Chapter 636 — You Caught Her?
"Oh? Is that so? I see." The tattooed man showed no reaction at all; he merely spoke in a flat, indifferent tone.
The hook-nosed man had no idea there was a boss above the tattooed man. He assumed the tattooed man was the top of the heap, and that was why he had offered Qiu Lingshan up to him.
After hanging up on the hook-nosed man, the tattooed man hurried over to An Liwen's side. "Wen-ge, the boys below caught a girl. Word is she's a looker, maybe even a virgin. Would you care to—"
"Oh?" An Liwen raised an eyebrow. His mood at the moment was foul beyond words — all he wanted was an outlet, any outlet, but he had none. Hearing that a girl had been caught downstairs, his interest sparked at once. "Bring her here, let me have a look."
The men under him might not have been of any great caliber, but they pulled in a hefty cut after every job, enough to get them into high-end nightclubs, where they had seen their share of pretty girls. So if they called something "dewy-fresh" and even dared phone him up specifically to offer it as tribute, it had to be a first-rate piece of goods.
An Liwen had been brooding over having nowhere to vent his frustrations, and now someone had delivered a vessel right to his door. It put him in remarkably good spirits.
The tattooed man sent a car to the hook-nosed man's transfer station, and Qiu Lingshan was soon brought to the headquarters and locked into the cellar they had built for themselves.
Beautiful beyond words — that was the tattooed man's first impression of Qiu Lingshan. Not only was her face lovely, her figure was scorching hot too, curving out where it should curve and perking up where it should perk. Top-tier, surely. And judging by his years of experience, this woman was almost certainly a virgin. That fit Wen-ge's standards for his women to a tee.
Beyond that, though, the tattooed man found Qiu Lingshan strangely familiar, as if he had seen her somewhere before — though for the moment he could not place her.
After locking Qiu Lingshan up, the tattooed man returned to An Liwen's side and said in a low voice, "Wen-ge, the girl's been delivered. She really is top-tier. Only — she looks a bit familiar, like I've seen her somewhere."
He was a cautious man who let no detail slip past him; otherwise he would not have lasted this long without trouble. After all, back when An Liwen's brother had been here, the tattooed man had already been the man in charge.
"Seen her somewhere? What do you mean?" An Liwen frowned. "Someone you knew before?"
"I don't think so. She rings a bell, but I can't place where I've seen her. Even if I did know her, she wouldn't be anyone close." The tattooed man shook his head. "I'm not a local. How would I have relatives in Binjia Village?"
"Is that so?" An Liwen hesitated a moment. "Turn on the cellar surveillance. I'll take a look myself."
"Yes, Wen-ge!" The tattooed man nodded and brought up the surveillance feed from the cellar. Monitors had been installed in An Liwen's room, and the cellar's interior could be seen from there in perfect clarity.
Since arriving in the cellar, Qiu Lingshan had not woken up either; she still feigned unconsciousness. In truth, she had already secretly scouted the place — there were several surveillance cameras in the cellar, so whatever she did here would be visible from outside. To deceive the enemy, she kept up the act of being unconscious.
This must be the headquarters of the kidney-harvesting ring, surely? she thought. I wonder whether Liu Wangli and the others outside have received the signal.
"Damn it, the tracker on Captain Song has lost its signal!" Liu Wangli stared tensely at the surveillance screen in the police unit and exclaimed in alarm.
Before setting out, Qiu Lingshan had carried a signal transmitter on her person, meaning that her location could be tracked on the unit's monitor — which would make it easy for them to strike straight at the enemy's lair.
But shortly after Qiu Lingshan was taken to the first transfer station, the signal had been lost. Had something gone wrong in between?
Liu Wangli's face was tight with tension, and so were the faces of everyone around him, all of them staring fixedly at the screen...
The tattooed man was no fool; having gone this long without incident, he naturally had his methods. Fearing that police infiltrators might come in carrying signal transmitters, he had installed jamming and shielding in the vehicles that picked people up, and all the more so throughout the headquarters. Apart from special landline phones, one could say there was no cell signal at all.
An Liwen's own phone, of course, was routed through call forwarding, so he could still receive calls.
The monitor screen flickered on, the surveillance camera's focus drew closer and closer, and at last An Liwen made out Qiu Lingshan's face. He let out a furious curse: "Fuck!"
"What is it, Wen-ge?" The tattooed man was stunned by An Liwen's reaction, at a loss as to why he had suddenly blown up like that. "Wen-ge, do you know her?"
"How could I not know her? Qiu Lingshan! Captain of the Criminal Investigation Unit at Songshan City Police Headquarters!" An Liwen's eyes went wide. "The very woman Chen Yuxuan's been chasing — and you went and dragged her in here?"
"Huh? You can't be serious? You brought the captain of the Criminal Investigation Unit in?" The tattooed man was dumbstruck. No wonder she had looked so familiar, he thought — she was the captain from the police station, a face that turned up on television all the time. He must have seen her before; it was only that Qiu Lingshan had taken over Yang Huaijun's post so recently that he had never paid her much mind. But this time the matter had blown up badly, and it would not be easy to bring things back under control. He had no idea how Brother Wen would deal with him — surely he would not have him killed?
At that thought, the tattooed man felt a chill of dread. He had seen An Liwen's ruthlessness for himself. An Liwen might look gentle and refined, but the tattooed man knew full well that he was a merciless man. An Liwen's elder brother had at least paid for his kidneys; An Liwen simply took what he wanted by force.
When it came to rivals in love, he would slice out a kidney without a second thought. Such savage methods were beyond what any ordinary man could bring himself to do. So the tattooed man's heart quaked with fear — would An Liwen finish him off to vent his fury? An Liwen had been in a foul mood all day to begin with, and to curry favor with him the tattooed man had meant to fetch him a pretty girl to toy with, never guessing that his good intentions would backfire and he would end up dragging the captain of the Criminal Investigation Unit in. Was he not just courting death?
At that thought, the tattooed man asked cautiously, a note of sorrow in his voice, "Brother Wen, I'm sorry — I've made a mess of things. If this really turns into trouble, I'll go out there and take the blame..."
