Chapter 2327 — A Happy Phone Call

The Blossom Guardian

Even though Sun Jingyan knew nothing had happened between her and Wei Zhao, they had, after all, come out of the same room together, and she could hardly be sure Feng Tianlong would not read too much into it.

But what puzzled Sun Jingyan was that Feng Tianlong asked not a single question about the matter. His attitude toward her was friendly—he even smiled and said that he was an old acquaintance of the Sun family patriarch, and that they got along rather well.

"Xiaoyi, have you been in touch with Xiaoxiao lately?" Feng Tianlong asked Wei Zhao after the meal.

"No, but it seems Yaoyao and the others have been in contact with her..." Wei Zhao shook his head. "They said Xiaoxiao told me to find myself a first wife, which left me a little baffled."

Feng Tianlong was briefly taken aback, then smiled as he understood. Gu Mengyao had cautioned him about the matter between Wei Zhao and Tang Zhi, and Wei Zhao had most likely remembered something about his having a first wife; then Gu Mengyao and Feng Xiaoxiao had put their heads together, and it had come out as an instruction for him to find a first wife.

A father knows his daughter best, and Feng Tianlong naturally understood what was in his girl's heart, though he did not call it out. As for Sun Jingyan, he had even less to complain about. His daughter had been fond of Wei Zhao back then; had Tang Zhi not relented, how could things have come to this day?

So whoever Wei Zhao was with, as long as Xiaoxiao and Tang Zhi were willing, what business was it of his to meddle? If not for Wei Zhao, Xiaoxiao would likely have perished long ago.

"Oh, Xiaoxiao did seem to mention to me before that she wanted you to find a first wife," Feng Tianlong nodded, affirming the matter.

"Is that so?" Hearing even Feng Tianlong say so, Wei Zhao was convinced, though he still found it a little odd.

"Haha, well then, I'll be going. I owe you for this—without your help I would never have caught the Third Boss," Feng Tianlong said. "Still, this is only a branch of the Red Conch. Capturing their people will buy us some quiet for a while, but it won't cripple them. I hope we can get something useful out of this."

Wei Zhao nodded but offered no further explanation. What the Third Boss knew was truly limited; Wei Zhao had already asked everything worth asking, and he doubted Feng Tianlong would extract much of use either. If anything could be learned, the former First and Second Bosses would have spoken long ago—why wait for the Third?

As for the Third Boss's strength, there was nothing to fear. His injuries were severe, and healing himself was impossible; without pills like the Minor Restoration Pill and the Meridian-Unblocking Pill, he would be crippled for life.

After Feng Tianlong left, the Fire Wolf Hotel was sealed off as well. Naturally, Wei Zhao and Sun Jingyan could not go on staying there—even if they did, there would be no attendants left. Everyone connected to the Red Conch had been arrested, and those unconnected had departed; only an empty shell of a building remained.

Wei Zhao and Sun Jingyan first drove the recovered car to find another hotel and checked in. After Wei Zhao finished refining the poison, he called Brother Dafeng and asked him to come to the hotel. Before Brother Dafeng arrived, Wei Zhao made another call—to Han Xiaohu.

"Boss, you haven't contacted me in ages. I hear you haven't been to school lately?" Although Han Xiaohu's hidden Han family had distant relatives at East Sea Engineering University, the kidnapping of Wang Xinyan was known only to a handful of people around Gu Mengyao, so naturally Han Xiaohu had heard nothing.

"Yeah, I had business and went away," Wei Zhao said. "How are things on your end? That cultivators' market you mentioned last time—when does trading start?"

"That will take a while yet," Han Xiaohu said. "If there's any word, I'll notify you in advance, Boss."

"Good. By the way, I'm calling because I'd like to borrow a Minor Qi-Gathering Pill from you first; I'll return it once I'm back." Wei Zhao was thinking that once he returned, Han Jingyi should be able to mass-produce Minor Qi-Gathering Pills. The ingredients were rather hard to find, but he had extorted some from the hidden You family earlier.

"Sure, but how do I get it to you?" Han Xiaohu agreed without a moment's hesitation.

"I'm at the xx Grand Hotel in Qingrun City. Just send it by Flying Fish Express, the fastest service—it should arrive in a day," Wei Zhao said.

"All right, I'll send it over right away," Han Xiaohu promised.

After the call with Han Xiaohu, Brother Dafeng had still not arrived. The Conch Bar had escaped harm this time, which conveniently provided a reason for Brother Dafeng's lucky escape—otherwise, with even the Third Boss arrested, how could Brother Dafeng, of all people, have avoided capture?

So Brother Dafeng had temporarily returned to the Conch Bar to contact headquarters and clean up the mess.

"Have you called Wu Chengtian and the others?" Wei Zhao asked.

"Not yet. I was just about to get in touch with them when all this happened, and I only just got my phone back, so I haven't had time to call," Sun Jingyan said.

"Then I'll make the call." Wei Zhao nodded. He had only just relaxed; matters here could be considered wrapped up for now.

Wei Zhao called the eldest young lady directly. When Gu Mengyao picked up and saw it was Wei Zhao, she was rather overcome. So much had happened at home these days—joys and sorrows and setbacks—but in the end the outcome was not bad.

As one of the pillars of the household after Wei Zhao's departure, Gu Mengyao had held on day after day, and it had been hard going. On one hand she had to look after Wu Chengtian and Old Master Pi; on the other, she had to tell them, brightly and confidently, that Wei Zhao had said he would be back soon...

But though Gu Mengyao said so, she had no news of Wei Zhao at all. Everyone assumed she had been in contact with him, yet Gu Mengyao herself knew that she had not dared make a single call, for fear of disturbing him.

Still, she had to pretend she knew everything and tell everyone not to worry—that once Wei Zhao returned, all would be well.

So when she saw this number on her phone today, Gu Mengyao's spirits soared. The eldest young lady, who had always kept her feelings in check, was for once visibly excited: "Wei Zhao, are you coming back soon?"

"Yeah, soon—in a day or two." Wei Zhao was taken aback; he had not expected that to be the first thing out of her mouth.

"That's good..." Gu Mengyao breathed a sigh of relief. "It's good that you're coming back soon..."

"What's wrong? Has something happened at home?" Wei Zhao frowned, sharply sensing that something was off.

"After you left, Wang Xinyan was kidnapped... It happened like this..." And Gu Mengyao proceeded to recount in detail everything that had happened at home since Wei Zhao's departure...
