"Ladies and gentlemen, thank you for gracing Zhang's little press conference with your presence. Everyone here is either a friend of the press or a friend from the trade — no outsiders among us. So let's skip the pleasantries and get straight to the point!" Zhang Tongtian cleared his throat and spoke.
"Chairman Zhang, just say it — we're all ready!" A reporter who had been tipped off in advance aimed his camera at the large screen in the conference room.
"Good, then I'll speak!" Zhang Tongtian nodded. "Today, I am going to expose a disgrace to our industry! This man has corrupted the morals of our trade and set a rotten example for the whole field. Tell me — what should be done with a man like that?"
"Get rid of the black sheep! Does a man like that even deserve to be in trade?" A planted industry insider stood up and declared.
"Right, Chairman Zhang, hurry up and expose him — we're all waiting! We want to see just who this man is. A creature worse than a pig or a dog like that — does he deserve to be in trade?" Another man rose to his feet and raised his arm in a shout.
In truth, only a handful of people were speaking. All of them had been primed by Zhang Tongtian beforehand. Most of the others had come purely for the spectacle and would not involve themselves in such matters.
"Good. Secretary Li, go ahead and play this recording!" Zhang Tongtian handed the camcorder in his hand to his secretary. It was the first time he had ever given the camera to his secretary — before this, he had never let anyone touch it.
For one thing, Zhang Tongtian feared the recording might circulate too early and lose its power to threaten Sun Jingyan. Once it was out there, Sun Jingyan would naturally never agree to his demands.
For another, he did not trust those around him. He was afraid Sun Jingyan might buy off someone close to him and have the recording deleted — and then all the effort he had spent hiring a private investigator to capture it would be for nothing.
So it was only at this moment that Zhang Tongtian finally brought out the camera.
"Everyone, please watch the video!" After Secretary Li hooked the camcorder up to the large television in the conference room, Zhang Tongtian gestured for them to look.
From the television, the sound of a man and a woman moaning suddenly burst forth...
Many televisions emit sound before the picture appears — the image always lags about a second behind the audio. So everyone found it strange. What kind of video was this? Zhang Tongtian was puzzled too. When he had watched this video himself, there had been no such sound, had there?
As everyone stood there bewildered, two stark-naked figures appeared on the screen — the man hefty, the woman plump. But wait — why did that man look so familiar?
Every eye in the room fell on Zhang Tongtian. Because the man in the video was Zhang Tongtian himself!
Sun Jingyan spat inwardly, lowered her head, and could not quite bring herself to look at the screen — yet inside she was delighted beyond measure. The date on the video was last night, precisely when Wei Zhao had gone to steal the memory card.
And Wei Zhao had said he had played around with the camera for a while — so this must be footage he had casually recorded!
Though she was still a little annoyed at Wei Zhao's sudden high-handedness the day before, today Sun Jingyan was unquestionably elated. Her chest felt wonderfully cleared of its pent-up fury.
Zhang Tongtian was utterly humiliated today! Like everyone else, he stood frozen for a long moment, then his face flushed crimson. "Secretary Li? What is this? What utter rubbish — what are you playing?"
"Chairman Zhang, this is the camcorder you gave me. I connected it straight to the television..." Secretary Li wore a look of utter innocence.
