Chapter 614 — Yaoyao Wants to Assassinate Me
"What?" Tang Zhi, too, clapped a hand over her mouth in astonishment, finding it hard to believe. "Ate too much? Stuffed herself to death?"
"Yeah. Though with Shen Yushu, it's not exactly impossible." Wei Zhao gave a wry smile. "I'd better get going. Oh, right — I've already spoken with Director Qin at the hospital, so you two just stay there for now. Otherwise you'd have nowhere to go once you're discharged."
Director Qin knew Wei Zhao by now, and knew his ties to Guan Xuewen ran deep. So since Wei Zhao had asked, even if Tang Zhi and Tang Jucheng were fit to leave, they could still stay on at the hospital.
It wasn't as though Wei Zhao meant to skip out on the bill — he'd already put down a hefty deposit. There was no reason for Director Qin to chase them out.
At the mention of this, Mother Tang's face clouded with worry. Only that morning she had been discussing with Tang Jucheng whether they ought to buy a place first. The houses in the shantytown had all collapsed; they couldn't live there anymore. Luckily there hadn't been anything very valuable inside — the TV and the refrigerator had been bought when they married, over a decade ago, long since worn out; smashed was smashed. As for furniture, there was even less worth speaking of.
But since Wei Zhao had arranged for them to stay at the hospital for the time being, there was no need to rush into buying a house. Better to watch and learn the market first, at least, and not buy blindly.
Though Wei Zhao found the notion of Shen Yushu being stuffed to death rather absurd, he still drove quickly back to the villa district. The moment he walked in, he saw Shen Yushu sprawled on the sofa, moaning without pause, while Gu Mengyao stood to one side, holding her hand and trying to comfort her.
"Yaoyao, I really can't take it this time — why isn't Chewing Gum Guy here yet?" Shen Yushu asked, sobbing.
"Soon. That damned Wei Zhao, glued to Tang Zhi's side and doesn't want to leave? What's so great about Tang Zhi, anyway? She's nowhere near our Xiaoshu!" Gu Mengyao grumbled.
"Ahem..." Wei Zhao broke out in a sweat and gave a dry cough. It wasn't that Tang Zhi couldn't compare to Shen Yushu, but the crux was Shen Yushu's status — did Wei Zhao dare lay a hand on her? She was the young lady's best friend! How could anyone make that comparison?
Wei Zhao thought to himself: if you gave Shen Yushu to me as a wife, I'd keep her at my side every single day!
Gu Mengyao heard Wei Zhao's cough and instantly flushed with embarrassment. She turned, saw he was back, and said, "So you do know how to come back? Look, Xiaoshu's about to die — hurry up and save her!"
Wei Zhao glanced at Shen Yushu on the sofa, saw she wasn't dead yet, and breathed a sigh of relief. But at the sight of her swollen belly, he couldn't help frowning again — he had no idea whether her stomach might have ruptured from the distension.
"Chewing Gum Guy, you're finally back, wuwu..." Shen Yushu burst into tears. "I feel awful — Yaoyao was trying to assassinate me..."
"Nobody's trying to assassinate you. Are you hallucinating?" Wei Zhao turned and looked at Gu Mengyao in bewilderment. Why would Shen Yushu say Gu Mengyao was trying to kill her? Could Shen Yushu have eaten something toxic and started hallucinating?
Gu Mengyao's face reddened. "Just save her already, and stop asking so many questions."
"All right." Wei Zhao nodded, picked Shen Yushu up, flipped her over so her head hung down toward the floor, then said to Gu Mengyao, "Help me open her mouth. Don't let her close it."
"Oh, okay!" Gu Mengyao didn't dare dawdle; she hurriedly reached over and pried Shen Yushu's mouth open.
"Ahh, ahh..." Shen Yushu, thoroughly miserable, cried out despite herself. She thought: why are you and Chewing Gum Guy both trying to kill me? Now you're prying my mouth open — are you going to pull out my tongue? But she couldn't get the words out.
"What are you screaming for? Moaning like that!" Gu Mengyao thought Shen Yushu's cries sounded rather like a certain other kind of sound, and couldn't help glaring at her.
"Ahh, ahh, ahh..." With her mouth held open, Shen Yushu couldn't speak; apart from "ahh," she couldn't produce a single other syllable.
"Bear with it, it'll be over in a moment." Wei Zhao fetched a chopstick from the kitchen and gently probed at the back of Shen Yushu's throat.
"Ahh, ahh, ahh..." A wave of nausea seized Shen Yushu. At last, under Wei Zhao's ministrations, she retched with a loud "blargh" and threw up. Her lunch had barely been digested at all; it came straight out onto the floor — though she managed to get it all over Gu Mengyao's hands.
Yet at a moment like this, the young lady showed no disgust. Instead she looked at Shen Yushu with concern. "Xiaoshu, how do you feel?"
Once Shen Yushu started vomiting, there was no stopping her — she heaved and heaved, bringing up nearly everything in her stomach.
"Ugh, ugh, ugh, ugh, I feel awful, but much better..." Shen Yushu had only spoken after she had more or less finished throwing up.
"Good, good, good — you scared me half to death!" Gu Mengyao was still shaking with aftershock. What would she have done if Xiaoshu had actually stuffed herself to death?
"There was nothing wrong with you to begin with — you just ate too much." Wei Zhao shook his head. "If you can't eat that much, why did you eat it?"
"Sister Mengyao told me to..." Shen Yushu said aggrievedly. She had nearly died — who wouldn't feel wronged?
"Why on earth did you make her eat so much?" Wei Zhao was a little angry. This was no laughing matter. Thank goodness she was all right.
"I..." Gu Mengyao had not expected Wei Zhao to actually pull a long face and interrogate her. But she was in the wrong, and dared not talk back.
"Sister Mengyao didn't want you to bring food to Tang Zhi, so she made me eat it all..." Shen Yushu told the truth.
"..." Wei Zhao shook his head, momentarily speechless. It was roughly what he had guessed — these two girls were impossible.
"Xiaoshu, stop talking!" Gu Mengyao was a little embarrassed. "You're very weak — go back to your room and rest."
"Oh..." Prompted by Gu Mengyao's words, Shen Yushu did in fact feel her whole body go limp. So she said, "I can't walk, Sister Mengyao..."
Gu Mengyao wanted to get Shen Yushu upstairs, but couldn't carry her on her back. After a moment's hesitation, she could only say to Wei Zhao, "Wei Zhao, carry her upstairs on your back."
"Upstairs? I'm allowed to go up?" Wei Zhao pointed toward the upper floor. When he had first come, Gu Mengyao had told him very firmly that he was not permitted to go upstairs.
"This is an exception — I'm permitting it," Gu Mengyao said. "Just this once."
"There's General Weiwu." Wei Zhao glanced toward the head of the stairs, where the General was still squatting. He did not want Gu Mengyao to discover that he wasn't afraid of the General — otherwise, if anything ever went missing from upstairs, he would never be able to explain it away.
"You're not afraid of it — don't think I don't know." Gu Mengyao snorted. "Now hurry up and carry Xiaoshu upstairs!"
