Chapter 99 — The Car Accident Brouhaha

The Blossom Guardian · Page 2 of 2

"Enough! Huiru, haven't you made enough of a scene? You know perfectly well what really happened here—you were the one who forgot to bring my father's medicine, and now you're shifting the blame onto someone else!" The middle-aged man gave a cold snort, as though he had long since had his fill of his wife.

"Fine! I've been a daughter-in-law to the Liu family all these years, and this is how you treat me!" A vicious gleam flashed through Huiru's eyes, and she reached out to claw at Wang Xinyan's face. "So you've taken a fancy to this little slut? Then I'll tear her face to shreds and see if it breaks your heart!"

"Smack!" A hand clamped tightly around Huiru's wrist, holding her fast so she could not move an inch.

"Who? Who grabbed me?" Startled, Huiru turned to look at whoever had stopped her.

"If she really did hit someone, she'll take responsibility for it." Wei Zhao gave the woman called Huiru a cold look. From her behavior and her earlier words, it was plain that her background was no ordinary one—she acted with a recklessness that bordered on utter lack of scruple.

Wang Xinyan drove a sports car, so her family must be well off, and yet this woman showed not the slightest hesitation—which made it clear she wasn't afraid of stirring up trouble. And the way she kept threatening to have the health bureau chief fired and calling the mayor proved the same thing.

Of course, it was also possible she was simply bluffing, hoping to extort more money.

"Who are you? Husband, look at this pale-faced pretty boy, daring to meddle and even lay hands on your wife! Liu Tianyi, are you going to do anything about this?" Huiru started shrieking again.

"That's enough, young man. This is none of your business, so don't get mixed up in it. Let her go—striking someone carries legal consequences!" Hearing Huiru's clamor, Liu Tianyi frowned and spoke to Wei Zhao.

"Striking someone? I was only stopping her from striking someone." Wei Zhao gave a cold laugh, but released the woman called Huiru all the same. When had he ever been afraid of anyone? But this was, after all, during a mission, and there was no telling how long he would have to stay in Songshan City—so he had no wish to invite trouble.

Liu Tianyi flushed red at Wei Zhao's words and shot his wife a furious glare. There was simply no dealing with this wife of his. Back when the Liu family had fallen on hard times, they had arranged a marriage alliance with the Zhang family, to which his wife belonged, and only with the Zhangs' support had the family's fortunes been preserved.

But his wife, emboldened by what had happened back then, threw her weight around in front of him, stripping him of every last shred of a man's dignity. Still, he reflected that she was, after all, the wife of his youth, who had borne him a handsome son and a lovely daughter, and so he endured it.

Only in recent years, as his age advanced and he found himself less and less able in the bedroom, had his wife begun to suspect he had a woman on the outside. At the slightest whisper of anything, she would weep and wail... leaving Liu Tianyi utterly helpless. Whenever he grew angry with her, she would dredge up the old business, and even go crying to his father that he had had a change of heart, which stoked a smoldering fury in him that he could not vent.

"Are you all right?" Wei Zhao released Huiru and turned to look at Wang Xinyan. The reason he had come over was that Wang Xinyan had helped him on the train as well. Though Wei Zhao had not needed the help, he still acknowledged the kindness.

"I'm fine..." Wang Xinyan shook her head... Several times she had wanted to pull out her phone and call someone over, but on second thought she let it go. This time she had slipped out of the house on the sly to go shopping. If her parents found out, they might scold her to death.
