Chapter 805 — The Yu Family Comes Calling

The Blossom Guardian

"Feisty little thing, aren't you? I like that!" Zhao Qibing's gaze fell on Yu Xiaoke once more, the threat in his eyes now turned to lewdness. "My offer still stands. Think it over, and you can come find me!"

"In your dreams!" Yu Xiaoke glared at Zhao Qibing, unable to understand why the old director would be wary of this cripple in a wheelchair.

"Hmph. I hope you don't live to regret this — hahahaha!" Zhao Qibing gave a cold laugh. He coveted Yu Xiaoke's looks, but he was in no hurry; his legs were not healed yet, and enjoying a woman was inconvenient besides. There would be time enough once he recovered.

"Xiaoke!" The old director feared Xiaoke would say something more and provoke Zhao Qibing. Though she could tell the man had no martial skill at all and was nothing but a bag of straw, the mountain-like power standing behind him was suffocating!

Yu Xiaoke opened her mouth, feeling wronged. She thought to herself: So he can boast, can he? Your father is an early-stage Earth rank, your grandfather is a late-stage peak Earth rank, your whole family is full of masters — so why are you such a piece of trash? And who knows which good-hearted soul went and broke your legs for you!

"Let's go!" Zhao Qibing cast the old director a contemptuous glance, then waved a hand at Li Cihua.

Li Cihua pushed Zhao Qibing up into the RV, while Zhong Fabai and the crowd of thugs climbed into the van. The four vehicles roared away from the orphanage.

Those thugs had been of no use at all; before a Yellow rank expert, their intimidation was so much vapor. Zhao Qibing had meant to use them to cow the people of the orphanage, but upon learning that the old director was a Yellow rank expert, he had changed his strategy.

"Young Master Bing, you revealed the boss's identity — will that be a problem?" Once in the car, Li Cihua asked Zhao Qibing with some concern.

"A problem? What problem could there be? What did I say? I didn't say anything at all." Zhao Qibing shook his head. "Everything I said was fact. My surname is Zhao, my father is an expert of early-stage Earth rank, my grandfather is an expert of late-stage peak Earth rank — but I never said I was from the hidden Zhao family. She guessed that herself."

"That's true enough. In that case, the boss shouldn't have anything to say." Li Cihua thought it over and had to agree. Zhao Qibing had never once claimed to be of the Zhao family, nor mentioned the names of his father and grandfather! He had only hinted obliquely at it; the rest was the orphanage director's own conjecture.

"Sometimes you have to learn to borrow force to strike force!" Zhao Qibing said. "Give them a few days to think it over, then take some men and put a scare into them. I refuse to believe they won't cave!"

"Oh? Bring men again? Will that do any good?" Li Cihua was taken aback.

"Bring the Medicine King, and of course it will!" Zhao Qibing said. "The cultivation method the Medicine King practices may not be suited to offense, but he is still a Mystic rank expert. I refuse to believe he can't overawe that old woman!"

Only then did Li Cihua recall that there was a Mystic rank expert back at the house. No wonder Young Master Bing was so cocky and unshakable — even without begging reinforcements from the boss, he could handle the orphanage with ease. He nodded. "Understood!"

The four cars drove one after another back to the Gelivable Cloud Bar. It was only a little past four in the afternoon, and the bar was not yet officially open, but parked at its entrance was a black Buick business van with Yanjing plates.

Li Cihua frowned, because the van was parked right at the bar's entrance, in what was the bar's private lot. Unless they were patrons of the bar, people were generally not permitted to park there.

Li Cihua pushed Young Master Bing out of the car, and just then the door of the business van swung open as well, and a young man stepped out.

At the sight of the young man, Li Cihua was briefly startled. He knew this person — Yu Haitian, a manager of Yu Family Trading, of the Yanjing Yu family.

Yu Haitian had also just caught sight of Zhao Qibing in his wheelchair, and he too was briefly taken aback. How had Zhao Qibing become a cripple?

"Young Master Bing, what happened to you?" Yu Haitian walked over, somewhat surprised. Though he was of the Yu family, he also knew Young Master Bing's standing, and so his manner toward him was fairly respectful.

"Isn't this Brother Tian?" Young Master Bing knew Yu Haitian's identity as well — a scion of the hidden Yu family's branch in the secular world. And he himself was the Zhao family's bastard son; one might say the two stood on roughly equal footing, neither able to lord it over the other.

A woman of the Yu family had married into the Zhao family — none other than Zhao Guangyin's principal wife, Zhao Qibing's father. But a marriage of that nature was merely an alliance of interests, and the relationship between the Yu and Zhao families today was in fact far from harmonious!

For the Zhao family envied the Yu family's business in the secular world and was itching to carve out a domain of its own there, yet was held back from acting by the pact of years past — while the Yu family's present standing had come about entirely through a twist of fate!

That branch of the hidden Yu family had in fact been founded by members of the secular Yu family who had been thrown out and cast aside. In truth it had long had nothing to do with the secular Yu family, but as the hidden Yu family grew great, the secular Yu family had naturally latched on to it again, content to become a money-making tool for that branch.

The branch had become the trunk, and the trunk was now the branch — absurd as it sounded, that was the plain fact of it, and it could not be replicated. Other great houses might wish to copy it, but copy it they could not.

And so the Yu family now stood at the head of the mundane world's four great houses and five lesser houses, while those hidden houses, eager to meddle in mundane affairs, dared not lift a finger lightly, held back by the old compact.

That the Yu family had come to this had its historical reasons, and the Yu family declared to the world that this mundane branch of theirs had nothing to do with them — though whether it did or not, everyone knew perfectly well. It was simply that the thing had become an accomplished fact, and there was nothing anyone could do about it.

These past two years the Zhao family had also sought to cultivate a puppet to work with the Yu family, but founding a new mundane house ran counter to the Yu family's present interests, and the proposal was refused. And so relations between the Zhao and Yu families had grown somewhat strained.

On the surface, however, the two families remained on good terms, and so when Yu Haitian came to Songshan City, the first person he paid a call on was naturally Zhao Qibing, the Zhao family's bastard son. Unlike Yu Kun, who had slipped in quietly, he had come in broad daylight and by proper channels, and so appearances had to be kept up.

"Don't even mention it — the very thought of it makes my blood boil. I don't know where some madman crawled out of in Songshan City, but I had the rotten luck to run into him!" Zhao Qibing ground his teeth in fury at the mere mention of his legs.
