Chapter 295 — Given Away, Taken Back

"Mm..." Guan Xin was a nurse herself and naturally knew how serious her injury was. In truth it was only a scrape of skin, nothing at all.
After applying the medicine, Guan Xin was taken away by the police to give a statement. As for Wei Zhao, Qiu Lingshan hesitated for a long while and still could not bring herself to go find him for a statement. After all, was he not coming to find her that afternoon to register the car? She could take his statement then.
On the way back to Xiaofen's ward, Wei Zhao reached for Tang Zhi's hand, but she wriggled away with a touch of coyness.
"When are you going to make good on it?" Wei Zhao asked with a grin.
"Make good on what?" Tang Zhi blinked, slightly taken aback.
"That kiss you owe me," Wei Zhao said.
"We'll talk about it next time!" Tang Zhi shot him a look. The little courage she had mustered had long since been scared out of her by the whole Guan Xin affair, so where was she supposed to find the nerve to kiss Wei Zhao now?
"Then how about I kiss you?" Wei Zhao knew full well why Tang Zhi had been so sullen the whole way back.
"Drop dead!" Tang Zhi would of course have none of it.
"Heh..." Wei Zhao was in no hurry. He walked with Tang Zhi into the ward and glanced at the time. It was nearly the hour for the afternoon classes.
Kang Xiaofeng was saying his goodbyes to Xiaofen. As for accompanying Kang Xiaofeng to his family banquet over the weekend, Xiaofen still had not made up her mind. She needed time to think it over.
Kang Xiaofeng did not press her. He only asked her to give him an answer once she had thought it through.
The four of them left the hospital together and hailed a taxi at the entrance. Wei Zhao got off near the villa district; he had already told Kang Xiaofeng and Tang Zhi that he had to go register a license plate that afternoon.
Cutting class had long since become second nature to Wei Zhao, and none of them paid it any mind anymore. Tang Zhi could do nothing about it either. Young Master Lin was simply that sort of student, and expecting him to sit quietly in school and study was simply impossible.
Wei Zhao drove the old, unlicensed van all the way to the criminal investigation squad of Songshan City Police Station. As luck would have it, he did not run into any traffic police, or he would have had to call Qiu Lingshan again.
Qiu Lingshan sat in her office feeling somewhat vexed. Liu Bojia had received every possible emergency treatment, yet he had still not passed the critical stage. He was now being kept alive by a ventilator, and no one knew when he might wake up.
The clue that had only just emerged in the madman murderer's mass-killing case was about to fall apart just like that. The pressure on Qiu Lingshan was immense, and it made her wonder whether she was truly fit for the job she was doing.
When Wei Zhao arrived, Qiu Lingshan did not offer any cutting remarks. Wei Zhao was a man Qiu Lingshan truly did not dare to offend too greatly. In the past, cracking cases had depended on Yang Huaijun; now, it was basically all on Wei Zhao.
Qiu Lingshan could not help but think, why was she such a useless piece of work? Could she not solve a single case without relying on others? It was a self-contradictory state of mind; much as she thought this way, she was utterly powerless to change it.
After copying down the chassis number and engine number of the old van, Qiu Lingshan simply phoned the vehicle administration office and looked up the van's information. The registered owner of the van turned out, surprisingly enough, to be the boss of a dealership in the secondhand car market.
A quick phone call was all it took for Qiu Lingshan to confirm that the van was not stolen. Rather, Black Panther had bought it specially a while back for his crimes, paying ten thousand yuan and driving it away first, telling the dealership owner he would come by in a few days to transfer the title.
