Chapter 532 — You're Not Sick

The other was from the Yu family. The Yu family watched the lively bidding in the auction hall with cold eyes. The person who closed a deal today would surely regret it tomorrow, wouldn't they? To spurn goods already in hand and insist on buying a pre-sale item instead! Yet the Yu family could not say a word about it.
The most puzzled pair of all were Fatty Lai and Guan Xuewen. Fatty Lai had never expected Divine Doctor Kang to come up with a wound medicine of his own too, and it left him thoroughly glum: "Boss, could the Kang family have seen through our plan? Why else would they pull an auction like this? Did someone from the Yu family leak word of us?"
"No." Wei Zhao smiled faintly. "I know which formula they're holding."
"Oh? Boss, you're saying you know their formula?" Fatty Lai started. "Then our formula — it's different from theirs?"
"Different. His is very expensive; it's made entirely from rare and precious herbs, while mine is quite ordinary." Wei Zhao smiled. "The reason they want to buy the thousand-year snow lotus must be to brew this so-called beautifying, muscle-nourishing wound medicine! The thousand-year snow lotus is an indispensable ingredient in it!"
"So that's it — no wonder they'd fight for it even at a hundred million!" Fatty Lai nodded in sudden enlightenment. "Had I known, I'd have bid a little higher just now and played them to death!"
"Haven't we already played them hard enough?" Wei Zhao regarded the wooden box in his hand with amusement and smiled faintly. "Twenty million. Worth it."
Judging by the box's appearance, it was indeed unmistakably made of ten-thousand-year springwood, but what exactly ten-thousand-year springwood was good for, and how to use it, Wei Zhao did not know. He had only seen it described in an ancient medical text, and had merely glanced at that page back then without reading closely, so what he remembered was very little.
"Praise me, quick! That was my doing!" Feng Xiaoxiao suddenly cut in.
"Ha, I'll send you a deluxe edition bottle of our wound medicine later — about the same as his." Wei Zhao felt he ought to show some appreciation; after all, Feng Xiaoxiao had played a large part in securing the ten-thousand-year springwood box.
"Boring. I don't need to get rid of scars." Feng Xiaoxiao did have scars on her body, but to her they hardly mattered. She was someone on the verge of death — what did she care for such outward things? With that time, she would rather play at something else. Then she grew curious. "Wei Zhao, what did you mean just now? Fatty Lai's formula — you gave it to him?"
At Feng Xiaoxiao's words, Wei Zhao knew he had let something slip. Having her here really was a nuisance; it made it awkward even to talk with Fatty Lai.
"Don't breathe a word of this to anyone," Wei Zhao said, glancing at her, his tone mild.
"Then let me be your girlfriend! That way you won't have to worry about me leaking secrets!" Feng Xiaoxiao giggled, delighted at having caught him by the weak spot.
"Go ahead and tell them, then." Wei Zhao shrugged indifferently. Though he took no part in the affairs of the pharmaceutical company, plenty of people knew that he was the man behind it, so he was not afraid of Feng Xiaoxiao knowing either.
"You—!" Feng Xiaoxiao was furious. "Fine, don't tell me, then. But you tell me this: you know medicine?"
"A little." Wei Zhao did not bother to deny it any longer.
"That life-extending, toxin-expelling pill from yesterday — could you give me one?" Feng Xiaoxiao looked at Wei Zhao with some hope. Though she had given up all hope for her illness, who was willing to die? Hearing the auctioneer describe that life-extending, toxin-expelling pill as a wonder beyond words, one that could even cleanse the marrow and purge the bones, it had sounded simply like a miracle elixir. Could it perhaps improve her constitution?
"It's gone," Wei Zhao said with a shrug. "What do you want it for?"
"To take, of course!" said Feng Xiaoxiao.
