Chapter 3626 — I'll Fight You!
But Wei Zhao, that good-for-nothing, simply couldn't be propped up. Relying on the Third Pavilion Master's backing, he not only failed to show any gratitude to Senior Brother Meng, but once he reached Mining Zone Seven he badmouthed Senior Brother Meng at every turn and managed to outrage everyone in less than two days. Senior Brother Meng, in a fit of rage, kicked Wei Zhao back to Mining Zone Ten, and now he had called everyone here precisely to watch Wei Zhao's misery on his first day back in the dead mining zone—to see whether this insolent fool still had his old dog-shit luck!
The newcomers who had climbed to the Heaven tier and beyond were naturally all shrewd operators. Never mind how much of the rumor was actually credible—they at least knew that Wei Zhao really had been shuffled back and forth between mining zones these past two days, and that Meng Jueming really was the one pulling the strings from behind the scenes. That was enough for them to draw a very important conclusion: this managing senior brother, Meng Jueming, truly had the power to turn clouds into rain and rain into clouds. Those who went along with him would prosper; those who crossed him might not necessarily perish, but their ends would certainly be wretched!
So even if some newcomers still harbored the worry that Wei Zhao might slap them all down again as he had at the beginning, in terms of stance they clung tightly to Meng Jueming. Since Senior Brother Meng wanted them to watch Wei Zhao, then they would watch him obediently—it wasn't as if they were the ones who'd be losing out.
A short while later, beneath everyone's expectant gaze, Wei Zhao's figure finally appeared on the long, shadowy Mining Zone Ten tunnel. As for the crowd gathered there, Wei Zhao showed not the slightest surprise; as always, he calmly went about the weighing and quality inspection.
"Wei Zhao: sixteen pieces of waste jade, twenty pieces of garbage jade."
The moment the quality inspection results were announced, Meng Jueming and the others couldn't help but curl their lips into mocking arcs, and the whole crowd erupted in an uproar. Even the other newcomers looked at Wei Zhao with undisguised schadenfreude. Envying those who had and mocking those who hadn't—that was the vile nature these people were born with.
Wei Zhao watched the crowd without betraying a thing. He hadn't hidden any spirit jade today, so naturally he hadn't charged the waste jade he dug up. After all, Meng Jueming and Meng Zhou had toiled in Mining Zone Ten for two days and dug up nothing, yet the moment he returned he'd unearth good jade—that would be far too suspicious. So to avoid raising doubts, he decided to play dumb for a couple of days first.
And there was another purpose behind his doing so.
"Hey, you posturing newcomer, aren't you supposed to be the legendary child of fortune? How come you don't have your dog-shit luck this time?" Meng Zhou hopped out to jeer, having waited a long time for this day. Feigning sudden realization, he cried, "Oh, I get it—you must not have stepped in dog shit on your way out this morning, that's why your dog-shit luck ran out! How pitiful! Bwahahaha!"
Hearing this, the newcomers burst into even more unrestrained laughter. Meng Zhou might not usually seem all that bright, but when it came to running his mouth and cutting people down, he really had a knack for it!
But instead of flying into a humiliated rage as everyone expected, Wei Zhao looked at Meng Zhou with a placid expression and said thoughtfully, "You know, you've actually reminded me of something. On my first day here I kicked you in the face, and my luck's been pretty good ever since. Could that be the dog-shit luck you're talking about?"
"Huh?" Meng Zhou froze, utterly bewildered. "What the hell are you talking about! What does kicking me in the face have to do with dog-shit luck?"
By now some of the newcomers had caught on—didn't that make Meng Zhou's face the dog shit? But they didn't dare laugh even though they wanted to. Cowed by Meng Jueming's authority, they could only force their mirth down, their whole bodies twitching in place!
Meng Jueming shot the crowd a livid glare, then cursed with a black face, "He's calling you dog shit in a roundabout way! You can't even catch that—you really are dumb as a rock!"
"Heh heh... Senior Brother Meng is truly wise, striking the nail on the head! Brother Meng Zhou, why don't you find a chance and let me kick you again? I'd rather like a few more rounds of dog-shit luck!" Wei Zhao said to Meng Zhou with an utterly sincere face.
"My God! You—you're the goddamn dog shit! You bastard, I'll fight you!" Only now did Meng Zhou finally understand. Seeing the newcomers covering their mouths and straining to hold back their laughter, his face flushed crimson in an instant, and in a fit of fury he charged over, ready to throw hands.
Wei Zhao simply watched him quietly, silently calculating in his heart: the moment the other's attack landed on him, he would strike back at once. This time he wouldn't let the man off as easily as last time—even if he couldn't beat him to death outright, he'd at least put him in bed for a month or so, so he wouldn't keep running over to jabber in his face!
At the same time, however, Wei Zhao noticed that many of the guards around them had already taken note of the situation, killing intent flashing in their eyes as though they might pounce the very next moment. Private fighting was strictly forbidden in the Spirit Jade Hall, and offenders were put to death—this was the first iron rule the Spirit Jade Hall had laid down!
These guards were at least early-stage Foundation Establishment experts, any one of whom could cut Meng Zhou down in an instant. And from the look of things, if Meng Zhou charged over again, these guards really would kill him.
Meng Jueming's heart lurched at the sight. For all that he had good connections in the Spirit Jade Hall, that extended only to the stewards in charge of various affairs; as for these guards, he had no ties with them at all—not because he hadn't tried to cultivate any, but because he hadn't dared. By the rules of the Spirit Jade Hall, all guards were strictly forbidden from contact with anyone else, not even the hall's own stewards. Any violation was treated as corruption and dereliction of duty—a grave crime punishable by the destruction of one's entire cultivation.
So if these guards really made a move, he likely wouldn't even get the chance to plead for Meng Zhou. Seeing this, he had no choice but to flash forward and block Meng Zhou's path before the fool could provoke a private brawl.
"You disgraceful thing, get out of my sight!" Meng Jueming barked furiously. What should have been a golden opportunity to laugh at Wei Zhao had instead, thanks to this brainless idiot's antics, left him drenched in cold sweat. Truly, more hindrance than help!
Watching the speed of Meng Jueming's earlier movement, Wei Zhao's eyelids twitched slightly. It seemed this managing senior brother was indeed no weakling—at least peak early-stage Foundation Establishment, a good notch stronger than Poor Senior Brother!
Only when the guards everywhere stopped paying attention to this side did Meng Jueming breathe a sigh of relief. Looking at Wei Zhao, he sneered, "Junior Brother Wei Zhao certainly has a sharp tongue. Pity all you can do now is wag it. Before absolute strength, what good is a sharp tongue? You still can't dig up a single piece of good jade, can you? Heh heh, there'll come a day when you're begging me!"RS
