"He's not going to come after me too, is he?" Wei Zhao had not forgotten that Feng Tianlong wanted to see him. He had never doubted that Feng Xiaoxiao was lying—after all, he knew Feng Tianlong personally. As far as Wei Zhao could see, now that Feng Tianlong had learned of the relationship between him and his daughter, the man would surely summon him for a talk, especially since they had known each other before.
But the last time he spoke with Feng Xiaoxiao, she had said that Feng Tianlong had business to attend to, so Wei Zhao had not waited around. He knew the nature of Feng Tianlong's work well enough—one departure could mean a day, or ten days, half a month, even a year or more. How could Wei Zhao find the time to keep waiting? Besides, the young lady here had gotten herself into trouble.
"Yes, he wants to see you again!" Feng Xiaoxiao nodded, but when she saw that Wei Zhao seemed utterly unfazed, she found it rather strange. "Hey, why aren't you scared at all? My dad knows about us!"
"Oh." Wei Zhao answered mildly. "What is there about us?"
"Well, I showed him the photos anyway. What do you think he takes us for?" Feng Xiaoxiao shot back—a question in earnest.
"Heh..." Wei Zhao merely smiled and said nothing more. He was sure Feng Tianlong knew his daughter's character well enough; a few words of explanation from Wei Zhao would clear things up. After all, he and Feng Tianlong had worked together, and the man knew what kind of person he was. If anything really had happened between him and Feng Xiaoxiao, he would not have denied it.
"Can't you at least be a little nervous?" Feng Xiaoxiao was struck by a sudden sense of defeat. Other people's boyfriends were always jittery the first time they met their girlfriend's parents, yet Wei Zhao did not treat this as anything at all—which clearly meant he did not treat her as anything at all either! Feng Xiaoxiao felt thoroughly glum.
She waved her fist. Romance was not yet won; she must still strive! She refused to believe that with her looks, Wei Zhao would never take the bait. Hmph—no matter how cunning the fox, it cannot escape a hunter who hounds it twenty-four hours a day!
"When shall we meet?" Wei Zhao asked.
"I don't know. If you agree, I'll call my dad, and he'll get in touch with you," Feng Xiaoxiao said.
"All right, then have him set a time. I'll call on him at his door," Wei Zhao said with a nod.
Feng Xiaoxiao's return caused no great stir. It was senior year, and people came and went in the class all the time—that was perfectly normal. Some boarding students went back to their original schools, some repeat students arrived to study here, some students with no hope for the college entrance exam had already struck out on their own, and some pampered rich kids who never had to worry about their futures still skipped class every day and drifted along in style. Zou Ruoming was one of them.
After Wei Zhao and Feng Xiaoxiao returned to school, he parted ways with her to go find Tang Zhi. Feng Xiaoxiao had wanted to talk with Wei Zhao a while longer, and could not help feeling a little sulky. She sat in the classroom, idly flipping through a book, and she did not even know whether she could hold out until college. So Feng Xiaoxiao had little interest in studying either—and even if she failed to get into a university, with her father Feng Tianlong's connections, getting her enrolled somewhere would be no problem at all.
"Xiaoxiao, you're back? Where did you disappear to for a while?" Zhong Yongliang, seeing that Feng Xiaoxiao had returned, sat down beside her—in Wei Zhao's seat.
"Oh, I took a trip..." Feng Xiaoxiao glanced at Zhong Yongliang. "By the way, while I was away, did you all do anything to Wei Zhao?"
"Do anything to Wei Zhao..." Zhong Yongliang's expression changed at once, and then he said, "Xiaoxiao, actually, the reason I came over is to persuade you to give it up. Let's stop going after Wei Zhao..."
