Chapter 669 — There's a Way

The Blossom Guardian · Page 1 of 2

He himself was a cultivator, and both in constitution and in willpower he was far tougher than an ordinary person, so he could withstand the acupuncture purge. The so-called purge by needle worked by using acupuncture to drive the true qi throughout the body, gathering the poison into one place with that qi and finally expelling it in the urine. The process was agonizing in the extreme, and it placed brutally strict demands on the recipient's physical stamina; if the qi faltered and gave out midway, the poison could turn back on the body and kill the patient.

For an ordinary person, there was simply no way to attempt it. The true qi within a common body was pitifully scant, as different from a cultivator's as heaven from earth, and that thin trickle was nowhere near enough to drive the poison out.

Of course, an ordinary poison, or a slow-acting one, posed no real threat to life; even if it had to be purged, it would not take much true qi, and guiding it out with acupuncture or massage alone could get the job done.

But Gu Mengyao was an ordinary person, and the poison in her was enough to kill. Wei Zhao did not dare gamble on this method. Otherwise—if it came to that, could he simply keep pouring energy into Gu Mengyao's body, life support that never stopped, and then take her to see the old man? Surely the old man would have a way.

Hm? A sudden flash of inspiration struck Wei Zhao! Feed her energy—the energy in his own body could be used by Gu Mengyao. Which meant he could channel energy into her body and perform the acupuncture purge at the same time!

And Gu Mengyao's true qi would be drawn from his own body. As long as he kept sending it in a steady stream, there would be no danger of the qi running dry.

At that thought, Wei Zhao was delighted. In the end it still came back to his own energy—and for that he owed thanks to Old Jiao, Jiao Yazi. Without him, Wei Zhao would never have known that the true qi he cultivated could be of such use.

Yet his joy was quickly followed by a dilemma. After all, the acupuncture purge required all the patient's clothes to be removed—and the eldest young mistress was not his girlfriend. If it were Tang Zhi, that would have been one thing, but would the young mistress agree?

Besides, he could not very well sneak in while Gu Mengyao was unconscious and undress her. The purge could only work if she was awake and cooperating.

"Grandpa Guan, may I trouble you to speak with the hospital? I need a fully sealed ward. I will be performing acupuncture, and I need absolute silence—not the slightest disturbance," Wei Zhao said after a moment's thought.

Part of it was genuine fear of interruption; the other part was that if Gu Mengyao had to undress, no one else could be allowed to see her. That too required a sealed ward.

"No problem!" Guan Xuewen nodded. If the First Hospital was a public-private partnership, where his word carried somewhat less weight, the Second Hospital was wholly private: his son Guan Xiaopeng was its largest shareholder, and even the director had to answer to him. Setting aside Guan Xuewen's prestige in medical circles, even as an ordinary man his word carried weight in this hospital.

Guan Xuewen called the director directly, and in short order a ward was cleared out in the emergency department—a fully sealed operating room.

Medical staff soon wheeled Gu Mengyao inside. Gu Pengzhan, Qing Bo, and Guan Xuewen all tactfully stayed outside. Guan Xuewen was curious about Wei Zhao's acupuncture technique, but since Wei Zhao had said he must not be disturbed, he had no choice but to give up the idea of watching.

"I'm staying with Sister Yaoyao!" Shen Yushu had no intention of leaving, and darted into the operating room.

"Xiaoshu, don't get in the way while Wei Zhao performs the needles—come out at once!" Gu Pengzhan knew how close Shen Yushu and his daughter were, but at a time like this he had to assert his authority as an elder and keep her from disrupting Wei Zhao.
