Chapter 714 — Nothing to Worry About?

Under everyone's astonished stares, Li Dilei felt thoroughly humiliated. The people in the hospital were looking at him as though he were some kind of freak — after all, he was covered head to toe in silver needles, like a hedgehog. Anyone who did not know the truth would have thought something terrible had happened to him.
Li Dilei did not dare linger. He went straight to the surgical clinic. He was a man of the underworld, and among his men there was no shortage of those who had gotten hurt brawling with others, so he was well acquainted with the surgeons here.
"Brother Wang, save me — quick, take a look at these needles in me!" Li Dilei spotted a familiar face: Dr. Wang from the surgical department, who was on fairly good terms with him.
Dr. Wang happened to have nothing on his hands, and when he saw Dilei walk in he was visibly taken aback. He could not help asking in puzzlement, "Boss Li, what's happened to you? Did you go for acupuncture?"
"Acupuncture, my ass! I got stuck by someone!" Li Dilei was speechless with frustration; the mere thought of Wei Zhao made his teeth itch with rage. "That guy told me not to pull them out, said I'd die if I did. So I came straight to the hospital. Dr. Wang, you've seen plenty in your time — take a look for me, will you?"
"Die if you pull them out?" It was the first Dr. Wang had ever heard of such a thing. A few silver needles stuck in the body — nothing happened when they went in, so how could pulling them out kill a man? Alarmist nonsense, surely. Dr. Wang did not quite believe it, but Li Dilei had spoken with such conviction that he did not dare treat it lightly. "I've never seen anything like it. How about I fetch the head of our department to take a look at you?"
"That... that works too. Sorry for the trouble, Brother Wang." Li Dilei felt this was rather embarrassing and did not want too many people to know about it, but when his life was at stake, he could hardly afford to care about that anymore.
After a while, Dr. Wang brought over an old man, who examined Li Dilei but could make nothing of it either. He saw nothing peculiar about the silver needles. If the needles had been poisoned, Li Dilei would already be dead — whether they were pulled out or not would make no difference at all.
And if they were not poisoned, then pulling them out could not possibly kill him. The needles were only inserted into the shallow layers beneath the skin, not even touching the internal organs. How could removing them cause death?
Still, the old man was no fool. Now that he understood Li Dilei's situation, he was careful not to commit himself: "Personally, I see no problem. We can pull them out for you. But if something does happen after they're removed, our hospital will not be held responsible."
"This..." Li Dilei's confidence suddenly faltered. He had assumed that a few tiny silver needles would be no trouble at all to remove in a hospital, but now even the hospital's senior specialist said he could not be sure. Did he dare have them pulled?
With no other choice, Li Dilei called Li Cihua's number once again.
"Cousin, I'm at the hospital! But the people here say that if they pull the needles and something goes wrong, they won't take responsibility!" Li Dilei said, panic creeping into his voice. "Brother, help me think of something — what am I supposed to do?"
Li Cihua had not expected his cousin to be such a spineless fool, but hearing how serious it sounded, he could hardly wash his hands of it.
"Wait a bit. I'll come over and take a look right now!" Li Cihua asked which hospital Li Dilei was in and which ward, then headed over.
When Li Cihua saw Li Dilei, he too was startled by the sight. Was this not a hedgehog? How was he covered in spines from head to toe?
"The hospital can't pull them out either?" Li Cihua looked over the silver needles on Li Dilei's body and saw nothing particularly alarming about them.
