"What's wrong with it? Brother Arrow belongs to Sister Yao-yao in the first place. Who told him to go around philandering?" Shen Yushu did not think there was anything wrong with what she had done.
"Oh!" Gu Mengyao gave a faint sigh. In truth, she did not know whether what they had just done was right or wrong; it had seemed to come from instinct, and yet also to have been provoked into it.
Over on the other side, Tang Zhi had been drawn aside by Liu Xinlan, who several times opened her mouth only to stop herself. After all, this was hardly the time to ask Tang Zhi about her relationship with Wei Zhao—Wei Zhao's condition was still unknown, and Tang Zhi was beside herself with worry. How could she have the heart to discuss such things?
That quarrel with Shen Yushu just now had been nothing but a defense of her dignity, and at this moment Tang Zhi plainly had no mind for anything else.
Seeing that everyone was standing at the door of Wei Zhao's room, and that this would never do, Fatso Lai and his wife dragged over four sofas and told them to sit down first.
Time slipped by, second by second, and there was not a sound from the room where Wei Zhao lay. Tang Zhi wanted to go and look in on him, yet feared to disturb him—and Gu Mengyao felt exactly the same.
"Sister Yao-yao, I'm hungry." Shen Yushu heard her stomach growling; she wanted something to eat.
"Just bear with it a little longer. Once Wei Zhao wakes up, the three of us will go home together and have a meal!" As she said this, Gu Mengyao was not quite sure what had come over her; she deliberately raised her voice so that Tang Zhi could hear it from where she stood.
"Sounds good, but I want to eat what Brother Arrow makes. His cooking is the best!" Shen Yushu chimed in, playing along with Gu Mengyao.
"Doesn't he make us breakfast every day? He's injured today, so we'll let him off." Gu Mengyao said it with unmistakable smugness. Then she caught herself: when had she become so vain? She had never been one for showing off before, had she?
Listening to the two of them, Tang Zhi burned with indignation. What gave them the right to have him cook for them? She could not hold back. "Liu Xinlan, have you ever tried the roast chicken wings Wei Zhao makes? They're delicious, and he even gave me the recipe! The barbecue at my house now is all made from the recipe Wei Zhao gave me! Oh, and he's made shark meat for me too. You've had that as well, haven't you?"
Liu Xinlan sighed. Yun-yun, oh, Yun-yun, now you've started fighting over a man too! You're heaven's favored daughter, the loveliest of the three of us... but then, look at Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu. Which of them was not lovely?
"Shark meat? We've had that too. In fact, Brother Arrow and I caught that shark together!" Shen Yushu cut in.
"Hmph!" Tang Zhi did not quite believe it and gave a little snort.
Still, now that the conversation had turned to food, Tang Zhi realized she was a little hungry, and so was Liu Xinlan. Fat Lai, quick-witted as ever, came over and said, "Ladies, you must all be hungry. Let me have my wife fix something to eat. You're worried about the boss, sure, but you can't go and ruin your health over it; otherwise the boss will be heartbroken."
