Chapter 4158 — Go Take Your Revenge Yourself
Taking the Heart-Devouring Gu Pill, Wei Shenjin said not a word and swallowed it without the slightest hesitation. He had already accepted the resolve to become Wei Zhao's spirit familiar—how could he possibly fear such a tiny pill?
"Is this enough now? At least you needn't worry about me betraying you anymore—so can we move against that wretch Situ Qian?" Wei Shenjin had no idea what he had just swallowed, but he was certain it was something meant to control him, and so he pressed on impatiently.
"That, I'll leave for you to kill yourself," Wei Zhao said with a faint smile.
"What? Kill her myself? I'm a cripple now—how am I supposed to kill her?" Wei Shenjin was stunned for a moment; then, once it sank in, he flew into a rage, roaring with grief and helplessness alike: "You... you set me up?!"
He had staked everything on Wei Zhao now, risking even his life and his dignity—and all he got in return was a "go kill her yourself." How in the hell was he supposed to accept that!
"Heh. I never lie to people. Since I said you'd kill her yourself, then naturally I'll give you the strength to do it—why would I set you up?" Wei Zhao smiled faintly and gestured for Wei Shenjin to sit in meditation beside him. "Sit properly first. I'll help you restore your damaged meridians."
"What? Restore my meridians?" Wei Shenjin was startled at these words and instantly cast his grief and helplessness to the back of his mind, staring blankly at Wei Zhao in disbelief. "How is that possible? Don't lie to me—my meridians were shattered to pieces by you. Even a fourth-grade Great Restoration Pill and a fifth-grade Great Meridian-Unblocking Pill had no effect; otherwise I wouldn't have been reduced to a cripple. You should know that perfectly well..."
"I know. The Meridian-Unblocking Pill is indeed useless, but that doesn't mean I can't cure you. Did you know that Brother Di Xingdao's meridians were shattered just like yours—even worse than yours, in fact—and yet isn't he still hale and hearty now?" Wei Zhao said with a faint smile.
"You were the one who cured Di Xingdao?" Wei Shenjin's face went pale with shock. He stared at Wei Zhao, dumbstruck, too astonished to speak for a long while.
Di Xingdao's recovery had been a mystery across all of Central Island. No one knew who on earth had cured such an incurable ailment. Some said it was a mysterious apothecary; others said it was the fruit of Zhang Lifeng's years of painstaking study—there were all sorts of theories. Di Xingdao himself had never come forward to clarify, and everyone in the Tian Dan Pavilion kept their mouths shut about it. Wei Shenjin had never even imagined that this had come from Wei Zhao's own hands!
Had anyone else said such a thing, Wei Shenjin would have taken it for utter nonsense, the man gilding his own face—but the speaker was Wei Zhao, and he believed it without a moment's hesitation.
Were it otherwise, then given Di Xingdao's status as such a legendary figure, even if Wei Zhao was the brother-in-law he had acknowledged, why would he have gone to such lengths to protect Wei Zhao—a mere new disciple of the Threefold Pavilion of North Island?
Without answering Wei Shenjin's unspoken question, Wei Zhao simply gave his answer through action. In merely a single hour's time, Wei Shenjin discovered to his astonishment that the meridians shattered throughout his body had miraculously been restored to their original state!
"This... this is simply a miracle!" Wei Shenjin was plunged into wild joy in an instant. He had already been a cripple with all hope extinguished, a walking corpse without a future, whose sole reason to keep living was to kill that slut Situ Qian—and yet he had never expected delight to arrive so suddenly!
For a moment Wei Shenjin was so overcome that he could not even speak. He opened his mouth at Wei Zhao, yet did not know how to express his gratitude—and so, without a word, he dropped to his knees with a thud once more and knocked his head three times against the ground before Wei Zhao, each kowtow landing with a resounding thump.
"There's no need for that. Get up quickly." Wei Zhao hurried forward to help him to his feet. Though Wei Shenjin's meridians had been shattered just as Di Xingdao's had, his injuries were far lighter—not the chronic wounds accumulated over many years that Di Xingdao had suffered—so repairing them had been a light and pleasant task, costing him no great effort.
"Wei Zhao—no, Leader Wei Zhao, you are my second parent, my rebirth! These kowtows are no more than you deserve!" Wei Shenjin said with firm resolve. Never mind that Wei Zhao had already made him swallow the Heart-Devouring Gu Pill—even without it, he was not one to forget a kindness. His gratitude came from the bottom of his heart, with not a trace of playacting or pretense.
Wei Zhao smiled. Having seen countless people from the mortal realm to here, he could tell at a glance whether Wei Shenjin was sincere or feigning. Judging by this display alone, he could see that this fellow was a man of true blood and honor who repaid kindness—taking such a one as a subordinate was no loss at all.
"Leader Wei Zhao, I'll go back right now and butcher that wretch Situ Qian!" Wei Shenjin said, murderous intent surging from him, and at once he moved to take up his sword and go out the door. His meridians had only just been restored, but he was confident he could quickly recover his strength—killing Situ Qian would be as easy as turning over his hand!
"Hold on!" Wei Zhao spoke up to stop him. "If you go back and kill her just like that, then even as a core disciple of the Snow Sword Sect, you'll find it hard to escape punishment in the end!"
"Who cares!" Wei Shenjin paid no heed, raging on: "This woman brought me such utter humiliation—if I don't kill her, where is the justice in heaven? Before, I had no strength and could do nothing, so I could only drag out my days in shame. But now I can't hold back any longer. Even if I die, I'll drag that slut down to hell with me!"
"Is it worth it—dying alongside such a shameless wretch, keeping her company in the grave?" Wei Zhao regarded him coldly. "Don't forget—your life belongs to me now. I went to such great effort to heal you, and it was certainly not so you could go die together with a slut."
"But... but then what am I supposed to do, Leader Wei Zhao? I truly can't hold back!" Wei Shenjin finally calmed down a little, though he was still restless and eager.
He had already realized that he was no longer the same as before. A moment ago he had been a cripple without hope, for whom dragging Situ Qian down with him in death would have been pure gain. But now he had become once more a core disciple in the early Golden Core stage with boundless prospects—to still think of trading his life for the life of a slut like Situ Qian could only be called utterly foolish.
"Wait here for me a moment." Wei Zhao smiled, turned, and went out to prepare two kinds of medicine, then returned and placed them in Wei Shenjin's hands.
"This is... for me to poison that slut?" Wei Shenjin asked in surprise.
"Of course not. If it were merely poison, then once Situ Qian died it would still be easy enough to trace it back to you—what difference would that be from killing her outright? These two medicines I've given you are precisely targeted to the ailment. Even if Situ Qian dies in the end, I guarantee no suspicion will fall on you—without a sound, without a trace," Wei Zhao said with a smiling shake of his head.
"Targeted to the ailment? What do you mean?" Wei Shenjin was still utterly bewildered. R1152
