Chapter 3266 — The Red Conch Headquarters

The Blossom Guardian

"Nothing much. Which floor is the general manager's office on?" Wei Zhao asked.

"That I wouldn't know. Our report meeting was held in the conference room, so as for which floor the general manager's office is on, I've got no idea either," Brother Dafeng said with a trace of apology. "I couldn't find out even if I tried..."

"It's fine. I'll ask around myself." Wei Zhao nodded. This was a minor matter. So long as he could be certain that the document was inside the general manager's office, that was enough.

"All right, Mr. Lin, take care of yourself," Brother Dafeng reminded him. If nothing happened to Wei Zhao, then the benefits Brother Dafeng reaped in the future would be considerable; if something happened to Wei Zhao, then he would likely be stuck in his current position until retirement—and might even get dragged down with him.

Wei Zhao hung up and walked to the private room where Xu Shilan and Cheng Yiyi were resting. He knocked on the door, and Cheng Yiyi's voice came from inside almost at once: "Who is it?"

"Yiyi, it's me," Wei Zhao said.

The door opened the moment he finished speaking. Cheng Yiyi stood before him in a bathrobe, her hair still dripping wet. Her wheat-colored skin, moistened by the steam, glistened brightly, and Wei Zhao's eyes lit up at once.

He had to admit it: a girl like Cheng Yiyi, brimming with a healthy, feral beauty, was enormously attractive to men. Wei Zhao had already been tempted once before, and now, seeing her standing before him so lightly clad, he still felt a touch of awkwardness.

"Yiyi, were you two taking a bath?" Wei Zhao hadn't expected they still weren't finished.

"No, Xiaohan's in the sauna. I'm up next in a bit," Cheng Yiyi said with a smile. "You think girls wash up the way you do—just a quick rinse and you're done?"

Wei Zhao paused for a moment, then smiled wryly. True enough. In the past, the young lady and Xiaoshu always had bubble baths and sauna sessions whenever they bathed; he simply hadn't given it much thought.

"Are you looking for Xiaohan?" Seeing Wei Zhao frozen there, Cheng Yiyi asked with a faint smile, though a bitter note stirred in her heart. Wei Zhao probably wouldn't come looking for her of his own accord, would he? If he was here, it had to be for Xu Shilan.

"Looking for you works too," Wei Zhao said. "I have something to take care of, so I'm heading out. If anything comes up, text me if you can, and call only if it's urgent. Don't worry about me—and don't leave this place."

"Huh? You're going out?" Cheng Yiyi asked, slightly taken aback.

"Yeah. There's something I need to do." Wei Zhao didn't go into detail. In truth, there was no need to.

"All right then. Be careful out there. Xiaohan and I will wait for you here..." Cheng Yiyi nodded without pressing further and instructed him gently.

Wei Zhao felt a beat of awkwardness. Cheng Yiyi, standing there in her bathrobe, telling him that she and Xiaohan would be waiting for him here—however he heard it, it carried a faintly suggestive ring. But whether or not there was any seductive intent in her words, Wei Zhao had to go.

Watching Wei Zhao's departing back, Cheng Yiyi sighed softly. Indeed, just as Wei Zhao had guessed, there really was a hint of seduction in her manner. She had already laid her identity bare before him, so there was no need to hide anything anymore—and no need to conceal her feelings for him.

But it seemed Wei Zhao felt... nothing for her. The flowers had intent, but the water flowed on indifferent.

Shaking her head, Cheng Yiyi shut the door and headed toward the bathroom. She needed to tell Xu Shilan about Wei Zhao.

After leaving the bathhouse, Wei Zhao flagged down a taxi and told the driver, "Tiankeng Road."

He spoke in English, and the driver here could understand it.

As for what Wei Zhao was going to do on Tiankeng Road, the driver didn't ask. He didn't seem to have a particularly high level of English—just enough for basic conversation. For chatting, he fell a bit short—and the more that was so, the happier Wei Zhao felt. Best if no one asked him anything at all.

Dawn had just broken. Tiankeng Road was not a commercial street, so there weren't many people about. After getting out of the car, Wei Zhao began searching for a red building. There weren't many high-rises on this street, and it didn't take him long to spot one on one side of the road, marked with the sign "Conch Group."

Conch Group? Wei Zhao shook his head. Why not call it Fire Wolf Group? But whatever it was called had nothing to do with him. His purpose in coming here was to steal that document from the general manager's office inside the building.

Wei Zhao casually bought a newspaper on the street, then, posing as a passerby, walked over to a bench near the Conch Building and sat down to read, like a leisurely tourist. No one paid him any particular attention.

Out of the corner of his eye, however, he kept watching the Conch Building. To his surprise, even at this early hour, cars were continuously driving in and out of its courtyard. That discovery made Wei Zhao frown.

After all, ordinary companies had hardly anyone around in the morning. The Conch Group was different—so many people coming and going this early. He wondered whether anyone was around at night.

But looking at the building, many of the windows still had their lights on—clearly turned on when it got dark and not yet switched off now that day had broken. Evidently, people did work at the Conch Group at night as well.

Wei Zhao shook his head, picked up his newspaper, and walked toward a restaurant across the street. From his observations, this restaurant was run by a Scottish couple—he could tell from their clothing and the tone in which they spoke with customers.

So Wei Zhao chose this restaurant and went inside.

There weren't many people in the restaurant, since it was simply too early. Only two or three customers were buying things, and all of them were taking their food to go—none had chosen to eat in.

After they left, Wei Zhao bought a few items at random, sat down, and, feigning casualness, struck up a conversation with the couple.

"Ma'am, you're not from around here, are you? You're Scottish, aren't you?" Wei Zhao asked in English.

"That's right, young man. How did you know? Are you here traveling?" The proprietress had nothing else to do at the moment, so when Wei Zhao spoke up, she followed along.

"Yes. I've been over that way before. From your accent, you must be from there—and the decor of your shop, and your clothes, they're all from that region too." Wei Zhao wasn't lying. He had been to Scotland before, back when he was on a mission.

"Heh, this is just a small town. What's there to see? There aren't any particularly good attractions either," the proprietress said with a smile.
