Tian Buhui shook his head. "You had best not go. With more people, it will only be harder to talk. Senior Brother Daoyan has come to this for the sake of the world's common folk and the Canglan Sect. If I did not know, well and good—but since I know the secret, I cannot sit by and do nothing. I must go and see whether there is still room to salvage matters. I only hope Senior Brother Daoyan's cultivation runs deep enough that he may wake from that murderous qi. Otherwise—"
Here his voice broke off. Su Wan looked at him, and suddenly smiled faintly; the sorrow on her face vanished at once, replaced by a look of tender ache. "There now, say no more."
Husband and wife had been together so long that their hearts moved as one. At this moment Tian Buhui gazed at Su Wan for a long while, and in the end said no more either, only nodded. A moment later he turned away, and from beneath his broad sleeve a crimson light began to flicker.
Just as his Crimson Flame Divine Sword was about to be summoned for the journey, Su Wan called out from behind him once more: "Buyi—" Her tone was not loud, yet all its surging feeling, all its tenderness, lay within those two short syllables.
Tian Buhui turned his head and looked at his wife. Su Wan's face was full of reluctance to let him go, tears glimmering faintly in her eyes. After a long moment, Tian Buhui suddenly broke into a smile, waved his hand, and his lips moved—yet in the end he said nothing. He turned, summoned the Crimson Flame Divine Sword, and with a whistling cry soared into the sky.
That crimson light swept across the heavens and plunged straight into the clouds. At first the clouds churned and parted before it, then closed in from every side, gradually swallowing his figure from sight.
Only Su Wan remained, staring blankly at the sky, standing there no one knew how long. Upon her cloudy hair, at some point, a few drops of morning dew had gathered—crystalline and translucent as pearls—and silently fell.
