Chapter 2814 — The Five Systems' True Attributes
"The fact that you did not do it does not mean no one else did," Jiao Yazi said flatly. "Perhaps that dinosaur did it. Perhaps that little girl did."
"They..." Jiao Yazi's reminder made Wei Zhao think of something immensely important—the girl's final strike, that ultimate killing martial skill! At the time, Wei Zhao had found it somewhat familiar, but because he was injured, he had no time to ponder it. Now, looking back, it suddenly struck him that this martial skill was actually rather similar to his own!
That was it—the Five Elements Eight Trigrams Palm! And connecting it with the strange radiance on the girl's palm, Wei Zhao at once recalled the scene when Tagan Long had unleashed his martial skill. This girl could actually use the Five Elements Eight Trigrams Palm!
The discovery made Wei Zhao's heart skip a beat. Could the girl be a member of the Tagan family? Perhaps Tagan Long's younger sister? Then again, she might belong to the Five Luminaries Sect, with no connection to the Tagan family at all.
But no matter which faction the girl belonged to—the Tagan family or the Five Luminaries Sect—she was Wei Zhao's enemy. At that thought, Wei Zhao hesitated. Should he save her or not? He had no wish to save an enemy for nothing, only to have her turn against him.
The girl was beautiful, true—but so is a poisonous mushroom, and one bite will kill you.
When the Xuanyuan Dragon-Taming Art advanced to the second layer's grand completion, Wei Zhao found that all the injuries on his body had healed completely as well. He quickly returned from the jade pendant's space to reality, and there he saw the Heavenly Thunder Pig keeping anxious watch at his side.
"Eh? Heavenly Thunder Pig, you are unharmed?" Wei Zhao looked at the Heavenly Thunder Pig beside him in some surprise. The creature seemed not to have suffered any injury whatsoever.
"Oink oink!" The Heavenly Thunder Pig nodded, then wrote with its claw in a patch of soft earth: "When the fur on my body puffs up, it works as a cushion."
Having written this, the Heavenly Thunder Pig deliberately puffed up its fur to show Wei Zhao, then bounced on the ground. Wei Zhao was left somewhat speechless—this Heavenly Thunder Pig could turn into a bouncy ball, no wonder nothing had happened to it.
"How is that girl doing?" The thing weighing most heavily on Wei Zhao's mind was that beautiful girl in yellow. Should he save her or not? If he saved her, he feared she might turn on him; if he did not, he remembered how he had forcibly kissed her, and how, when he was lying on top of her and the Five Baleful Dragons attacked him, she had still called out a warning.
Had she not warned him, he would not have had time to circulate his heart method's mnemonic and true qi to protect his body, and his injuries would surely have been even worse. Whether he could have lasted until the fall from the valley was uncertain. So in a sense, the girl was his savior, and if he did not save her, he truly would find it hard to bear.
"Oink oink..." The Heavenly Thunder Pig stretched out a claw and pointed toward a spot not far away.
"Oh? You mean she is over there? Then let us go take a look!" Wei Zhao rose to his feet and set off with the Heavenly Thunder Pig in the direction it indicated, observing his surroundings as he walked.
This was the bottom of the valley behind the Five Baleful Mountains. Wei Zhao lifted his head to look at the Five Baleful Mountains from which he had fallen, and his expression changed at once! This place was a valley from which there was no way up; the cliff face before him was utterly smooth, without even a foothold for climbing!
If the peak were somewhat low, that would be one thing—Wei Zhao was, after all, a late-stage Earth-rank expert now, and with a leap and several attempts he might have vaulted his way up. But this peak was unbelievably high; there was simply no possibility of leaping up it!
And the mountain range stretched on and on without end. Wei Zhao did not know whether it had a limit; at least, from what he could see before him, there was no way up.
On the other side of the range lay a vast, boundless expanse of open land. What was over there, Wei Zhao did not know either. In any case, no end could be seen at a glance, and at that, Wei Zhao's heart turned cold!
That dinosaur had been wicked enough indeed, to dump him in such a godforsaken place. Even if he did not die from the fall, he could not get back—he would die of being trapped here!
At first, Wei Zhao had been wondering whether he should save the beautiful girl, but now it seemed that the more people there were, the more strength they would have. He still did not know how to escape this place, and having an expert at the peak of late-stage Heaven-rank at his side was always a good thing. Besides, if he said nothing, the girl probably would not know that he was her enemy. Get out of this place first, he decided, and once out, each could go their separate way.
Following the direction the Heavenly Thunder Pig indicated, Wei Zhao found the beautiful girl in the yellow dress amid a pile of rubble. It seemed that apart from the fatal wound on her chest, she had suffered no other injuries.
Yet the girl's little face, once somewhat rosy and full of spirit, was now utterly pale, which was enough to show that her injuries were by no means light! It seemed that when she fell from the cliff, she had circulated her heart method's mnemonic at full power to protect her body, which was why she had not been smashed to a pulp by the fall from such a height. But precisely because she had spent all her true qi on shielding her body, she had not sealed the wound on her chest, and so her internal injuries had grown all the more severe.
Wei Zhao bent down and tested the girl in yellow's breath. There was still breath in her, which set his mind at ease.
The beautiful girl in yellow was not dead. Wei Zhao began to examine her injuries. At first, he had thought it would be enough to repair her internal injuries with the second layer of the Xuanyuan Dragon-Taming Art, but when he looked closely, he found that something was wrong!
In the girl's chest was a shard of white dinosaur claw, buried deep in her heart—so deep that it had nearly pierced through her entire chest cavity!
If the dinosaur claw shard were not removed, then even the Xuanyuan Dragon-Taming Art could not repair the girl's injuries, for this was a foreign object standing in the way.
It seemed the claw shard would have to be taken out first. Wei Zhao sighed. Fortunately, there was a sharp little knife in his shoe, so performing a bit of surgery on the girl would be no problem. The difficulty was that, given the girl's current strength, she probably could not hold out much longer; Wei Zhao might barely have begun cutting before she gave out.
