"All right, if there's nothing else, I'm leaving. Our hospital has limited resources and can't stock Divine Doctor Kang's Golden Wound Medicine. You'd better bring your own." With that, Guan Xin turned and walked out of the ward. By now she was certain: Kang Jingming was making a fuss over nothing and had deliberately sent Wang Shubin to fetch her. All that talk about no one looking after him was pure nonsense.
Kang Jingming lay on the hospital bed somewhat despondently. Why was he so unlucky? He had thought that once he dealt with Xiaofen, he could pursue Guan Xin smoothly. But now it seemed Guan Xin had a rather poor impression of him!
"Damn it, why is my luck so bad?" Kang Jingming cursed resentfully.
"Young Master Ming, I think it's because Guan Xin has already grown suspicious!" Wang Shubin knitted his brows and said cautiously. "When I went to find her earlier, she said to me very mockingly, 'Has the wound on your hand flared up again?' Clearly she doesn't quite believe in such coincidences — you getting sick and going to the hospital every day, with the timing so close together..."
"That's true!" Kang Jingming nodded. Thinking it over carefully, he really had been falling ill a bit too often lately. It was hard to avoid arousing suspicion! Any normal person would find it unbelievable! Yet Kang Jingming could not voice his misery: the previous two times had indeed been self-inflicted, but this time he had genuinely been injured in an accident!
Still, the lesson of the boy who cried wolf was a profound one, and now Guan Xin didn't believe him anymore! No matter how badly Kang Jingming was injured, in Guan Xin's eyes it was all an act, and there was nothing he could do about it!
"Young Master Ming, if this won't work, why don't we change tactics?" Wang Shubin said after a moment's hesitation.
"Change tactics? Change to what?" Kang Jingming grew somewhat irritated. "Then I'll have been injured for nothing? If this pain is so great, why don't you try it yourself?"
"Well... what to change to, we'll have to think about, but the current situation is that you're injured and Guan Xin doesn't believe it!" Wang Shubin said with a bitter smile.
Kang Jingming deflated at once. That was true — what good was suffering for nothing? Guan Xin didn't believe him now, she was already suspicious. If he kept at it, it would clearly backfire. It seemed he really would have to change his strategy!
But what strategy should he change to? Kang Jingming felt that all his old tricks for picking up women were useless now! Before, all he'd had to do was send flowers, spout sweet talk, put on a bit of a show of wealth, and take a girl shopping — she'd fall right into his hands!
But Guan Xin clearly was not buying any of it. The flowers were sent, and they had no effect; sweet talk seemed to leave her cold; and as for putting on airs, that went without saying. Guan Xin's family was comfortably off, so she certainly would not be short of the little money he had to buy her things.
"How about this — you go online and have a look, see if there are any good moves?" Kang Jingming had heard that plenty of idle fellows on the internet shared their woman-chasing experience in forums, but he himself rarely went online, and had no idea whether such a thing actually existed.
"That'll work too. I'll take a look in a bit!" Wang Shubin nodded. "See if there are any good methods. Though I have a feeling, Young Master Ming, that what you're lacking right now is a common topic with Guan Xin — when the two of you are together, there's nothing to talk about!"
"True enough. But she's a nurse — surely you're not suggesting I become a nurse too?" Kang Jingming frowned.
