Chapter 898 — Who's in the Wrong

The Blossom Guardian

"Is that so..." Shen Yushu nodded after hearing it. "Maybe Shield Bro likes you?"

"Huh?" Gu Mengyao was taken aback. Shen Yushu's words brought an involuntary flush to her cheeks, but she spat back, "How could that be? Don't talk nonsense! If he liked me, why would he go and provoke Tang Zhi?"

"Well, Tang Zhi was bolder than you!" Shen Yushu saw it all clearly. "Sister Yaoyao, if you had confessed earlier, Shield Bro would be yours!"

"..." Gu Mengyao's heart clenched. Was that really true? Still, she shook her head. "Let's not talk about this. I'll call Tang Zhi."

At school, Tang Zhi had been restless all morning. Ever since she and Wei Zhao had parted that morning, she had been worried about him, yet she did not dare call him for fear of disturbing him. So she had not taken in a single word her teacher said in class; her mind had been fixed on Wei Zhao the whole time.

She barely endured until noon, and still there was no news of Wei Zhao. She could not help but call him — but the voice on the other end was a recorded message saying the phone was switched off. Tang Zhi's heart tightened at once, and a bad premonition surged up within her!

Wei Zhao, why was his phone off? Before, it had been Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu whose phones were off; now Wei Zhao's was off too! Had something happened to him as well?

At that thought, Tang Zhi hurriedly called Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu, but both phones were still switched off. Anxiety gripped her at once! She wanted to know how Wei Zhao was, yet at this moment she had no idea whom to ask. Frantic, she paced in circles, too restless to eat lunch, and sat alone at her desk in the classroom, staring blankly into space, utterly at a loss.

Just then, her phone suddenly rang. Tang Zhi started and snatched it up. The caller ID showed an unfamiliar landline number. She answered at once. "Hello?"

"Tang Zhi? This is Gu Mengyao." The young miss's cell phone was gone too, so she had to use the landline at home to call Tang Zhi. Fortunately, her natural antipathy toward Tang Zhi meant she had Tang Zhi's number memorized clearly; otherwise she truly would not have known how to reach her.

"Ah? Gu Mengyao? You're all right?" Tang Zhi's heart eased. If Gu Mengyao was fine, then Wei Zhao should be fine too — but the next moment her heart clenched again! If Wei Zhao were fine, why would it be Gu Mengyao calling her instead of Wei Zhao himself? That did not quite make sense. So she asked instinctively, "Where's Wei Zhao? Is he with you?"

"Wei Zhao..." Gu Mengyao had already decided to tell Tang Zhi, but now that the words reached her lips, she stopped. She did not know how to say it — how to face Tang Zhi.

"What's happened to Wei Zhao?" Seeing Gu Mengyao hesitate, Tang Zhi's sense of foreboding only deepened. "What happened to him?"

"He... he's hurt..." Gu Mengyao gritted her teeth and forced herself to speak. "I'm sorry..."

"Hurt? Is it serious?" Tang Zhi asked urgently.

"He's unconscious, but he should be out of danger. After all, he's pulled through every time he's been hurt..." Gu Mengyao said cautiously. This time, before Tang Zhi, her confidence was somewhat shaken, but there was nothing to be done — Wei Zhao had been hurt because of her, after all.

"Should be?" Tang Zhi was somewhat angered. What did she mean, should be? How could they be so careless? She demanded at once, "What did the doctor say? Where are you now? I'll come over right away!"

"We didn't go to the hospital. We're at the villa at home..." Gu Mengyao said.

"What! Why didn't you take him to the hospital? You... really!" Tang Zhi was beside herself with anger. "He's injured, and you didn't take him to the hospital — are you trying to kill him?"

"Tang Zhi, listen to me first!" Gu Mengyao understood Tang Zhi's feelings well enough. "It's true Wei Zhao is hurt, but every time he's been hurt before, he's recovered on his own. And this time, he only asked us to take him somewhere quiet to heal, not to a hospital..."

"I see..." Tang Zhi suddenly recalled that when Wei Zhao had gone to settle scores with Zhao Qibing on her behalf and torn down his building, he had also been beaten by Zhao Qibing's men, and he had not gone to a hospital either — he had gone back to Fat Pang's house to recover! And afterward, without any doctor's help, Wei Zhao had healed himself. At that thought, Tang Zhi felt a little embarrassed about her earlier rashness. "I was too anxious. I'm sorry. I'll come over right now!"

Tang Zhi's apology only made Gu Mengyao more embarrassed. After all, Wei Zhao had been hurt because of her, and Tang Zhi was still speaking to her like this. Her guilt only deepened. "You don't need to apologize to me. You're worried about Wei Zhao, and there's nothing wrong with that. In the end, it's all because of me that Wei Zhao got hurt. I should be the one apologizing to you!"

"All right, enough of who's right and who's wrong. I'm coming over right now!" Tang Zhi did not want to get tangled up in the issue — there was no point to it. Her worry for Wei Zhao had already outweighed her resentment toward Gu Mengyao.

Though Tang Zhi still brooded a little over Wei Zhao getting hurt for Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu's sake, it was, after all, Wei Zhao's own choice. Going to rescue them had been Wei Zhao's decision, and as his girlfriend, she ought to support him unconditionally rather than blame Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu.

"Just come straight to my house, Villa District, Number A0033," Gu Mengyao said. "The security guards here all know it..."

"All right..." Tang Zhi noted down the house number of Gu Mengyao's home, hung up the phone, and came stumbling out of the classroom. She nearly collided head-on with someone, and only her quick reflexes saved her—she pulled up short just in time.

"Director Wang..." Tang Zhi was startled. She had not expected it to be Wang Zhifeng.

"Tang Zhi?" Wang Zhifeng was about to start lecturing this reckless student, but when he saw that it was Tang Zhi of all people, the words he had prepared died in his throat. Wei Zhao's girlfriend—not someone he could afford to cross! So he could only smile and say, "In the corridor, you should walk a little slower. What if you fell and hurt yourself? Be careful!"
