The hidden Pi family? Though the Xiao family was only a bottom-tier family, they knew something of the hidden families, and of course they knew that one of the hidden families was the Pi family! This hidden Pi family was even more powerful than the hidden Zhao family. Yet the Xiao family had never once imagined that Uncle Pi was actually someone who had come out of the hidden Pi family! What a formidable existence that was!
At this thought, Xiao Ji and Xiao Ben were seized with excitement, and at the same time their hearts filled with unease! For in the face of the hidden Pi family, opportunity and danger walked side by side! If they could forge a connection with the hidden Pi family, the Xiao family would leap at once from a bottom-tier family to a first-rate one. But the crucial question was: what had brought the hidden Pi family here today? As things stood, there was a ninety percent chance they had come over Uncle Pi's injuries!
And Uncle Pi had been injured beneath Gou Huli's wheels. In that case, the hidden Pi family would be doing well merely not to make trouble for the Xiao family — would they still help the Xiao family?
"So it is Young Master Pi and Second Young Master Pi!" Xiao Ben did not dare be negligent, nor did he dare presume on his seniority. He nervously and cautiously addressed Pi Zhifeng and Pi Zhitao as Young Master Pi and Second Young Master Pi, while his mind kept weighing their purpose in coming.
Pi Zhifeng nodded, accepting the title with pleasure: "By the way, what exactly happened to my Uncle Pi? Tell me the whole of it in detail."
Xiao Ji and Xiao Ben's hearts tightened at once, and the two brothers exchanged a glance. Sure enough, this visit from the hidden Pi family boded no good — they had come over the matter of Uncle Pi's injury!
Xiao Ben shot Xiao Ji a look, signaling that he would do the explaining, and Xiao Ji was naturally glad to let him; if he had to tell it himself, he would not be able to make it clear anyway!
"This... the truth of the matter is like this..." Xiao Ben no longer dared conceal anything. Before experts like Pi Zhifeng and Pi Zhitao, it was better to speak honestly; otherwise, should the truth come to light, the Xiao family would fare even worse! So he could only recount the course of events exactly as they had happened, including that Uncle Pi had in the end been struck and injured by Gou Huli's car!
"My apologies. That woman drives with utter recklessness. I will bring her here at once, to be dealt with as the two Young Masters Pi see fit!" At this point Xiao Ji did not dare shield Gou Huli either, especially since for the past few days he had felt that the Xiao family had been ruined by her.
"No need!" Pi Zhifeng waved his hand, cutting Xiao Ji off. This time he had come on the Pi family's behalf to discuss an important matter with the Xiao family. Toward the Xiao family he must apply both kindness and severity: show them a strong front to overawe them, and also grant them certain benefits at the proper moment. Only so would the Xiao family willingly risk their lives for the Pi family!
Pi Zhifeng was young, but having followed his grandfather's side within the Pi family, he had learned no small number of ways to handle people and affairs. Domineering as he was, he had the capital to be domineering.
"In this matter, as you have said, Gou Huli is indeed responsible — but only secondarily," Pi Zhifeng said flatly.
"Thank you for your magnanimity, Young Master Pi!" Xiao Ben said hurriedly. Whatever else, Pi Zhifeng's attitude made Xiao Ben breathe a sigh of relief! Had the Pi family insisted on demanding satisfaction from the Xiao family, the Xiao family would have been no match at all! After all, that was the hidden Pi family!
"However, you had best not rejoice too soon! For the Xiao family, death may be spared, but the living punishment cannot be escaped. In this matter, you too must bear a share of the consequences!" Pi Zhifeng snorted and smiled coldly.
