Chapter 593 — The War Begins Again

The Blossom Guardian

"Xiao Shu! There are no roast chicken wings here!" Gu Mengyao glared at her, then turned to Fatso Lai. "Sorry to trouble you!"

At this moment, Gu Mengyao brought out the poise of a true lady from a distinguished family.

"We are the same — whatever is easy will do just fine," Tang Zhi said politely to Fatso Lai as well.

"All right, I'll have my wife cook some noodles!" Fatso Lai let out a sigh of relief. He had been genuinely worried these young ladies would turn up their noses at simple fare.

In no time at all, Fatso Lai's wife had the noodles ready. Fatso Lai served them himself, one steaming bowl set before each of the girls.

Gu Mengyao, Shen Yushu, Tang Zhi, and Liu Xinlan were all famished, and at this moment even they called a truce, each lowering her head to eat. Gu Mengyao and Tang Zhi ate with a certain refinement, while Shen Yushu and Liu Xinlan couldn't have cared less — they slurped away happily, savoring every mouthful.

Fatso Lai was a fixture at business banquets, where one could never truly fill one's stomach, so he always had a bite to eat before bed after coming home. Noodles were the most convenient solution, and over the years his wife had perfected the art, producing noodles that tasted better than anything you could buy outside.

After clearing away the bowls, the girls resumed glaring daggers at one another, the air between them thick with gunpowder...

Sated and refreshed, the war began in earnest.

Gu Mengyao had been worrying over Wei Zhao's prolonged silence, and her anxiety only deepened. She couldn't help but reproach: "Wei Zhao went out for revenge — why didn't you stop him? If you had stopped him, he wouldn't have gotten hurt!"

"How could I have stopped him? He went to avenge me — that only proves he loves me, that he cares about me. I should be happy about it!" Tang Zhi said. "Besides, why didn't he go get hurt for you instead?"

"Who says he hasn't gotten hurt for me? He even took a bullet for me — isn't that right, Xiao Shu?" What Gu Mengyao was referring to was the bank robbery, though the bullet had not been blocked for her — it had been taken for Guan Xin.

"Oh, when Brother Arrow saved me, he jumped into the sea right along with me, and we fought a shark together!" Shen Yushu chimed in as well.

Fatso Lai sighed, pulled his wife to sit a good distance away. He didn't dare go to sleep either — quarreling was one thing, but he was genuinely terrified these women might come to blows!

"Old Lai, what kind of people are these?" By now, Fatso Lai's wife still hadn't worked out the relationships between them all. All she knew was that the injured man in the room was Wei Zhao — her husband's boss, a divine physician who had cured her father-in-law's illness.

The current Guan Doctor Pharmaceuticals had also been founded by Wei Zhao, so his wife knew he was a truly formidable figure, and she respected him as deeply as her husband did.

It was just that among the four girls inside the room, three were staggeringly beautiful, and every one of them claimed to have some relationship with Wei Zhao. This gave Fatso Lai's wife quite a headache.

"Well... I suppose all we can do is wait until the boss wakes up and sort it out then. I haven't the faintest idea what any of these girls are to him..." Fatso Lai said with a bitter smile. "We'd best just watch from the sidelines — as long as they don't start fighting, that'll have to do."

................

Wei Zhao had handed his phone to Fatso Lai, asking him to help explain things if Tang Zhi called. Then he locked himself in the room, threw himself onto the bed, and collapsed into unconsciousness!

The very next instant, Wei Zhao entered the jade pendant's space.

This was the first time Wei Zhao had gone head-to-head with a fighter of equal strength, and the collision had been utterly miserable. Thank heavens for the jade pendant's space — otherwise, he might very well have drawn his last breath this time.

"Phew..." Wei Zhao felt the energy elements around him repairing his organs at an almost inconceivable speed, and let out a long breath of relief.

The sensation was profoundly comfortable — like that exhilarating rush in the instant just before a breakthrough — and Wei Zhao couldn't help but groan with pleasure...

Since the time Feng Xiaoxiao had drained every last drop of his energy, this was only the second time Wei Zhao had sunk into such a deep sleep. He was utterly oblivious to the outside world.

Time slipped by, minute after minute. Wrapped in the pure energy of the jade pendant's space, Wei Zhao's damaged body recovered at a rapid pace. How long passed, he could not say—then, with a great and relieved cry, Wei Zhao rose to his feet!

Wei Zhao shifted his body left and right, scarcely able to believe it. Healed. Healed completely, just like that?

Wei Zhao knew well enough how grave his injuries had been. Even propped up by all the wondrous elixirs his grandfather possessed, he likely could not have risen from bed in under two or three months—and yet in this jade pendant's space his wounds had mended with such astonishing speed! A miracle, if ever there was one.

"Elder Jiao, I've recovered?" Wei Zhao asked, hardly daring to believe it.

"Recovered," Jiao Yazi said with a nod.

"The jade pendant's space can heal injuries too?" Wei Zhao asked, puzzled. When he had collapsed onto the bed, entering the jade pendant's space had been pure instinct; in truth, Wei Zhao had not known that slipping into it of his own accord after losing consciousness could also mend his wounds.

"Foolish boy—if your energy can heal others, naturally it can heal you as well." Elder Jiao rolled his eyes. "Could you try asking a question above kindergarten level?"

"All right, then that means if I slowly absorb energy out there—the true qi of the natural world—I could recover gradually as well?" Wei Zhao asked.

"In theory, yes," Jiao Yazi said. "But that, again, is a kindergarten-level question. The true qi outside is so thin that what you take in cannot keep pace with what your body burns through. You'd never last long enough to absorb that much energy—you'd be dead."

"So that's how it is..." Wei Zhao nodded. In that case, if that fellow called Uncle Zhu had no wondrous elixirs to rely on, he was likely a dead man. "Another question—why do I feel as though I'm a bit stronger than before? My level hasn't changed, but my strength seems greater?"

"Very good, that's progress—that's an elementary school-level question." Jiao Yazi's words left Wei Zhao somewhat abashed, but the old man did not wait for him to speak. "No breaking, no building—that is the principle. Your bones and your five organs were all shattered, then reforged and repaired by the pure energy of the space. Naturally, that leaves you far stronger than anything forged from the thin true qi of the natural world!"

Enlightenment struck Wei Zhao. So it all came down to the purity of the energy. It seemed this jade pendant's space was truly a wondrous thing.

"Injuries that severe, healed in such a short time—it's truly incredible!" Wei Zhao marveled.

"Short?" Jiao Yazi said flatly. "It's been nearly ten hours."

"What? Ten hours?" Wei Zhao started. By his own reckoning, only an hour or two had passed—he had never imagined so much time had gone by!

Which meant Tang Zhi must be worried sick by now!
