Feng Xiaoxiao's change was not lost on Feng Tianlong and Tang Zhi; both of them breathed a sigh of relief at the same time.
It was not long before Feng Xiaoxiao opened her eyes. The first thing she saw was Wei Zhao's blood-dripping finger! She was badly startled, thinking she was still trapped in a nightmare from which she hadn't woken, and she cried out in panic, "Ah—!"
"Xiaoxiao, you're awake?" Only then did Wei Zhao withdraw his finger, silently beginning to circulate the Xuanyuan Dragon-Taming Art to heal the wound. To his dismay, however, he found that his body had not a trace of energy left—how could he possibly repair the wound on his finger now?
Wei Zhao forced a wry smile and could only take out a bottle of wound medicine and apply some to the cut. He had given all his true qi to Feng Xiaoxiao, quite forgetting that this would be the case.
"Hubby Wei Zhao?" Only then did Feng Xiaoxiao make out that the person before her was Wei Zhao, though she didn't understand why he had placed a bleeding finger on her forehead.
"Xiaoxiao, you really woke up? That's just wonderful!" By now Feng Tianlong had also hurried to Feng Xiaoxiao's bedside, looking at his daughter who had woken up before him, his heart filled with a mixture of surprise and joy.
"Ah... Dad! Why are you here too?" Feng Xiaoxiao blushed with embarrassment. She had actually called Wei Zhao "hubby" right in front of her father just now!
"Xiaoxiao, you were unconscious earlier—didn't you know?" Feng Tianlong was in no mood to give any thought to whether his daughter had called Wei Zhao "hubby" in front of him; even if she had, it didn't matter. In Feng Tianlong's view, Wei Zhao was a very fine son-in-law—at the very least, he was quite satisfied with him! So the closer Feng Xiaoxiao and Wei Zhao became, the happier Feng Tianlong was.
"I was unconscious... it seems I was..." Only when Feng Tianlong said this did Feng Xiaoxiao recall: "Earlier I felt a little tight in the chest and uncomfortable, so I wanted to lie on the bed for a while, but I only felt worse. Later, it seemed I fell asleep and didn't know anything anymore..."
"Xiaoxiao, you were a hair's breadth away from stepping through the gates of hell just now—it was Wei Zhao who saved you!" Feng Tianlong heaved a sigh. Although he knew there was no telling when his daughter's affliction would flare up again, in any case, it was always good to have another day of life.
"Ah!" Feng Xiaoxiao recalled how Wei Zhao's bleeding finger had shaken back and forth before her face—could it be that he was healing her? On reflection, it really seemed possible. Last time, in the hotel in Yanjing, when she had awoken, the bedsheets had been full of bloodstains, and at the time she had simply assumed Wei Zhao had pushed her down on the bed! Now, realizing that Wei Zhao had used his own blood to treat her, Feng Xiaoxiao felt immensely grateful: "Thank you, hubby Wei Zhao!"
"What is there to thank?" Wei Zhao smiled faintly. "You said it yourself: I'm your husband, so why thank me?"
"Hee hee, true enough!" Feng Xiaoxiao was once again her normal giggling, joking self.
Tang Zhi let out a long breath and looked at Wei Zhao. "Wei Zhao, you're all right, aren't you?"
"I'm fine. I'll be good after some rest." Wei Zhao did indeed look quite feeble at that moment! In fact, he truly was feeble—he had no true qi left and had shed a great deal of blood. How could he not be weak?
But the discovery of a way to prolong Feng Xiaoxiao's life filled Wei Zhao with joy! Though his true qi had no effect on Feng Xiaoxiao, his blood worked like an excellent remedy—it could bring Feng Xiaoxiao back to consciousness!
And yet, thinking about it, not much time had passed since the last auction, and already Feng Xiaoxiao had fallen ill again. Wei Zhao was not optimistic in the least. He had no idea how long this would last, or when the next attack would come, or whether his blood would still be of use when it did.
