The two hit it off at once, and with Zhen Yingjun personally leading the way, the scene now before them came to pass.
Yet no sooner had the two reached the front of the villa, before they could even break down the door, than Wu Chengtian had already barred their path, a cold sneer on his unfriendly face: "So someone's finally come knocking. I've grown sick of playing security guard."
"You one of that Wei Zhao's lackeys?" Bronze-Armor Heavenly Venerable's brows knitted; in the next instant he erupted with the full aura of a Heaven-Tier Grand Perfection, and said with utter disdain, "Get lost this instant, or I'll make your life a living hell!"
"Ho, what big talk." Wu Chengtian could not help but laugh; he too released a mighty aura of his own, and sizing the other up out of the corner of his eye, said, "A living hell—can't say I've really tasted that one. Why don't you teach me, ugly old man?"
"Heaven-Tier Grand Perfection?" Bronze-Armor Heavenly Venerable's eyelid gave a sudden twitch, and he shot Zhen Yingjun a reproachful look. It was Zhen Yingjun who had told him that Wei Zhao's underlings were weak.
And yet here he was, running straight into a Heaven-Tier Grand Perfection on the very first step!
Before coming here, Bronze-Armor Heavenly Venerable had repeatedly pressed Zhen Yingjun to confirm whether these inheritors truly lay unconscious and insensible—precisely because he feared running into a formidable foe. For he knew that every inheritor in the Cloud-Tier Island plan was a Heaven-Tier Grand Perfection adept.
But now that he had come, he found that any random underling of Wei Zhao's who popped out was a Heaven-Tier Grand Perfection. How was a man supposed to swallow that?
"Surprised, ugly old man?" Wu Chengtian snickered with a mocking grin.
Called "ugly old man" twice in a row, Bronze-Armor Heavenly Venerable at last could not keep the fury from his face. Because of the hideous blood scar running across his cheek, he loathed above all else being called ugly; every man who had ever dared say so to his face had by now left not even bones behind.
"Surprised? A little, perhaps—but it's only one Heaven-Tier Grand Perfection. You don't imagine that one-on-one you're a match for this Heavenly Venerable, do you? Don't be so utterly conceited, boy!" Bronze-Armor Heavenly Venerable sneered without cease.
Even if they were both Heaven-Tier Grand Perfection, a greenhorn like Wu Chengtian could never be a match for him, Bronze-Armor Heavenly Venerable—of that there was not the slightest doubt.
That said, Bronze-Armor Heavenly Venerable was about to strike at Wu Chengtian; one-on-one, he was absolutely certain of victory.
But at that very moment, another aura of Heaven-Tier Grand Perfection suddenly appeared before his eyes, as Qiu Lingshan stepped out from the villa: "One-on-one won't do? Then how about two-on-one?"
In an instant, Bronze-Armor Heavenly Venerable's expression turned unspeakably grim. Two Heaven-Tier Grand Perfection adepts, just casually strolling out. What the hell was going on here? Since when had Heaven-Tier Grand Perfection become so worthless!
The crux was that Qiu Lingshan was a beauty besides—and one who had walked out from inside the villa. Instinctively he took her for an inheritor, and the look he turned on Zhen Yingjun beside him instantly brimmed with lethal intent.
Didn't you say all the inheritors were unconscious? Didn't you say all Wei Zhao's underlings were a bunch of good-for-nothing rabble? Isn't this a goddamned con job!
Sensing that murderous look from Bronze-Armor Heavenly Venerable, Zhen Yingjun—already scared half out of his wits—was frightened shitless on the spot, and hastily stammered, "I—I don't know, the intelligence really did say so..."
"What's it to be, ugly old man? Are we fighting or not?" Wu Chengtian said impatiently. Had he not feared that a brawl here might spill over onto the unconscious women inside the villa, he would long since have made his move.
At the same time, Qiu Lingshan cooperatively pushed her Heaven-Tier Grand Perfection power to its utmost limit. One-on-one she might have had no confidence, but two-on-one ought to pose no problem.
Bronze-Armor Heavenly Venerable's momentum immediately flagged. He had come today for revenge, not to gamble his old life away here; the Iron-Armor Sect still needed him to rise again.
"Just you wait, this Heavenly Venerable swears it—I'll leave your heads on your necks for now. I'll collect them another day!" Having spat out this vicious threat, Bronze-Armor Heavenly Venerable promptly turned and made himself scarce.
"Bronze... Bronze-Armor Heavenly Venerable, wait for me!" Zhen Yingjun scrambled after him on all fours, terrified that Wu Chengtian and Qiu Lingshan might strike and make him stay.
Watching the two scurry off in such wretched disarray, Wu Chengtian curled his lip in contempt: "Bronze-Armor Heavenly Venerable? Where'd this clown crawl out from? Sounds like he's got something to do with the Iron-Armor Sect—but weren't they all wiped out by the leader?"
"Probably a fish that slipped through the net!" Qiu Lingshan surmised. The Iron-Armor Sect was, after all, an ancient sect with a vast house and great holdings; a few fish slipping through the net was only natural.
"So what do we do now—should we chase them?" Wu Chengtian looked to Qiu Lingshan. She was Wei Zhao's woman, which made her one of his sisters-in-law; until Wei Zhao returned, she had the greatest say.
Qiu Lingshan thought it over and said, "Forget it. If only one of us goes, they won't be a match for him; but if both of us go, someone might well take advantage and slip in here."
"Fine then. Since Sister-in-law Lingshan puts it that way, we'll let them off this once." Wu Chengtian nodded, then added, "But from the look of it, that ugly old man will come back for another round. Seems we'd better give the others a heads-up."
Once out of the villa compound, Bronze-Armor Heavenly Venerable and Zhen Yingjun cautiously kept an eye behind them; only when they saw that Wu Chengtian and Qiu Lingshan had not given chase did they breathe a sigh of relief.
"Bronze-Armor Heavenly Venerable, what do we do now?" Having been handed this baffling rebuff for no apparent reason, Zhen Yingjun had quickly learned his lesson—Heaven-Tier Grand Perfection was no longer a level he could meddle in.
"What do we do? Go back and rally our forces, of course!" Bronze-Armor Heavenly Venerable gnashed his teeth in fury. A grand elder of the Iron-Armor Sect, scared off today by two of Wei Zhao's underlings—an utter humiliation!
Zhen Yingjun's spirits lifted at once, though doubt followed: "Where do we go to rally forces? Wasn't the Iron-Armor Sect already wiped out by Wei Zhao?"
"Hmph! Even if the headquarters was destroyed, did you think my Iron-Armor Sect—a grand ancient sect—would simply be gone just like that? I won't boast of much else, but two or three Heaven-Tier Grand Perfection adepts can still be scraped together!" Bronze-Armor Heavenly Venerable snorted coldly. Others might not know the Iron-Armor Sect's true depths, but Bronze-Armor Heavenly Venerable knew them inside and out!
Though on the surface the Five Luminaries Sect was the foremost ancient sect, the Iron-Armor Sect, because it seldom had dealings with the outside world, had always been a ** hidden sect; thus, however formidable their strength, the outside world simply had no word of it at all!
Had they known, everyone would have realized that there were in fact so many Grand Perfection adepts about! Previously, seeing that the Iron-Armor Sect kept to itself and had no dealings with other sects, the Five Luminaries Sect had assumed their strength was too feeble to boast even a single Heaven-Tier Grand Perfection!
