Chapter 718 — Make Him Wish He Were Dead
"Are you an idiot?" Wei Zhao's patience frayed at once at Li Cihua's words. "If I were counting what's between us, he'd already be dead. You think he'd still be standing there waiting for you to find him? Besides, I did him because he crossed me."
Li Cihua was struck mute on the spot. There was no denying it: Wei Zhao's words were infuriating.
"Then... can you spare him?" Li Cihua coughed twice and said, somewhat awkwardly.
"He's not dead, is he? What's there to spare? If he were dead, you wouldn't be calling me." Wei Zhao said. "Besides, haven't you got a fine hand at your side? A man who can brew Seven-Herb Life-Severing Powder, and he can't clear up a little thing like this? All right, I'm very busy — a beauty needs me to drive her. Bye."
Without waiting for Li Cihua to say another word, Wei Zhao hung up.
Li Cihua stared at the phone, the call cut off, thoroughly glum. Very busy, are you? Who do you think you are, a cowboy? But he dared not say it aloud; he had to keep calling Wei Zhao.
"Oh, Arrow-Brand Bro, is it that Landmine fellow? Is he dead?" Shen Yushu asked once Wei Zhao finished his call.
"Doesn't seem dead yet. Dying, maybe?" Wei Zhao had no idea how many silver needles Li Cihua had pulled.
"Ugh, if he dies it's no fun. Not entertaining at all." Shen Yushu shook her head. "Arrow-Brand Bro, could you make him wish he were dead?"
"I could, probably," Wei Zhao said. "But I can't see him now, and I can't be bothered to bring him back to life."
"Oh, I bet that Li Cihua will call again. When he does, why don't you make his cousin wish he were dead?" Shen Yushu suggested.
No sooner had she spoken than Wei Zhao's phone rang again.
"Hello? Didn't I tell you I'm busy? Can't you understand plain speech?" Wei Zhao was not the least bit polite to Li Cihua.
"Wei Zhao, I'm at my wit's end — that's the only reason I'm calling you. I think you understand that much!" Afraid Wei Zhao would hang up again, Li Cihua rushed it all out in one breath. "Keep my cousin alive, and name your price — whatever you want, just say it."
Wei Zhao was taken aback. So it seemed the fine hand beside Zhao Qibing was not so fine after all — at the very least, not as capable as himself.
"Uncle Tang's leg is broken. You can pay for the medical expenses." Wei Zhao meant to take Shen Yushu's advice and turn Li Dilei into a man who wished he were dead. But wishing he were dead still beat being dead, didn't it? So Wei Zhao had no intention of working for free — Li Cihua would have to pay a price.
"No problem. I'll put up three—" Li Cihua was about to say three hundred thousand when Wei Zhao cut him off.
"Three million. I'll give you an account number. If I don't see the money before dark, don't bother sending it — use it instead to buy your cousin a decent coffin and a burial plot." Wei Zhao figured that a house for Tang Zhi's family would cost one or two million at least, so asking three million was hardly excessive.
A stroll out the door, a run-in with some poor fool, and the money for a house had fallen into his lap.
"Fine!" Li Cihua was a man who did great things. When he heard three million, it stung a little — money was exactly what he needed most right now — but for his cousin's life, three million was truly not much!
Wei Zhao had little cash on hand at the moment. The hundred million he had wrung from Liu Tianyi, along with the proceeds from the auction, had basically all gone into the pharmaceutical company — expanding the scale, expanding production, the initial outlay was bound to be considerable. So to this day, though Wei Zhao commanded a vast estate, there was little money in his pocket.
Wei Zhao texted Li Cihua the bank card number Tang's mother had opened earlier, then sat back and waited for the money.
Tang Zhi wanted to say something, but with Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu both present, she could hardly speak up, and so she let Wei Zhao do as he pleased. Still, she consoled herself: it was compensation for her father's medical expenses, so she felt no burden keeping it. Otherwise, taking yet another sum of Wei Zhao's money would only deepen her debt to him...
"Oh, Arrow-Brand Bro, weren't you going to make him wish he were dead? Why save him?" Shen Yushu asked.
"Isn't making him wish he were dead just saving his life?" Wei Zhao smiled.
"Hahahaha…" Shen Yushu burst into delighted laughter. "Brother Arrowhead, you're so wicked! Just like me!"
"Not as wicked as you." Wei Zhao shrugged. When it came to messing with people, Shen Yushu outdid him by a mile.
Tang Zhi and Gu Mengyao could barely keep straight faces either. The young miss had little notion of money, but she was still rather startled that Wei Zhao had talked three million out of the man the moment he opened his mouth. So Wei Zhao was that formidable? He could conjure up that much money just like that?
And from his expression, he did not seem to regard the money as anything at all. Gu Mengyao grew a little nervous. She herself was forever threatening to dock his wages. In his eyes, must that seem rather ridiculous?
Still, Gu Mengyao grew more and more puzzled as to why Wei Zhao had come to her side to serve as a lackey. With his skills and his methods, there was no need at all for him to work for her for a salary of thirty thousand… Where on earth had Daddy found such a capable man?
"Yaoyao, Xiaoshu, where are you headed now?" Wei Zhao turned and asked. "Tang Zhi and I are going to Night Market Street to buy a few things."
"We'll come too, right, Sister Yaoyao?" Shen Yushu winked at Gu Mengyao.
"We…" Gu Mengyao was rather tempted to go.
"I want fried mushrooms! Sister Yaoyao, keep me company, would you?" Shen Yushu took Gu Mengyao's hand.
"All right, all right, we'll go together then." Gu Mengyao nodded.
Tang Zhi pursed her lips, a little displeased. How was it that she and Wei Zhao were going on a date, and these two had to tag along? But Tang Zhi could say nothing about it. The young miss had just treated them all; was she to turn around and shoo them off? That would be rather ungracious.
Wei Zhao said nothing more either. If the young miss wanted to come, let her come. He started the car and drove off in the direction of Night Market Street.
Along the way, Tang Zhi received a phone call. It was from her mother.
"Mom? Is something the matter?" Tang Zhi did not know why her mother would call at such a time. Did she not know that Tang Zhi had gone out with Wei Zhao? Usually, when she and Wei Zhao were on a date, her mother rarely disturbed them.
"Yun'er, I just got a text message on my phone saying three million has been deposited? What's going on? It's not a scam message, is it?" Tang's mother did not quite understand mobile banking. Earlier, when Wei Zhao's card had been crushed underneath the house, she and Wei Zhao had gone to the bank together to open a new one, this time under her name. At the time, opening mobile banking came with a free jug of soybean oil, and given Tang's mother's fondness for a bargain, she had naturally signed up on the spot.
