wei Zhao.
Yet this solemn atmosphere, stirred up by Shen Yushu, vanished without a trace. Gu Mengyao was about to explode with anger. Shen Yushu had come purely to make trouble; the girl was most likely sweet on Wei Zhao in her heart and was helping him out of a tight spot! But this creature Wei Zhao really was shameless, and not warning him was simply not an option.
So Gu Mengyao pretended not to have heard Shen Yushu's words and glared sternly at Wei Zhao. "Wei Zhao, do you know how a follower ought to behave?"
"Uh... I know. Don't look at what you shouldn't look at..." Wei Zhao nodded.
"Then why did you still look?" Gu Mengyao gave a humph, thinking to herself, you knew, and yet you still went and looked? Doing it on purpose, weren't you?
