Chapter 424 — Feng Xiaoxiao Wants Revenge

The Blossom Guardian

Never in all her life had she been caught in anything so awkward, and this time she had actually come off worst at Wei Zhao's hands.

But to her surprise, when she returned to the classroom Wei Zhao was nowhere to be seen, which came as quite a relief.

"Hey... pretty girl, you know my boss?" Kang Xiaofeng turned around. He was rather curious about Feng Xiaoxiao's identity. She had clearly come for Wei Zhao, yet he did not feel it right to ask Wei Zhao about it directly. Now that Wei Zhao was not in the classroom, this was the perfect chance to ask her himself.

"Wei Zhao is your boss?" Feng Xiaoxiao had also been looking for someone close to Wei Zhao to learn about him from the side.

"Yeah, I'm his underling!" Kang Xiaofeng said smugly, as though being Wei Zhao's underling were a great honor.

"Oh..." Feng Xiaoxiao's eyes darted about slyly as a scheme took shape in her mind. She said to Kang Xiaofeng, "Let me tell you a secret, but you mustn't tell anyone, all right? Including your boss, Wei Zhao."

"This..." Kang Xiaofeng hesitated at once. He wanted to hear what this so-called secret of hers was, but keeping it from Wei Zhao did not sit well with him.

"If you don't agree, I won't say it." Seeing his hesitation, Feng Xiaoxiao immediately tossed out a weighty bargaining chip: "It's about why I came looking for your boss..."

Sure enough, Kang Xiaofeng's interest was instantly piqued. He scratched his ear and fidgeted, wavering for a long while: "Then... then go on. I just won't tell the boss!"

"You absolutely mustn't say a word, or I'll be so embarrassed!" Feng Xiaoxiao looked at Kang Xiaofeng and put on a pitiful expression.

"Don't worry, my word is my bond. I guarantee I won't tell the boss!" Kang Xiaofeng thumped his chest in pledge. But he was no fool: he had promised Feng Xiaoxiao not to tell Wei Zhao, yet he had said nothing about not telling Tang Zhi. When the time came, he would simply tell Tang Zhi, and Tang Zhi would pass it on to Wei Zhao—nothing to do with him then.

"Actually... I like Wei Zhao. I transferred here just for him!" Feng Xiaoxiao said to Kang Xiaofeng in a small voice, her face flushed.

"What!?" Kang Xiaofeng's eyes went wide. "You... you have a crush on my boss?"

"Mm..." Feng Xiaoxiao nodded. "You absolutely mustn't breathe a word of this..."

"This... don't worry, I promised..." Kang Xiaofeng was now in a bit of a bind too. This really was not something easy to tell Tang Zhi; spreading it around would make it sound like idle gossip.

"Hey, could you tell me about Wei Zhao? I'd like to know him a little better..." In Feng Xiaoxiao's view, whatever Zou Ruoming and Zhong Yongliang had told her was secondhand at best. Only Kang Xiaofeng, who was in contact with Wei Zhao every day, could speak with real credibility.

"But you know the boss already has a girlfriend. Your chances are pretty slim..." Kang Xiaofeng sighed, secretly marveling at the boss's good fortune—every girl who liked him was so pretty and sweet.

"That's all right, I don't mind. I don't care about any title. I just hope to stay quietly by his side. I won't compete for anything," Feng Xiaoxiao said with a shake of her head, looking utterly forlorn and delicate.

"Huh?!" Kang Xiaofeng was struck dumb. Were there still girls like this these days? By any measure, Feng Xiaoxiao's qualifications were far from poor—she could have any boyfriend she wanted. And yet she was willing to be with Wei Zhao without even caring about her status!

The boss was outstanding, true, but Kang Xiaofeng could not help feeling envious all the same, and a little sorry for Feng Xiaoxiao too: "So you mean you want to stay quietly by his side, only giving, never asking for anything in return?"

"Mm..." Feng Xiaoxiao nodded.

"The boss is here... we'll talk next time..." Kang Xiaofeng looked up and saw Wei Zhao walking into the classroom. He hurriedly shut his mouth.

Wei Zhao drove Tang Zhi back to school. There had been no traffic jam along the way, but they were still a little late, and it was only after the first afternoon class had ended that Wei Zhao walked into the school. When afternoon classes began, what astonished Wei Zhao was that Feng Xiaoxiao, now changed into a fresh set of clothes, seemed to have completely forgotten about the incident in the restroom at noon. She did not give him any trouble, and she did not even bring it up!

What Wei Zhao found even more unbelievable was that the whole afternoon passed in perfect quiet. Feng Xiaoxiao said nothing more to him.

What struck Wei Zhao as odd was that the way Kang Xiaofeng looked at him was somewhat strange.

It wasn't that Feng Xiaoxiao didn't want to say anything—she simply hadn't yet found a way to deal with Wei Zhao! She was not about to let him off so easily. Having a head full of piss poured over her was nothing short of the greatest humiliation of her life; she had never been so disgraced in all her days!

But for the moment, Feng Xiaoxiao could not find an opening to teach Wei Zhao a lesson. For one thing, she wanted him to teach her how to drive, so she could not offend him too deeply.

Take that brain-dead suggestion of Zou Ruoming's—there was no way she could accept it. If anything happened to Tang Zhi, Wei Zhao would become her mortal enemy in earnest, and that would defeat her original purpose.

The best outcome would be for Wei Zhao to be taught a lesson without suffering any great loss—just a good humiliation, disgraced the way she had been at noon...

As the end of the school day approached, the homeroom teacher, Teacher Liu, came into the classroom and stepped up to the podium: "Everyone quiet down, I have an announcement! Tomorrow, our graduating class will hold a tree-planting activity. There's an empty plot behind the school—it's where every graduating class plants their trees! We're about to graduate and scatter to the four winds; to leave a little memento at our alma mater, you can each plant a tree in that plot. Years from now, when you return to the school, it will mean something rather special!"

Teacher Liu's words drew a round of applause from the students present. Dreary senior-year life was nothing but reading, doing problems, and taking tests day after day; now that an activity like this had come along, everyone naturally welcomed it with open arms.

"There's no restriction on the type of sapling. The flower-and-bird market not far from school sells them, from a few yuan to a few hundred—it depends on each person's financial situation. Those who are really hard up can get a few-yuan sapling subsidized from the class fund," Teacher Liu said. Though there were no poor students in his class, by convention he still had to say it.

Everyone voiced their support. Leaving a little memento at their alma mater before graduation was what most of the students had in mind. After all, they would soon be leaving; years later, returning to the school and seeing the saplings they had planted with their own hands grown tall would stir a quite extraordinary feeling.

"Brother Liang, I think this is a good opportunity!" After hearing Teacher Liu's words, Gao Xiaofu suggested to Zhong Yongliang.
