Chapter 4703 — True Qi Transformed
Wei Zhao laughed wordlessly at the sound of it. This Kang Jingming really never gave up—he had already been rebuffed by Huo Yudie time and again, and yet here he was, still nursing the same designs. Persistent, if nothing else.
"No need." Huo Yudie turned him down without a moment's thought. Back when she had not the faintest idea of how deep Wei Zhao's strength ran, she had chosen without hesitation to team up with him—how much more so now?
Even setting aside Wei Zhao's unfathomable power, that awkward, mortifying scene alone made it impossible for her to simply cast him aside, and even less possible to go off with a creature as obviously unreliable as Kang Jingming.
"Uh…" Kang Jingming's face fell at once. He had finally gotten his moment to swagger, so why was this fiery-bodied beauty so utterly dense? Apart from being less skilled at putting on airs, in what possible way was he inferior to a thing like Wei Zhao?
"Ha! No one can block your path, is that so? What a grand boast!" The bald man sneered coldly at the spectacle. "Strange-looking enough, I'll grant you—only a joke for people to laugh at. Folk won't even bother with you, and you still have the gall to brag?"
"What did you say?" Kang Jingming, already stewing in a bellyful of rage, sharpened at once and turned on the bald man with a hostile look.
"I said you're a joke. Devil take it, where do all these clueless fools come from?" The bald man grinned savagely. He exchanged a glance with Scarface, and at once made ready to use Kang Jingming as his opening example. This ground was theirs and theirs alone to speak on—how could they let an idiot like this go shouting and swaggering as he pleased?
But the words had scarce left his mouth; he had not even settled into a stance when a blinding white glare flashed past his eyes. At first he felt nothing amiss—then a searing agony erupted in his chest. The bald man lowered his head with difficulty, and found a great hole in his own chest.
Bang! The bald man toppled stiffly to the ground. His breath had not yet fully left him, but everyone knew he was finished. To linger even a moment in such a grievous state was a miracle in itself.
The whole assembly was stunned. Even Scarface, a ruthless, savage expert at the peak of the early Xuan Ascension stage, now looked at Kang Jingming with undisguisable shock.
He knew the bald man's strength well. The fellow had followed him for decades, and among Nascent Soul grand-completion experts his power was by no means weak—certainly no less than that Duan Wuzong of the Thousand Blades Sect. And yet this strange-looking brat had killed him in a single move. From first to last the bald man had never even had the chance to strike. Even he himself could not have done such a thing—just what sort of monster was this boy?
"True qi transformed!" someone in the crowd suddenly cried out.
"True qi transformed? Isn't that the divine art only legendary great powers can achieve? That can't be right, surely?" someone beside him immediately questioned.
"Nonsense! You saw it with your own eyes, didn't you? Could it be false? This is the legendary true qi transformed. Good heavens, we've run into a master this time!" the other retorted with a curl of his lip.
"Right, but what kind of divine weapon is that thing of his, to be able to project true qi that takes physical form? That's just brutal!" A chorus of sharp intakes of breath rose all around.
Listening to all these theories the crowd had conjured up for themselves, Kang Jingming waved his hand in smug satisfaction, and shot Wei Zhao and Huo Yudie a look of pure defiance. True qi transformed—now there was a fine bit of showmanship!
Watching Kang Jingming preen with his tail up in the air, Wei Zhao was shocked at heart, yet the surrounding chatter struck him as funny.
True qi transformed? If one put it that way, his own Five Elements Killing Qi had indeed achieved true qi transformed—but he was no legendary great power. He had merely grasped a supreme martial art belonging uniquely to the Five Venom Flood Dragon from the lingering will of a giant electric eel. As for this thing of Kang Jingming's, he truly had nothing to say.
Still, though this was not Kang Jingming's own ability, the laser cannon was truly formidable—it had felled even a Nascent Soul grand-completion expert in a single blow!
And that was in a head-on clash. If the thing were minded to hide and strike from the shadows, the threat would multiply several times over; no matter how fast one was, there would be no chance to react. He would have to deal with it carefully in future.
"Tell me, are all you people who come up from the secular world this formidable? Is he some great personage's personal disciple back on your North Island too?" Huo Yudie was as dumbstruck as everyone else. She had never truly thought Kang Jingming's strength amounted to much, but now she had seen it with her own eyes, and could not disbelieve.
"Heh, the fellow's a dead loss. Pay him no mind—that's not his own strength at all, it's purely external force," Wei Zhao said with a faint smile and a shake of his head.
"External force? You mean that bizarre-looking divine weapon of his? But the more powerful a divine weapon is, the more it demands a powerful cultivation to control it, doesn't it?" Huo Yudie said, utterly baffled.
For a cultivator, possessing a fierce, heaven-defying divine weapon did not mean one could defy heaven. One's own strength had to be a match for it; otherwise the weapon's power could never be brought out, and a single misstep might even turn it against its wielder, making one a sacrifice to the artifact.
"It's hard to explain in a sentence or two. In short, that thing is a piece of high-tech weaponry from the secular world. Whoever gets their hands on it, so long as they know how to operate it, will do about as well. Even an ordinary person could blast a Nascent Soul grand-completion expert to death with it, just as he did," Wei Zhao explained.
"Oh… so it's high-tech weaponry…" Huo Yudie nodded, half understanding, then suddenly added, "Then this sucker really is something, having even a thing like that!"
"Pfft…" Wei Zhao burst out laughing. So by virtue of a single remark of his, Kang Jingming had been equated with a sucker in this girl's eyes!
And Kang Jingming kept pressing forward time and again to curry favor with her. If he knew he had been taken for a thoroughgoing sucker, the look on his face would be a sight worth seeing.
The two of them spoke softly, and Kang Jingming did not hear. He still stood there lording it over all, basking in the long-missed sensation of every eye looking up at him. From head to toe, one word summed it up: damn, it felt good! (To be continued…)
