Wei Zhao stretched lazily and gave Tang Zhi a call. The voice on the other end was still the recorded message telling him the phone was off. Wei Zhao shook his head helplessly. He had no idea whether Tang Zhi had seen the text message he had sent her.
He went to wash his face, and the phone on the bed began to ring. Wei Zhao thought it was Tang Zhi calling back, but when he picked it up and looked, it was Feng Xiaoxiao.
Wei Zhao frowned. He had not intended to answer, but Feng Xiaoxiao's persistence was remarkable — she called once, then called again. Wei Zhao had no choice but to pick up impatiently. "What is it?"
"Why are you so fierce with me?" Hearing the impatience in Wei Zhao's voice, Feng Xiaoxiao felt a little wronged. What did he mean by that? He spoke softly and gently to everyone else, but with her he took this sort of tone!
"Is there something or isn't there?" Wei Zhao ignored her. "If there's nothing, I'm hanging up!"
"There is... don't hang up, there is something! Really, there is!" Feng Xiaoxiao was startled and hurried to steady Wei Zhao first, while her mind raced desperately for a reason to be calling him...
"If there's something, then say it." Wei Zhao suppressed the urge to hang up.
"Where are you?" Feng Xiaoxiao asked.
"At a hotel." Wei Zhao said. "Anything else?"
"Yes, there's more..." Feng Xiaoxiao was so anxious that sweat beaded on her forehead. "Which hotel are you staying at?"
"Does that have anything to do with your business?" Wei Zhao countered. "Do you actually have something to say or not?"
"I do! That... my dad wants to see you! You met him before, at the auction, remember..." Feng Xiaoxiao truly could not think of any other reason, so on a sudden inspiration she blurted out the first excuse that came to mind.
"Your dad? Looking for me?" Wei Zhao was taken aback. But he did not doubt Feng Xiaoxiao's words, because he and Feng Tianlong already knew each other — they had even carried out a mission together — so it really was possible that Feng Tianlong was looking for him. Only, if Feng Tianlong wanted to find him, why have Feng Xiaoxiao make the call? Couldn't he have called himself?
And besides, he had already given Feng Tianlong a look and a gesture. As an agent of solid caliber, could Feng Tianlong really have failed to see that he did not want his identity exposed? Why would he still come looking for him?
Even if he wanted to meet privately, that would be one thing — but to send Feng Xiaoxiao to find him? Feng Tianlong was not the sort to do something so reckless of the consequences, surely?
"Yes..." Feng Xiaoxiao had only blurted out that excuse a moment ago, and now she found it hard to cover up the lie! That was right — what would her father want with Wei Zhao? Feng Xiaoxiao's brain whirred at top speed, and at last she had it!
"I told my dad that you're my boyfriend, so he wants to meet you..." Feng Xiaoxiao said, a little bashfully.
"Ga?" Wei Zhao nearly threw the phone away. You can eat whatever you like, but you cannot say whatever you like! She had told Feng Tianlong that he was Feng Xiaoxiao's boyfriend? Wei Zhao understood all at once — no wonder Feng Tianlong wanted to meet him. Any father who heard his daughter had a boyfriend would want to size the man up, especially in his case, since he and Feng Tianlong already knew each other. Feng Tianlong was probably wondering how on earth he had ended up with his daughter!
"Wei Zhao... which hotel are you at? I'll come find you?" Feng Xiaoxiao said to Wei Zhao in a soft, gentle voice.
"Uh... forget it. Where are you? I'll come find you?" Wei Zhao was a little speechless. This really was something he had to go and explain clearly to Feng Tianlong, or things could get seriously messy!
