Chapter 708 — Not Done Playing Yet
"Wei Zhao, be careful!" Seeing Wei Zhao stride toward the men in black, Tang Zhi hurriedly called out a warning.
"Tang Zhi, you don't get Arrow Brand Brother at all — it's those bad guys who ought to be careful!" Shen Yushu said to Tang Zhi.
Tang Zhi pursed her lips, thinking to herself: How could I not understand Wei Zhao? I understand him perfectly well, thank you. How could those two-bit thugs possibly be a match for Wei Zhao? I was only worried about him, that's all.
"I was telling him to be careful not to hurt them too badly!" Tang Zhi said.
"Oh, so what if he does? We're acting in self-defense, doing a good deed. Besides, that fox Qiu Lingshan is terrified of Arrow Brand Brother anyway!" Shen Yushu said indifferently.
Over on his side, Li Diley's expression shifted. He hadn't expected these people to be so utterly unruffled under the circumstances. That left only two possibilities: first, that ignorance made them fearless — they were all fools; or second, that they were absolutely confident they could walk out of here.
Previously, Li Diley had assumed the first possibility, and found it rather amusing. But now he was leaning toward the second — because after hearing Li Cihua's name, Wei Zhao hadn't been the least bit afraid. He had actually come forward and declared that he wasn't planning to leave.
Of course, that wasn't the main thing. The main thing was that this girl Shen Yushu had actually mentioned Qiu Lingshan — and had the nerve to call her a fox. Li Diley was no stranger to the name Qiu Lingshan; she was the captain of the city police's criminal investigation unit! How could people who moved in the underworld like them not have heard of her?
Could it be that these people had ties to Qiu Lingshan too? At that thought, Li Diley grew uneasy. After a moment's hesitation, he decided he'd better sound out their background first: "Gentlemen, if you dare come here, I daresay you've got something to fall back on. Speak up — let's not flood the Dragon King's temple with our own floodwaters."
Wei Zhao could tell at once that this was Li Diley's roundabout way of backing down. The moment he heard Qiu Lingshan's name, he had changed his tune. A man like Li Diley, background or no background, was someone Qiu Lingshan could deal with. Getting him thrown straight into prison would be difficult, admittedly, but hounding him every other day would be punishment enough.
Could a man like Li Diley possibly have no dirt on him at all? Obviously not.
But Wei Zhao said nothing. Ever since he'd learned of Li Diley's connection to Li Cihua, he had already decided this man's fate. He was destined to become Wei Zhao's test subject — a probe against Li Cihua, or rather against the poisoner at Young Master Bing's side.
"Since you gentlemen won't talk, there's nothing more I can do. Whether or not you have backing, in my restaurant, you owe me an explanation. Take him!" Li Diley said flatly. He wasn't afraid of trouble either — so what if they knew Qiu Lingshan? As long as he didn't touch the girls, that was the limit. Roughing up the young man would vent his spleen and win back some face. Even if Qiu Lingshan got wind of it, she wouldn't do anything to him — at most he'd pay a little money to settle it.
The men in black eyed Wei Zhao warily, but they weren't especially afraid. After all, their side had an overwhelming advantage in numbers, and on Wei Zhao's side, counting it up, the only one who could fight was Wei Zhao himself.
As for Shen Yushu, they didn't take her seriously at all — hers had been a sneak attack, catching them off guard. She had no real fighting ability.
All their eyes were fixed on Wei Zhao. The instant he drew close, they moved! They didn't overestimate themselves either; they came at him in a pack, aiming to take him down in one go. Their faces had been thoroughly humiliated before — they were going to win them back.
Their plan was sound enough. They moved, and Wei Zhao moved too — only Wei Zhao's speed far outstripped theirs. Before they could even see what was happening, they felt a stab of pain in the neck, a blackness before their eyes, and then they knew nothing at all.
"Oh, Arrow Brand Brother is amazing! But could you leave one for me? I'm not done playing yet!" Shen Yushu shrieked excitedly.
"You're a little late to say that..." Wei Zhao had just knocked out the last man in black, who was toppling toward the floor — but Wei Zhao caught him with a hand and hauled him back, gave him a couple of quick presses and manipulations, then pushed him toward Shen Yushu: "No matter, though. I've woken him up again."
"Oh!!" Shen Yushu gazed at Wei Zhao with starry-eyed admiration. How incredible — knocking a man out and then waking him up again? Eager to try, Shen Yushu watched the man in black stagger toward her and readied her foot.
The man's face was filled with terror, his eyes all panic — yet he had not a shred of strength to resist. Pushed by Wei Zhao, he came stumbling toward Shen Yushu as if by sheer momentum. He didn't know what was wrong with him. Why couldn't he control his own body?
In fact, Wei Zhao had indeed done something to him. Otherwise Wei Zhao would never have let a dangerous character get anywhere near Shen Yushu and the others. But now the man in black was like a puppet, utterly incapable of putting up a fight.
And it wasn't just the man in black — at this moment, Li Diley's eyes too were full of shock and fear!
Before, he had been afraid because Wei Zhao had instantly felled all his men. Now he was afraid because Wei Zhao had actually knocked his man out — and then woken him up again?!
But what happened next was even more terrifying. Before Li Diley's eyes, the last of his men still standing was kicked square in the groin by Shen Yushu. His eyes rolled back, foam spilled from his mouth, and he collapsed unconscious on the floor...
The diners in the Western restaurant had heard the sounds of fighting from the lobby well enough, but who in their right mind would dare come out at a time like this? All of them, afraid of being caught in the crossfire, had locked their doors tight. And the couples who had been passing by the Western restaurant on their way to a meal took one look at the situation in the lobby and turned on their heels.
Li Dilei watched Wei Zhao closing in on him step by step, and terror filled him! This man truly had nothing to fear! He had miscalculated!
"Arrow Brand Brother, how about letting me have a kick at this one too?" Shen Yushu had gotten hooked on kicking — she found kicking bad men an utterly delightful business.
Li Dilei's face twitched twice. Let you have a kick? So I can be left without heirs to carry on my name?
"Brother, let's talk this over — a friendly chat, everyone prospers together!" Li Dilei was afraid Wei Zhao would come over and hand him off to Shen Yushu as well — wouldn't that be a death sentence? He knew he was no match for Wei Zhao; if all those subordinates of his hadn't been able to best Wei Zhao, he was hardly stronger than any of them.
Wei Zhao ignored him, casually fishing the silver needles from his pocket. With a careless flick of his right hand, a dozen or so silver needles flew straight out and embedded themselves in Li Dilei's body.
