Chapter 3521 — Promotion Failure

The Blossom Guardian

Zhong Yongliang scrambled to his feet and resumed his frantic sprint, with the Five-Shas Dragon still pursuing him from behind. But after running for a while, he pulled a clever little trick: this endless running was simply too exhausting and too miserable, so he pretended to be overcome by fatigue and collapsed to the ground!

Having fallen, he simply waited for the Five-Shas Dragon to turn and attack Kang Jingming instead!

Seeing Zhong Yongliang go down, Kang Jingming was briefly taken aback, wondering how he could have run out of steam so soon. But then it dawned on him: the little bastard was playing tricks! He was trying to slack off!

Kang Jingming was immediately rather displeased. Wasn't this just going to make the beast turn and attack him again? Why hadn't he thought of such a fine idea before?

But just as Kang Jingming was stewing in his resentment, the Five-Shas Dragon did not turn to attack him at all. Instead, it stretched out a foreclaw, scooped Zhong Yongliang up in one grab, and roared, "Don't you damn well play dead with me!"

If even Kang Jingming could see through it, how could the Five-Shas Dragon possibly miss it? The dragon swung its foreclaw in a full circle and flung him with a "whoosh" — and Zhong Yongliang's upper body plunged straight into the earth...

Zhong Yongliang was on the verge of tears. He had only wanted to slack off, and instead he had gotten himself attacked! Startled half to death, he scrambled out of the dirt and resumed his frantic sprint. He had no desire to be on the receiving end of that again...

Zhong Yongliang wanted to curse the dragon, but he held himself back. Curse a dragon for a moment's thrill, and your whole family ends up in the crematorium!

Look at Kang Jingming — wasn't that proof enough? His wife was dead, and he himself had nearly croaked. This really was not something to be cursed at lightly! With no other choice, Zhong Yongliang could only run with all his might, knowing full well the Five-Shas Dragon was toying with him, yet he had to keep running all the same!

Time slipped away, and in the blink of an eye three days had passed. The Five-Shas Dragon had lost its appetite for the game. The inheritors had been inside its cave long enough; any longer, and they would not be able to hold out.

When the Five-Shas Dragon saw the inheritors filing out of the cave one after another, it gave up chasing Kang Jingming and Zhong Yongliang and hurried back to its cave. Passing by the assembled inheritors, it did not spare them so much as a single glance before vanishing!

This left everyone present deeply puzzled. The Five-Shas Dragon really was a strange creature — it had turned a blind eye to the inheritors' cuckoo-in-the-nest occupation of its home!

Kang Jingming and Zhong Yongliang both flopped down onto the ground, gasping for breath in great heaves.

They were exhausted. Three days of running without pause — it had been nothing less than the two of them maneuvering against the Five-Shas Dragon all that time! But who could they blame? It was their own scheme to secretly harm Wei Zhao, their sneaking about, that had thrown the Five-Shas Dragon into such a rage in the first place!

But now it was finally over. Kang Jingming looked at the assembled inheritors, got to his feet, and said, "Young Sect Master Tian, how are things on your side? Did all of them receive the inheritance blessing and successfully break through to Great Perfection?"

"Elder Tang Zhi of Snow Valley did not break through to Great Perfection. The others are all fine..." At this, Tian Chan looked faintly regretful. Among them all, Tang Zhi alone had failed in her attempt to reach the Great Perfection realm.

In all likelihood, she would not be able to make another attempt anytime soon. A forced attempt carried a strong risk of qi deviation and would do her body even greater harm, so they would have to leave this place first and think it over.

"What? Tang Zhi failed!" Kang Jingming sneered inwardly. Wei Zhao might be formidable, but his girlfriends were all dregs! He looked at Tian Chan with a touch of regret. If only he had known earlier that the Young Sect Master of the Heavenly Silkworm Transformation was a woman, why would he ever have chased after Xiao Taohong? Why chase after Little Eleven? If he had just gone and groveled before Tian Chan, maybe she really would have taken a fancy to him!

Then he would have become the son-in-law of the Mystic Pill Sect, and he would have risen to glory just the same! True, things were not bad now either, and he enjoyed the favor of Ancestor Xuanchen — but Little Eleven was far inferior to Tian Chan!

Ah, the past is too painful to look back on!

Kang Jingming had no wish to linger here any longer. He feared that the Five-Shas Dragon might rest in its cave a while and then come out again, and then they would be finished. As for whether Tang Zhi broke through or not, in Kang Jingming's view it hardly mattered anymore. Zhang Naipao was already crippled; the loss of one more inheritor was no great matter. Let Ancestor Xuanchen deal with these headaches when they got back — he certainly could not!

"She failed for now. We'll think of something after we return. How are things on your side?" Tian Chan asked coolly.

Wei Zhao looked at the familiar girl in yellow before him and found it hard to connect her with the lovely young maiden he had met last time in the Five-Shas Mountains. Tian Chan back then had been a cute little girl; the Tian Chan of now was the cold, proud Young Sect Master of the Mystic Pill Sect!

Still, Tang Zhi had actually failed to advance to Great Perfection? That caught Wei Zhao somewhat by surprise. Well, they could think of something after they returned.

"On my side, every last trial-taker advanced to Great Perfection under the oppressive might of the Five-Shas qi. But Zhang Naipao is crippled..." Kang Jingming said this with some gloom. "We'll have to see when we get back whether he can be restored!"

"What?" Tian Chan was taken aback as well. She naturally knew how important Zhang Naipao was. She had not expected him to be crippled too — this really was going to be a headache to handle!

But the pressing matter at hand was to leave this place first. So Tian Chan said, "Activate the teleportation array. You take the trial-takers out first. I'll bring up the rear and escort the inheritors out!"

"Good!" Kang Jingming could not wait to be gone from this place. Being told to go first, he was overjoyed.

Following the method Ancestor Xuanchen had taught him, Kang Jingming activated the teleportation array of the Five-Shas Mountains, and then, without a thought for anyone else, he charged straight into it ahead of the rest...

Behind him, Zhong Yongliang and Zhang Naipao followed close on his heels, and then the remaining inheritors departed one by one. Wei Zhao had Han Jingyi and Wang Xinyan go ahead; he meant to wait until Tian Chan and the inheritors had all gone, and leave last himself!

These inheritors were all the people closest to him. Including Tian Chan — between her and Wei Zhao there was a tangled, hard-to-name feeling — so Wei Zhao wanted to escort them out.

Gu Mengyao, Feng Xiaoxiao, Shen Yushu, Yu Ning, Guan Xin, and Xiao Jiu all glanced at Wei Zhao as they left. Only Tang Zhi walked with her head down, looking as though a weight lay on her heart.

Once these people had departed in the company of the sect's other members, only Wei Zhao and Tian Chan remained.

Tian Chan glanced at Wei Zhao and knew he had deliberately stayed behind. She stretched languidly — the teleportation array would not close for a while once opened, so there was no rush to dive in. "You've been leveling up pretty fast. Last time I could have killed you, and now I can't..."RS
