The two jade pieces met, and though nothing seemed amiss, in an instant a strange change occurred. The originally soft white light of the Universe Reincarnation Disc blazed up in an instant, and the matter did not end there. Almost simultaneously came a ceaseless "pff-pff-pff-pff..." as one piece after another, one after another, collided and piled up. More and more jade pieces ceased their sliding, and the white radiance above the disc grew ever brighter, until at last it was ten times brighter than what Ming Li had seen in the Cold Ice Stone Chamber. It was utterly impossible to look at directly, as though the blazing sun of heaven had fallen into this tiny stone chamber and scattered its brilliance everywhere.
Xiao Hui gaped at the jade disc in its hand. Even with its innate gifts, it seemed unable to endure the piercing glare. It stepped back, its grip loosening, and the Universe Reincarnation Disc fell to the ground with a "pat."
Yet the strange phenomenon did not vanish when Xiao Hui released its finger. The jade disc continued to cast forth its dazzling, silent radiance, and within those countless rays of brilliant light, scenes of mysterious patterns slowly began to emerge.
As though scorched by fire, Xiao Hui leaped up and fled into a corner of the stone chamber, yet it seemed unable to resist its curiosity and kept turning to look back. On the bed, Ming Li seemed utterly unaware of the strange happenings in the chamber behind him, still lying motionless.
But the most astonishing and utterly unforeseen event did not, in fact, take place in this stone chamber. Far away in the depths of the earth, in the Blood Pool cavern, Mr. Ghost sat cross-legged upon the platform, eyes closed, deep in bitter thought. Above his head, suspended in midair, hung the Coiling Dragon Cauldron, and the beam of light—that dagger of ancient divine restraint—was still fixed tightly to the brow of the demonic visage on the Cauldron's body. Though it seemed faint, it persisted without cease.
It was at this very moment, unnoticed even by Mr. Ghost, that the white beam upon the Coiling Dragon Cauldron suddenly changed.
It slowly grew brighter, and as the beam brightened, the blood-red vapor that had still filled the area below the demonic visage's eyes was forced back a few more degrees, retreating to about the bridge of the nose. The bloodlight upon the demonic face swirled, and seen from afar it seemed all the more distorted, all the more hideous and furious.
As time passed, that beam of radiance seemed to be awakening, growing ever brighter, as though echoing something.
Upon the platform, Mr. Ghost's body stirred, as though he had sensed something, yet could not be certain. After a moment's hesitation, he slowly opened his eyes and raised his head to look at the Coiling Dragon Cauldron above.
