Chapter 747 — Determined to See Wei Zhao

The Blossom Guardian

"Actually, the husband-and-wife thieves didn't reveal anyone else's name at first, but we confiscated a work journal from them, and it contains some leads." Chen Yuxuan smiled as he handed Liu Bojia a photocopy.

Liu Bojia glanced at the photocopy of the work journal Chen Yuxuan had handed him, and his face changed instantly!

Written on the photocopy, unmistakably, was Liu Bojia's own name—along with a detailed account of how he had surveyed tombs together with the grave-robbing gang...

Those words alone, of course, were hardly ironclad evidence. But the critical point was that Liu Bojia did not know the husband-and-wife thieves had both been gunned down during their resistance. As long as the police questioned them about Liu Bojia, there was every reason to believe the pair would talk!

At this moment, Liu Bojia decided to stop hiding anything. There was no point concealing the truth any longer—he might as well confess everything!

"What the journal says is correct. That mad killer from before was most likely brought in by the Hongta tomb-raiding crew, to silence me..." Liu Bojia sighed.

"The Hongta tomb-raiding crew? So this tomb was discovered jointly by you, the Hongta crew, and the husband-and-wife thieves?" Chen Yuxuan asked.

"It shouldn't be said that we discovered it together. Rather, three grave-robbing gangs found it—the Hongta crew, the husband-and-wife thieves, and Old Hei..." Liu Bojia shook his head. "I was more of an expert consultant. Since I had some knowledge of the mechanisms and hidden passages inside tombs, the Hongta crew always brought me along on their operations, and they'd give me a share of the spoils each time. You could say it was a cooperative arrangement..."

"Why did they want to kill you this time?" Chen Yuxuan asked.

"I've surveyed this tomb. The dangers inside are extraordinary, and I'm not at all confident I could open it. But from years of experience, where great danger lies, great treasure follows. I planned to go back, study carefully, go through the reference materials, and then work out a way to crack it..." Liu Bojia said.

"And that has nothing to do with wanting to silence you?" Chen Yuxuan frowned.

"The Hongta crew thought I wanted to keep the treasure for myself. And honestly, I did have that idea..." Liu Bojia smiled ruefully. "We'd worked together for so many years—who doesn't know whom? He read my mind. Afraid I'd leak word of it, or try to claim the tomb's treasure for myself, he decided to kill me to keep me quiet..."

"Write up everything you know—the tomb's location and how to crack its traps—and give it to us," Chen Yuxuan said.

"You want to... enter the tomb?" Liu Bojia was stunned. "Impossible. Without a professional among you, if you go in, I'm afraid you'll never come out..."

"That's not for you to worry about." Qiu Lingshan cut him off. "You just need to cooperate with the police. Your attitude will ultimately determine your sentence."

"All right..." Liu Bojia offered no further objections and nodded.

Having chosen to cooperate, he naturally would. He understood that, given what he had done, even if he escaped the death penalty, he was looking at life imprisonment; and even if he received a fixed term, he was already in his forties—whether he'd ever walk out of prison in his lifetime was anyone's guess.

Before going to prison, there were still some debts to settle. Liu Bojia was a grave robber, but he was also a man who repaid his debts of gratitude.

"The people who saved me from that mad killer last time—were they your people?" Liu Bojia asked.

"Why do you ask?" Qiu Lingshan was slightly taken aback.

"My assets amount to about thirty million. I'll put up ten million as a reward for him..." Liu Bojia said. "To thank him for saving my life."

"Your money is ill-gotten. It will be confiscated," Qiu Lingshan said coolly.

"That's not true. Every yuan I have came from legitimate sources—writing for magazines, serving as a guide and expert for various professional exploration organizations. There's a ledger in my study with every sum recorded, item by item." Liu Bojia smiled. "As for the antiques I obtained from tomb raiding, I haven't sold a single one. They're all in my basement at home—you'll know the moment you go look."

"Oh?" Qiu Lingshan was momentarily taken aback, then nodded. "If that is truly the case, the police will consider honoring your wishes."

"And one more thing. The doctor who saved my life today—I'd like to put up another ten million to thank him." Liu Bojia said. "As for the last ten million, if I ever get out of prison in my lifetime, it'll be more than enough to live on. I've lost my wife and my child—having that much money is no use to me. I'd rather give it to the people who've helped me... If I'm sentenced to death, then just donate that remaining ten million to archaeological research institutions... Consider it my final wish as an archaeologist..."

Qiu Lingshan had not expected Liu Bojia to be like this—not utterly evil after all, still possessing a conscience and a sense of decency.

In fact, thinking it over carefully, the crimes he had committed were not of the kind that outraged all decency.

"The person who saved you that day and the one who saved you today are the same man." Qiu Lingshan did not want to deceive Liu Bojia. "Are you certain you want to give him the entire twenty million?"

"The same man?" Qiu Lingshan's words also left Liu Bojia stunned. "He's a doctor?"

"You could say he is, and you could say he isn't." Qiu Lingshan did not answer the question directly.

"Can I—could I meet him?" Liu Bojia mused for a moment, then suddenly asked.

"You want to see him? What for?" Qiu Lingshan found Liu Bojia's request a little strange.

"He saved my life. I want to give him something in return," Liu Bojia said. "Could you help me get in touch with him?"

"Something in return?" Qiu Lingshan asked, somewhat curious.

"It has nothing to do with my own case, so I can choose not to tell you." Liu Bojia was being blunt; he knew he was going to prison, so it no longer mattered.

"All right, I'll help you get in touch with him, but whether he agrees to meet is not for me to decide." Qiu Lingshan nodded. Had the benefit been meant for someone else, she might have pressed further, but since Liu Bojia said he wanted to give Wei Zhao something in return, she did not feel like asking. Deep down, she still hoped Wei Zhao would get something out of this—otherwise, having expended so much of his true qi, he would truly have come out at a great loss!

Liu Bojia nodded. "I'm tired. I need to rest. Once I've recovered, I'll give you the information about the tomb."

Qiu Lingshan and Chen Yuxuan did not linger either, and left Liu Bojia's hospital room.

"I never expected Liu Bojia to be so cooperative this time." Qiu Lingshan truly had not anticipated Liu Bojia's attitude this time around; she had assumed it would take several rounds of psychological pressure before he would open up.
