Chapter 2528 — Challenge Again
Wang Xinyan thought about it and supposed he was right. How could Wei Zhao be that sort of person? She had let her worry get the better of her. She was not afraid that Wei Zhao would go around boasting that he had slept with her—what she feared was the news reaching Kang Jinglong's ears, and Kang Jinglong appealing to the Xuandan Sect to move against Wei Zhao...
After all, sleeping side by side during military training had been with clothes on and with plenty of classmates nearby. But sleeping at Wei Zhao's villa was a different matter entirely—who would believe nothing had happened between them?
"You're right, I was overthinking it..." Wang Xinyan nodded. "But after that sleep, I feel much better."
"Then come sleep here again tonight," Wei Zhao invited.
"I... I'm already better, aren't I..." Hearing Wei Zhao's blatant invitation, Wang Xinyan's heart immediately fluttered into chaos.
"I bought a full course of the medicine. We need to consolidate the effect. Your constitution is weak—it's not an illness," Wei Zhao said with perfect seriousness.
"Then... all right. But how long will it take? It can't be too long. If I'm always away from the dorm, Meiyue and Xiaoling are bound to get suspicious..." Wang Xinyan hesitated for a moment, then agreed, though she was still a little worried.
"Only about a week..." Wei Zhao said with some regret. Wang Xinyan still could not let herself go; evidently her misgivings had not been dispelled.
"That works..." Wang Xinyan nodded, which counted as her agreement.
"Then I'll go make breakfast. Sleep a little longer," Wei Zhao said, rising to his feet.
"Do you need my help?" Wang Xinyan asked.
"No need." Wei Zhao smiled and walked out of the room.
Wei Zhao was an old hand at making breakfast. With Granny Sun and Uncle Qing gone, he had once again become the young lady's personal male servant... mm, now he was the personal male servant of four young ladies, Han Jingyi included.
When breakfast was ready, Wei Zhao called Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu downstairs to eat, then phoned Han Jingyi to bring Han Xiaochao over and join them.
"Xiaoshu is about to starve flat! I didn't eat a thing last night, you know. Sister Yaoyao is so mean—I was starving to death in the middle of the night and wanted to ask Arrow Brand Bro to fix me something to eat, but Sister Yaoyao wouldn't allow it and forced me to sleep, telling me that once I fell asleep I wouldn't be hungry anymore. Boo hoo hoo hoo..." Shen Yushu catalogued Gu Mengyao's crimes all the way down the stairs.
"Pfft..." Wei Zhao had not expected the young lady to have such a comical side. Once you fall asleep you won't be hungry anymore? Ha...
"And so Xiaoshu dreamed all night long about a piece of grilled shark meat right in front of me, but I just couldn't eat it—no matter what, I couldn't eat it..." Shen Yushu plopped down at the dining table, grabbed a fried pancake, and began devouring it. "It's not as tasty as shark meat, but it's not bad at all. Arrow Brand Bro's breakfast is always delicious..."
"Can't you shut your mouth with food in it?" Gu Mengyao shot Shen Yushu a glare. "If you're hungry, hurry up and eat. All this dawdling—you sound like an old granny!"
"..." Shen Yushu fell silent and set about demolishing the food before her.
Only then did Wang Xinyan realize that this villa was simply brimming with joy. Shen Yushu was a regular little ray of sunshine—a few casual words from her were enough to make anyone split their sides laughing.
Soon Han Jingyi arrived with Han Xiaochao. Wang Xinyan's presence here surprised Han Jingyi somewhat, but she did not ask about it.
After breakfast, the six of them headed to school together in Wei Zhao's seven-seat Grand Cherokee. What Wei Zhao had not expected was that, early in the morning in the parking lot, he would run into someone he had no wish to see—Zhong Yongliang!
Zhong Yongliang had just arrived at school with Gao Xiaofu. Though the two of them were boarders as well, how could the school dorms compare to the comforts outside? They had rented an apartment near the school the moment they arrived and spent every night there.
Seeing Wei Zhao and Gu Mengyao's group get out of the car, Zhong Yongliang's eyes all but spat fire! He cursed inwardly: Wei Zhao, look at all the beauties around you—would it kill you to just let me have Gu Mengyao?
Still, in front of Gu Mengyao, Zhong Yongliang put on a most magnanimous front and strode over generously. "Well, if it isn't Yaoyao and Xiaoshu! Wei Zhao, you're working awfully hard as their bodyguard. If it's too exhausting, let me take over for you."
"A defeated general, still shooting off his mouth? Did losing a thousand yuan to me yesterday teach you nothing?" Wei Zhao eyed Zhong Yongliang mockingly. "I say, Zhong Yongliang, you paid a visit to the Tomorrow Upon Tomorrow Sect, so why haven't you gained any sense? Your underling Zhang Nai pao got a thrashing from me—do you want to follow in his footsteps?"
"Oh ho?" Zhong Yongliang was instantly delighted by Wei Zhao's words. "I say, Wei Zhao, yesterday you merely knocked me down, didn't you? But I'm perfectly fine. Look at me now—do I look injured to you? I can not only run, I can jump. See? How nimble?"
"Are you putting on a monkey show?" Wei Zhao asked, watching Zhong Yongliang bounce about.
"Stow that useless talk." Zhong Yongliang, not in the least put out, waved a hand. "Wei Zhao, since we've run into each other here, I'll save myself the trouble of hunting you down! I, Zhong Yongliang, hereby declare a formal challenge for the position of Gu Mengyao's personal bodyguard. Well? Do you dare accept?"
"Accept? What's in it for me if I accept? If I lose, the position is yours; if I win, I get nothing? Do you think everyone's as brain-dead as you?" Wei Zhao curled his lip in disdain.
"Then what do you propose? How will you accept my challenge?" Zhong Yongliang was taken aback and shot back. "Still, I'd say there's an eighty percent chance you don't dare accept because you're afraid of losing to me! Yesterday you couldn't do a thing to me, and today will be no different!"
"Yesterday I had no intention of fighting you at all. After all, we're old classmates—I didn't even beat Zhang Nai pao to death, so why would I kill you? If I'd wanted you dead, you'd have been dead long ago. Why would I wait until now?" Wei Zhao regarded Zhong Yongliang with derision.
"Damn it! Cut the crap. Just tell me—do you dare accept the challenge or not?" Zhong Yongliang said impatiently.
"Accepting the challenge is doable—it's not out of the question. But there ought to be a stake, don't you think?" Wei Zhao said. "If I lose, I hand the position over to you. If you lose, you'll have to give me something in return, won't you?"
"What do you want?" Zhong Yongliang asked.
"I hear you brought back something nice from the Tomorrow Upon Tomorrow Sect?" Wei Zhao asked.
