Chapter 3340 — Going Home Together

The Blossom Guardian

The reason he had gone alone, without bringing Yu Xiaoke, was simple: his own strength was hardly exceptional, while Wei Zhao was another matter. Wei Zhao could now slay an expert at the peak of the late Heaven rank in an instant, which meant he was more than capable of protecting Yu Xiaoke. Even if danger arose, with Wei Zhao present it counted for nothing.

Yu Dake took his leave of Wei Zhao directly, walked out of the villa, and got into a Wrangler SUV. It was the traveling money You Panhu had given him—at least it ensured he had some means of transport when he went out.

Yu Xiaoke had finally been able to catch her breath lately. The construction of the orphanage had taken shape and reached scale; it was now the largest charitable welfare institution in the province. Not only did it take in abandoned infants, it also provided free medical assistance to families in difficulty!

One had to understand: when some parents abandoned a sickly infant, it was not that they were especially cruel—it was that they truly had no money for treatment. Rather than let the child die at home, they would sooner take a gamble on whether some kindhearted person might find and raise and cure the child.

If the child could be cured, they would certainly never have abandoned it. So Yu Xiaoke's orphanage now offered free rescue to precisely this kind of family!

The medical building within the orphanage had already been completed. After all, Guan Daye Pharmaceuticals was in that very line of business. To establish a hospital, and with Guan Xuewen's standing in the medical academy, one call would bring many of his former students joining it. Moreover, with the rich hospital-management experience of Guan Xuewen's son, Guan Xiaopeng, sending over a director who understood administration was easy enough.

So although the orphanage's hospital was newly established, its technical standards were not the least bit lacking—which was why, at this moment, it was bustling with people coming and going!

What startled Yu Xiaoke especially was that a huge sum had suddenly appeared in the orphanage's account. The money had been wired from abroad. True, this was the orphanage's public donation account, but the amounts donated were usually limited—each donation at most in the tens of millions. This time, however, it was in the hundreds of millions—and in euros, no less—leaving Yu Xiaoke at a bit of a loss as to what to do!

Who would donate such a huge sum? If it had been a domestic donation, Yu Xiaoke might have believed it, but a foreign donation she could not credit. Could foreigners possibly know about her orphanage? And even if they did, they could not possibly donate so much, surely?

So Yu Xiaoke instinctively thought this money had something to do with Wei Zhao. Still, she could not rule out that it had been wired by Nan Dao. But for some reason, she felt Wei Zhao was the more likely one!

Sometimes Yu Xiaoke had to admit that the money Nan Dao gave her was not as much as Wei Zhao's. And the more so, the more conflicted she became. Several times she wanted to call Wei Zhao and ask whether he was the one behind this money.

Yet Yu Xiaoke also feared that Wei Zhao might grow proud of his own merit and make some improper demand of her, which would put her in an even more awkward position. But Yu Xiaoke was not one to forget a kindness unrequited. After hesitating again and again, she still dialed Wei Zhao's number—only to find that his phone was switched off!

Helpless, she could only ask Fatty Lai, but Fatty Lai could not reach Wei Zhao either. He called Shen Yushu, learned that Wei Zhao had gone abroad, to Europe overseas, and so Fatty Lai told Yu Xiaoke about it.

This time Yu Xiaoke no longer harbored any other doubt: the money had unquestionably come from Wei Zhao. But the more certain she was, the more she felt she owed him. In truth, by any reasonable measure, this money was for the orphanage; Yu Xiaoke herself would not spend a single cent of it. She had every reason to regard Wei Zhao simply as a "benefactor" and need not agonize over it at all. There were so many foundations in this world—if the head of every foundation agonized over its donors and feared they might harbor improper intentions, the whole thing would descend into chaos.

But Yu Xiaoke regarded herself as a member of the orphanage. Even if this money was not spent on her but on the children, she still felt it was for her sake—and that was the fundamental reason for her conflict.

Now the orphanage had finally gotten onto the right track, and Yu Xiaoke was no longer as busy as before. To put it plainly, her role now was quite small; an orphanage on the right track no longer needed her to scrounge for funding everywhere.

Yet the more idle she became, the more Yu Xiaoke feared Wei Zhao would come looking for her, and so she lived her days in conflict. Today, suddenly, an uninvited guest appeared at her office—and when Yu Xiaoke looked closely, it was actually her own brother!

"Brother, what are you doing here?" Yu Xiaoke was somewhat pleasantly surprised. Since her brother had left last time, he had not come again, and she had missed him a good deal—only she had not known how to contact him. She had wanted to ask Wei Zhao, but feared walking straight into the tiger's mouth.

"Xiaoke, have you been well lately? This orphanage—I never imagined it would reach such a scale!" When Yu Dake had come last time, the orphanage had not been nearly so large.

"Quite well, brother. And you?" Yu Xiaoke asked.

"I've broken away from the hidden You family. I'm free now, and I'll have more time to spend with you in the future. But Xiaoke, do you have time? Tomorrow I set out for our old hometown—are you free? If you are, let's go together!" Yu Dake had no time to waste, since he had to set out early the next morning; he had to settle the matter with Yu Xiaoke tonight.

"Ah? Back to the old hometown?" Yu Xiaoke had been adopted by the old director when she was very small, too young to remember much, so she had no real conception of her old hometown. Now that Yu Dake brought it up, naturally she wanted to go back and see her home—her home in the true sense of the word! "I'm all right—things aren't too busy lately. We set out tomorrow? Isn't that a bit rushed? True, a lot of things here are on the right track, but I'll have to make some arrangements."

"Yes, tomorrow! Mr. Lin is the one who summoned me this time; we're going back together, and Mr. Lin's side is in a hurry, so we must reach Donghai City first thing in the morning and set out with him," Yu Dake said.

"Wei Zhao?!" Yu Xiaoke had been quite happy at the talk of going home, but who would have thought Wei Zhao was going too? What did that mean? She and her brother going home was going to their own home—what business did Wei Zhao have going back? Could it be that he too considered himself family? (To be continued...)
