Chapter 2725 — A Strange Phenomenon

The Blossom Guardian

"Well, I guessed as much long ago. Otherwise, how could there be fire poison in my body?" Shen Yushu said with a shrug, though a flicker of disappointment, barely perceptible, passed through her eyes.

"Yaoyao, you are next," Wei Zhao said, having failed to notice Shen Yushu's disappointment.

"All right, let me see!" Gu Mengyao nodded and, mimicking Xiaoshu, placed her palm atop the round bead.

After a moment, a brilliant golden light flashed across the bead, dazzling to behold.

"Yaoyao, you have a metal-attribute constitution, and it is also a true attribute," Wei Zhao said upon seeing the result. These two results caught Wei Zhao somewhat by surprise; he had not expected both of them to possess true-attribute constitutions. Such a constitution was the easiest to cultivate—so long as one had a suitable cultivation method, one would progress faster than ordinary cultivators!

"Metal attribute? So I am of the metal attribute!" Gu Mengyao was somewhat surprised by her own attribute. "Then I shall keep an eye out for metal-attribute cultivation methods and incantations in the future."

Wei Zhao nodded and said to Wang Xinyan, "Xinyan, you are next."

"Can I... cultivate as well?" Wang Xinyan placed her palm on the round bead with some curiosity, waiting nervously for the test result.

But after some five or six seconds, no change whatsoever appeared on the bead. Wei Zhao could not help feeling a little disappointed—could it be that Wang Xinyan had neither a true attribute nor a pseudo-attribute in her body, and thus could not become a formidable cultivator?

Although artificially manufactured virtual attributes could also be cultivated, those who cultivated them would certainly not advance as swiftly as cultivators possessing true or pseudo-attributes.

Wang Xinyan was disappointed as well. Both Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu had attributes of their own—only she had none. Did that mean she was doomed never to become an expert as formidable as Wei Zhao?

Wei Zhao also saw the desolation in Wang Xinyan's eyes, and was about to console her, saying that even a virtual attribute could accomplish great things—just look at himself. But before Wei Zhao could speak, the round bead suddenly began to flash with baffling colors, as though a computer program had gone awry!

"Ah!" The strange sight before them made Gu Mengyao, Shen Yushu, and Wang Xinyan herself cry out in unison, none of them knowing what had happened. Wang Xinyan instinctively drew back her hand, pulling away from the bead.

Only then did the glow on the bead dissipate. Wei Zhao too was badly startled by this sudden turn—just what on earth was going on? Wang Xinyan's test result was unlike Wei Zhao's own. Wei Zhao possessed a constitution of the five elements and seven attributes; though his result had also shown multiple colors, it had displayed the seven colors in proper, orderly fashion. Wang Xinyan's, however, was entirely different—her result was a simultaneous flashing of every color, presenting a dazzling, multicolored spectacle, as though the program had gone haywire, all the colors interweaving and flashing together until one could not tell what color was actually being shown!

"This is... Xinyan, why don't you test it again for me?" Wei Zhao said, perplexed.

"Ah... all right!" Wang Xinyan had only pulled her hand away after being badly startled. Now, at Wei Zhao's word, she hastily put it back. After a while, the same phenomenon appeared on the bead once more—radiant lights of every hue flashing together, impossible to distinguish which color was truly shining...

"This..." Wei Zhao scratched his scalp, at a loss. He could only consult Leader Bai again, and dialed Leader Bai's number. Wei Zhao came straight to the point, recounting the strange situation he had encountered with Wang Xinyan.

"What? Every color flashing at once?" Leader Bai was taken aback. "Really? You did not see it wrong?"

"No, it is still flashing right now..." Wei Zhao said.

"I truly have never seen such a thing, and it is not recorded in that Register of Strange Tales either," Leader Bai said. "A situation like this—perhaps even Patriarch Zhang Lifeng never encountered it. I can only come and see it with my own eyes, and then help you continue looking into the records..."

"Very well, then I shall trouble you, Teacher Bai," Wei Zhao said with a bitter smile. So even the Register of Strange Tales had no record of such a case—it seemed Zhang Lifeng had never come across it either.

"Fine. I will contact you once I have news," Leader Bai said.

After hanging up, Wei Zhao repeated Leader Bai's words to Wang Xinyan and the others. Wang Xinyan was astonished to hear it—could her constitution really be so bizarre? Even the round bead used for testing could not determine it? How marvelous was that?

"Then... can I actually cultivate or not?" Wang Xinyan asked cautiously.

"That is not yet clear for the moment. But since the bead can detect your attribute, even if we do not know what attribute it is, you should still be able to cultivate—we simply do not know which method and incantation you ought to practice," Wei Zhao said after a moment's thought. "In fact, it does not matter. Do not be anxious for now; we will let Teacher Bai look into it slowly."

"Yes, all right..." Wang Xinyan nodded.

After testing their bodily attributes, the group chatted a while longer about cultivation and then went to rest. Wei Zhao, however, returned to his room with Wang Xinyan in high excitement—from tonight onward, he could once again hold Wang Xinyan close and cultivate at breakneck speed!

The journey from the late Earth Tier to the late Earth Tier grand completion was a rather lengthy process, but with Wang Xinyan's help, the pace should be somewhat faster.

Yet Wang Xinyan did not get out of bed. Even after Wei Zhao had prepared breakfast, she was still fast asleep, which left Wei Zhao puzzled. Over the past days, Wang Xinyan had taken the potions Wei Zhao concocted every day, and the problem of her weak constitution seemed to have improved slightly; she no longer slept so excessively, and would rise normally in the morning to eat breakfast. But this morning she had begun to drowse again, which made Wei Zhao wonder.

Gu Mengyao, Shen Yushu, and Han Jingyi had all arrived, yet Wang Xinyan had still not risen. Wei Zhao had no choice but to go to the room and wake her—only to find that Wang Xinyan was still sound asleep in bed...

"Xinyan, get up and have breakfast," Wei Zhao said, shaking her gently.

"Ah... oh..." Wang Xinyan opened her eyes groggily and gave Wei Zhao a bewildered glance. She wanted to get up, but a wave of drowsiness swept over her again, defeating the attempt. Half-asleep, she mumbled, "I am not eating. I am so sleepy. Let me sleep a while longer—call me when it is time for school..."
