Chapter 438 — The IV Drip

The Blossom Guardian

Zhong Yongliang wiped the sweat from his forehead and felt power surge through his whole body. He was no longer tired at all.

He was still lost in his fantasy when Shen Yushu came over and looked at him with a grin. "Little Liangzi, Yaoyao asked me to ask you — are you tired?"

"Tired? We've barely even started! I'm not tired one bit! Pits like this — I could dig eight or ten of them in one go without breaking a sweat!" Zhong Yongliang declared.

"Oh, wonderful! Yaoyao says she likes strong boys who are always willing to help others. Hurry up and go dig pits for someone else!" Shen Yushu said.

"What?" Zhong Yongliang nearly toppled headfirst into the pit at her words. Go dig for someone else too? But he had already said it out loud — if he took it back now, wouldn't that be slapping his own face? There was nothing for it. Zhong Yongliang could only nod, thoroughly deflated. "Off I go to do good deeds..."

"Hee hee, I've finally gotten rid of this fool. Yaoyao, you can come over now — let's start planting!" Shen Yushu waved Gu Mengyao over.

"Xiaoshu, I really wonder — how are you so silly sometimes, and yet so clever at others? Tell me, is it all an act?" Gu Mengyao was utterly speechless at her best friend.

"Oh, no, that's not it. When I'm with you, Yaoyao, I turn into a little kid..." Shen Yushu caught Gu Mengyao by the arm. "I'm really not silly..."

"Fine, fine, you're not silly. I believe you." Gu Mengyao shook her head and decided not to dwell on it. She picked up a sapling and got ready to plant. A while later, when Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu had finished planting the saplings and were about to head back to the classroom to rest, several workers came running over carrying a grotesquely shaped sapling, with Zhong Yongliang directing them from the front. By now Zhong Yongliang was so exhausted that his arms and legs had gone weak, but to show off his strength in front of Gu Mengyao, he had no choice but to pretend everything was fine and wave his arms about. "Careful, all of you! This sapling is imported from overseas — don't damage it..."

"Yaoyao, look! That silly thing you talked about — someone's actually gone and done it!" Shen Yushu pointed excitedly at Zhong Yongliang's Eskimo tree. "Look, that tree's got an IV drip too!"

"..." Gu Mengyao was somewhat at a loss for words. Was Zhong Yongliang really this foolish? He had actually brought in a tree on an IV drip — and the moment he stopped the drip, the tree would probably die. "Let's go back to the classroom. Don't pay him any attention."

"Okay..." Shen Yushu still wanted to watch the fun, but she guessed it would be a while before Zhong Yongliang had his "fire trees and silver blossoms lighting up the night" ready. It would be no loss to come back out once he had it set up.

But just as Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu were about to leave, Zhong Yongliang finally could not hold out any longer and pitched headfirst onto the ground... He truly could not keep going. All that digging had left his legs weak and trembling, and now it was nearly noon and he had not eaten a thing. His stomach was growling with hunger — how could he possibly hold on?

"Yaoyao, Zhong Yongliang looks like he's fainted!" Shen Yushu wanted to go over and see the excitement.

"Let him be. Someone will deal with it." Gu Mengyao had no intention of caring whether Zhong Yongliang lived or died.

"Just one look, and we'll come right back. Please?" Missing out on a spectacle was simply not in Shen Yushu's nature.

"Fine, then. One look from a distance." Gu Mengyao had no choice but to nod in agreement.

Shen Yushu darted over, quick as a flash. Gao Xiaofu was just then frantically trying to haul Zhong Yongliang up. "Brother Liang, Brother Liang, what's wrong?"

"Let me have a look!" Shen Yushu ran over and bent down to examine Zhong Yongliang.

"This..." Gao Xiaofu did not know whether he should let Shen Yushu look. But then he thought: even Zhong Yongliang did not dare offend Shen Yushu, so how could he? He stepped aside and let her through.

"Oh, I know! He must be too weak. Just give him some nutrient solution!" Shen Yushu's little eyes darted back and forth, and she casually yanked the IV needle out of the Eskimo tree beside Zhong Yongliang and jabbed it straight into his rear end... Everyone watching nearby gaped. That nutrient solution for plants — you could use it on a person too? Gao Xiaofu's face went pale, and he nearly had a heart attack... Surely she hadn't stabbed Zhong Yongliang to death?

"Mmm..." The pain jolted Zhong Yongliang awake in an instant! A needle meant for a tree IV — how thick was that thing? Stuck into his backside, it hurt like the devil.

"See? He's awake, isn't he?" Shen Yushu said smugly. "I'm a miracle doctor!"

"..." Everyone nearly keeled over at her words. You call that a miracle doctor? And yet... Zhong Yongliang really had woken up.

Of course Shen Yushu was no fool — she was not about to commit robbery and murder in front of so many people. There was plenty of flesh on the backside, so the needle could not do much harm; at most it stung a little. "There, no need to thank me. I'm off!" Shen Yushu turned and ran off... But Zhong Yongliang turned his head for a look at the top-grade giant needle sticking out of his rear, and was so frightened that he fainted dead away again. "What do we do? He's fainted again. Should we pull the needle out and stick it in one more time?" Gao Xiaofu looked at the unconscious Zhong Yongliang, utterly at a loss. "Xiaoshu, how could you go stabbing people like that? What if you'd killed him?" Gu Mengyao had been badly startled by Shen Yushu's behavior.

"Hee hee, I wouldn't dare. I picked a spot where the flesh is nice and thick on purpose," Shen Yushu said.

"..." Gu Mengyao did not know what to say. Her best friend really was a little too ruthless... Kang Jinglong made phone calls to several pet shops, but none of them had a purebred German Shepherd. They did have dogs of mixed bloodline, but when Kang Jinglong took out the dog dung and compared it, there was still a considerable difference.

So Kang Jinglong decided he still had to get a purebred German Shepherd. He asked around and learned that purebreds had to be ordered, and the ordering period was unclear, because this was a rather valuable breed; generally, only after a buyer appeared would the pet shop contact the source of supply.

Kang Jinglong was anxious and naturally could not wait for them to place an order. He could only use his connections to inquire among the celebrities of East Sea whether anyone kept a German Shepherd, and after making inquiries, he actually turned up some information!

The owner of a large hotel in East Sea City just happened to have a German Shepherd, and as it happened, this owner was actually a friend of Grandpa's. On the day of Grandpa's birthday banquet, this hotel owner had even come to offer congratulations!

So Kang Jinglong told Grandpa the news, hoping Grandpa would step forward and borrow or buy the Shepherd from the hotel owner.
