Chapter 1035 — I Miss You

The Blossom Guardian · Page 1 of 2

What were these people running for, anyway? Where had they run to? What was their purpose? The whole string of questions gave Qiu Lingshan quite a headache!

On the surface nothing had happened yet, and her fretting like this looked like trouble borrowed for nothing, but Qiu Lingshan was someone who hated evil with a passion, and whenever she saw something unreasonable she could not help looking at it with suspicious eyes.

"Whew..." Qiu Lingshan set the files at hand aside and rubbed her aching temples. Being a leader was clearly no easy job, not nearly as simple as being a foot soldier in the old days. Everything needed her attention, and all she wanted was for peaceful Songshan City to suffer no more mishaps.

She hoped this was only her being oversensitive, nothing but coincidence.

And what had Wei Zhao been up to? For some time now Wei Zhao had lost contact with her. She wanted to call and ask about his whereabouts, yet she had no reason. In the past she always sought him out to help crack cases, but without a pretext she really did not know what to say!

Qiu Lingshan was well aware of the series of incidents that had shaken Songshan City a few days before. In her position, no major event in Songshan could escape her notice!

The Yu family, the Xiao family, and the hidden Zhao family had all gone to Gu Pengzhan's residence to force his hand. Qiu Lingshan knew about that too, but there was nothing she could do. She herself came from an aristocratic family, and she knew that at the level of those houses, the methods and rules of the secular world no longer held any binding power over them!

She had dearly wanted to help, but thinking of her own strength at the late Huang stage, she knew she would be of no use if she went, nothing but a burden, so she had to abandon the idea! Still, hearing that Wei Zhao had lost all his power and been driven into a corner, she could not help worrying about him!

For some reason she could not explain, Qiu Lingshan always harbored an indescribable feeling toward Wei Zhao. He was the first man who had ever dared to shout at her to her face. The young masters of other prominent families showered her with flattery and praise whenever they met her, yet Wei Zhao had cursed her as a brain-dead chick!

That infuriated her, and at the same time stirred some inexplicable emotion in her heart! Angry, yet unable to fight back, and not daring to fight back, she had no choice but to endure it in helpless resignation, and gradually she had come to enjoy this feeling of being conquered!

At times Qiu Lingshan even wondered whether she had a touch of masochism in her? But then she shook her head at once. The truth was she had wanted to resist, all right? She simply had no way to resist, so she could only swallow her pride for the moment. It was only habit becoming second nature, that was all!

Thinking of Wei Zhao unsettled her. She hastily tidied the documents on her desk and glanced at the wall clock. It was already past nine at night.

Qiu Lingshan yawned, switched off the office lights, locked the door, and turned into the inner room of her office.

She was single, and because of the special nature of her work, when she worked too late at night she often simply slept in the lounge inside her office.

After washing her face and brushing her teeth, Qiu Lingshan lay down on the bed, tossing and turning and unable to sleep, wanting to call Wei Zhao.

She checked the time. It was already ten, and she feared Wei Zhao might be asleep.

Yet as if possessed, Qiu Lingshan still picked up her phone and dialed Wei Zhao's number.

Wei Zhao was naturally not asleep. He had just returned empty-handed from Uncle Qing, taken a shower, and was toweling himself dry when Qiu Lingshan's call came in.

"Hello?" Wei Zhao answered the call.

"It's me..." Qiu Lingshan said hesitantly and carefully.
