Chapter 794 — There Are Still People in the Building

The Blossom Guardian

Kang Jingming thought it over: what Wei Zhao said made sense. That agreement was really just a formality — it couldn't actually bind anyone to anything! Even if Xiaofen kept quiet, Wei Zhao and Kang Xiaofeng could still talk. A person's mouth belonged to them, and you couldn't very well make everyone sign a non-disclosure agreement, could you?

At that thought, Kang Jingming's mind was put at ease. "Then I'll trust you. Go on, hurry there and back. Is there a TV here? I'll watch for a while!"

"There is, but the sunlight outside is too harsh. Xiaofen, go draw the curtains, then turn on the TV for Kang Jingming!" Wei Zhao said to Xiaofen.

Xiaofen found it a little strange that Wei Zhao would treat Kang Jingming so generously, but she did as she was told.

The television in Xiaofen's home was the oldest sort — a twenty-one-inch curved-screen model, long since obsolete, though it would still do in a pinch.

Kang Jingming was delighted and didn't mind the old set at all. He sat down on the sofa and happily started watching the children's channel.

Wei Zhao led Kang Xiaofeng and Xiaofen downstairs. It was exactly seven fifty-five. The workers on the bulldozers and excavators over there were already in position and would be coming over any moment to tear the building down.

Only at that moment did Kang Xiaofeng suddenly understand Wei Zhao's intent: he meant to leave Kang Jingming inside Xiaofen's home and let the bulldozer demolish it with him in it!

Holy crap, that's brutal! Could Kang Jingming actually get crushed to death?

Casting a somewhat pitying glance back at the three-story building, Kang Xiaofeng followed Wei Zhao and Xiaofen toward where Wei Zhao had parked the car.

The three of them hadn't even reached the car when they heard the bulldozers and excavators start up. Then, with a thunderous roar, the three-story red-brick building was half leveled in an instant.

"Ah!" Xiaofen clapped a hand over her mouth in horror, watching in disbelief as her family's building was knocked down before her eyes!

"Let's find a bank and withdraw the money." Wei Zhao had no interest in whether Kang Jingming lived or died — the world would be better off with that sort of person dead. In any case, it wasn't he who had killed him; let the Kang family go settle accounts with Zhao Qibing.

"But Kang Jingming..." Xiaofen had never harmed anyone in her life. Seeing Kang Jingming crushed right before her eyes, she still couldn't quite accept it. "And my family's house... I have to tell my parents..."

"You've got five hundred thousand now — who cares about the house?" Kang Xiaofeng was more open-minded. "A man like Kang Jingming deserved to be crushed. He only had it coming after hurting you so deeply in the past."

Xiaofen sighed. Since Kang Xiaofeng had put it that way, she could only nod. Otherwise, if she said too much, Kang Xiaofeng might mistakenly think she still had feelings for Kang Jingming, and that would be bad.

Wei Zhao drove Xiaofen and Kang Xiaofeng around until they found a bank, where the money was withdrawn without a hitch. It turned out to be an anonymous wealth-management savings card. Who knew what Kang Jingming had been thinking, handing over the money so trustingly?

They opened a new account under Xiaofen's name, and the five hundred thousand truly landed in Xiaofen's pocket. Then Wei Zhao drove them back to the shantytown.

By this time, the residents of the three-story red-brick building in the shantytown were in an uproar. They hadn't expected that after what happened at Tang Zhi's home last time, Li Cihua would still dare to carry out a forced demolition! And this time it wasn't even a single-story house — it was the three-story red-brick building!

Standing beside Li Cihua, Jin Gubang, and Zhong Fabai was a pack of burly men dressed in black, all wearing sunglasses, looking every bit like triads. The residents of the three-story red-brick building were unhappy, but none dared step forward to make trouble.

Xiaofen's parents had assumed that since theirs was a multi-story building, they could at least demand a bit more compensation. Then they'd ask Mother Tang to put in a word with Wei Zhao and see if they could buy a cheap, not-so-well-located clearance unit at a discount.

The other residents of the building thought much the same: ours is a proper building, so surely we should get a little more compensation?

But now all those dreams were shattered. Their homes were gone, and with them any bargaining power. Whatever money they were offered, they had to take it — take it or leave it, there was nothing they could do about it.

Of course, all that was secondary. When they saw their homes being knocked down, the first thing that came to Xiaofen's parents' minds was that Xiaofen was still inside! With the building collapsed, what was to become of her?

Xiaofen's mother went mad, trying to run home, and Xiaofen's father was the same. Together with the other residents of the three-story red-brick building, they raced toward their homes!

The shantytown residents whose homes were being demolished had the same first instinct as anyone else: run back to their houses. Their furniture and appliances were still inside. Whatever could be salvaged had to be salvaged first.

But the wall of burly men blocked their way. These thugs had no intention of letting them go back.

The previous demolition had nearly cost someone their life. How could Li Cihua possibly let these people run back this time? That was precisely why he had brought in these hulking enforcers from Zhong Fabai's crew to hold the line.

"Let me through! My daughter is still in that building — get out of my way!" Xiaofen's mother ignored the men and, half mad with desperation, tried to shove her way through the wall of bodies.

The thug she pushed lost his patience, seized her hair in one hand, and shoved her back.

How could Xiaofen's mother stand a chance against a man that size? She let out a shriek as a fistful of hair was torn from her scalp, and a slap across the face followed: "Stay put if you don't want to die!"

"Mom!" Xiaofen had just gotten out of the car and saw her mother struck by one of the men. She was frightened nearly to tears, and heedless of her own bad leg, ran as fast as she could toward her mother.

Kang Xiaofeng, worried about Xiaofen and seeing his future mother-in-law struck, was boiling with rage. He charged forward, ready to fight the thug for all he was worth.

Wei Zhao was hardly about to let Kang Xiaofeng rush over and get himself hurt — he was no match for these men. After locking the car, Wei Zhao charged in alongside Kang Xiaofeng, and before Kang Xiaofeng could even raise a hand, Wei Zhao drove a kick into the waist of the thug beating Xiaofen's mother, sending him flying backward. He hit the ground with a thud, his eyes rolling white, out cold.

Kang Xiaofeng knew Wei Zhao was formidable, but he had never imagined one kick could produce such a devastating result. Astonished as he was, he did not forget to warn him: "Boss, look out!"

The other thugs had not expected Wei Zhao to charge in swinging, still less with such vicious force. They dropped what they were doing and closed in around him.

Li Cihua, watching from the front, spotted Wei Zhao too. When he saw him charge in and start hitting people, he was stunned for a moment — but then he saw the lame girl beside Wei Zhao, the one called Xiaofen, calling the beaten woman "Mom," and his heart sank. This was bad.
