"I wonder if Mr. Gu is home?" Once inside, An Liwen ventured another probing question.
"Who exactly are you here to see?" Wei Zhao looked at An Liwen with contempt. "Uncle Chu doesn't live here. If you want him, go to his company!"
"Oh? He doesn't live here anymore..." An Liwen had genuinely wanted to ask where Gu Pengzhan was — before he went abroad, Gu Pengzhan had been living with Gu Mengyao.
Wei Zhao paid him no mind either, stepping into the villa first and leaving An Liwen to follow along behind. As for the gifts in his hands, Wei Zhao had no interest in taking them — who knew who they were even meant for?
By then Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu had already come downstairs. Seeing An Liwen behind Wei Zhao, they were rather surprised as well.
"Jianwen, what brings you here?" Gu Mengyao did not much care for An Liwen. The An Liwen of this moment no longer carried the feel of the boy-next-door brother from childhood; there was an indescribable gloom about him that made her uncomfortable.
"Ha ha, last time at the restaurant in the amusement park, I was so grateful to you and Mr. Lin, so I made a special trip to thank you in person!" An Liwen, grinning, set the gifts in his hands down on the coffee table in the villa's living room.
They were all foreign nutritional supplements, a jumble of this and that, though by no means did they look like things meant for young people. Wei Zhao guessed that perhaps these were bought specifically to call on Gu Pengzhan — except that Gu Pengzhan no longer lived here.
"Jianwen, since when did you become so insincere? You never used to do things like this." Gu Mengyao spoke blandly. She felt the distance between herself and An Liwen growing ever wider, the old sibling affection gone for good. "Or is it that if I fell ill, you would just stand by and do nothing?"
"Ha ha, then that makes me vulgar, doesn't it!" An Liwen too felt he had been a little thoughtless — without even finding out where Gu Pengzhan was living now, he had recklessly come charging to the door. These things truly were not suitable gifts for Gu Mengyao, but he had already carried them here, and taking them back would be even more improper. "Still, these are all things I brought back from abroad — just something new to try."
"Ooh! Yao-yao, these things must be worth a lot, right? How about we sell them?" Shen Yushu eyed the pile of foreign gifts on the coffee table with curiosity...
"Xiaoshu!" Gu Mengyao shot her a look. Even if you don't like An Liwen, you can't be this rude to his face, can you?
The corners of An Liwen's mouth twitched twice. With Shen Yushu he was utterly helpless — he could not afford to provoke her, and she was Gu Mengyao's closest friend besides, so he dared not offend her either.
"Hee hee..." Shen Yushu laughed, paid An Liwen no further attention, and turned on the television to watch it on her own. The atmosphere in the villa abruptly turned a little chilly.
"You two talk. I'm going back to my room." Wei Zhao stood up and headed for his own room. Wasting words on this An Liwen was a waste of time!
Watching Wei Zhao rise and walk toward the room on the ground floor, An Liwen's eyes flickered with a strange light. "Mr. Lin lives downstairs?"
