Chapter 817 — Three Diamond Cards

The Blossom Guardian · Page 1 of 2

"I think so?" Wei Zhao began rummaging through his wallet.

The guard blinked. He thought so? Well — was it or wasn't it? Yet though he was puzzled, he showed no trace of disdain, which said a good deal about how well the Gu Group trained its employees.

Gu Mengyao found it rather amusing. Even if Wei Zhao had no VIP card, one phone call to Uncle Qing would have gotten him in — to say nothing of the fact that he did have a membership card. But one glance at Gou Huli in the distance told her exactly what Wei Zhao was up to: he was deliberately stringing that woman along for a little fun.

Sure enough, when Gou Huli saw Wei Zhao, after the guard's inquiry, begin "putting on an act" of searching for his membership card, she found it utterly hilarious. She got out of her car and came waddling over toward the barrier.

The heavy makeup on Gou Huli's face had been washed clean away by the earlier blast from Gu Mengyao's and Shen Yushu's water pistols, and in the car she had been forced to wipe it all off with wet wipes. With no makeup to conceal it, the marks of time on her face were laid bare for all to see — she was already past thirty, no longer young. But she had been the other woman who clawed her way into a wealthy family and got herself made legitimate, and so she carried within her an indescribable sense of superiority, the smugness of a sparrow that had shot up overnight into a phoenix. She was forever trying to show that she was different from the rest.

"What are you looking for? Your membership card for this place, is it?" Gou Huli watched Wei Zhao fumbling about with a cold sneer, then turned to the parking lot guard. "Don't wait for him to finish. Just chase him out of here! I've seen plenty of these types — no money and no class, but they still want to come out and put on a show. He'll rummage around for ages, then tell you he left his membership card at home, then drive off coolly as if nothing happened! The truth is, he doesn't have a membership card at all!"

The guard was speechless. Whether the man had a card or not, what business was it of yours? Weren't you two strangers? You run your mouth like this, and if he gets out of that car and clocks you one, am I supposed to stop him or not?

True, the guard had seen people who had forgotten their cards before, but toward them he always kept a respectful manner — who was to say whether they had really forgotten it or not?

"I think I left it at home," Wei Zhao said with a shrug, looking at the guard apologetically.

"Ha!" Hearing Wei Zhao's words, Gou Huli burst out laughing. "Wahahaha! Guard, what did I tell you? They don't have membership cards, do they? I told you ages ago that they came here to put on a show, not because they really have cards. I told you to chase them out, and you didn't believe me. Well? Was I wrong? Don't be fooled by the fact that the three of them drove up in a car — the truth is, they're low-class people. The man in front is a gardener; the two women behind are nannies. They're all slaves and servants — how could they come shopping in a classy place like this?"

"Oh, I think my membership card might be above the sun visor in the passenger seat. Let me have a look?" Shen Yushu, being small, leaned her body through from the back seat and began searching above the passenger-side sun visor.

But Gu Mengyao pulled a membership card from her purse and handed it to the guard, saying with a smile, "Just swipe mine."

Gu Mengyao had seen that Wei Zhao's wallet clearly did contain a membership card — he had simply claimed not to find it, which meant he was toying with Gou Huli, luring her out of her car to spout her nonsense. So Gu Mengyao had no qualms about producing her own card to give Gou Huli a slap in the face.
