"Safe Kiss?" Some of the students knew this game and immediately cheered with excitement.
"Yes, the Safe Kiss. I'm sure you've seen similar games in novels and TV dramas, and many variety shows feature games like this!" Gao Xiaofu explained. "Two people kiss with a sheet of plastic wrap or a pane of glass in between. That way, everyone gets the thrill of a romantic experience, but neither party actually loses anything. What do you think?"
"Sounds great!" The boys were the first to agree! In truth, most of the boys harbored a dream girl in their hearts. They simply hadn't confessed their feelings or pursued anything before because of the college entrance exam. But now that they'd graduated and the crushing pressure of academics was gone, everyone's thoughts had begun to stir. If they could plant a kiss on the lips of the girl they adored, that would be a mighty fine thing indeed!
But the girls acted coy and hesitant. After all, most of them were still quite conservative, and this Safe Kiss game was a bit too bold for comfort!
Gao Xiaofu naturally noticed all of this, so he began working the crowd again: "This Safe Kiss game shows up all the time on TV variety shows — even celebrities play it with their fans! You know that pure-and-innocent virgin idol, what's her name again? Didn't she play Safe Kiss with her fans too? The reason it's called a Safe Kiss is because it's perfectly safe — nobody loses anything! And besides, everyone will be paired up by drawing lots, so it's absolutely fair and impartial!"
Gao Xiaofu certainly knew how to stir people up, and since most of them had had a little to drink, their heads were running a bit hot. The girls thought about it too: it was just a kiss through a pane of glass or a sheet of plastic wrap — they wouldn't lose anything either.
Still, some girls hesitated, because they already shared a private, unspoken understanding with certain boys in the class. Their relationship hadn't been declared outright, but there was clearly something between them. If they played Safe Kiss with someone else at a time like this, it might not seem like a big deal — but if it made the other party jealous, things could turn unpleasant!
Hearing the murmurs from the crowd below, Gao Xiaofu quickly chimed in: "We'll write the girls' names on slips of paper and have the boys draw lots. If two boys happen to draw the same girl, they can swap with each other — if they're already a couple, you can't just steal someone's love, right?"
This put the girls' last doubts to rest. If swapping was allowed, everything was fine. As for the couples in the class who had feelings for each other — though nothing had been declared openly, everyone actually knew what was going on. Nobody would muscle in on someone else's territory; that would just make everyone uncomfortable.
Moreover, the girls and boys could choose freely as well.
And so, under Gao Xiaofu's coaxing and persuasion, the majority of the students agreed.
Gu Mengyao, however, frowned: "What kind of nonsense game is this? I don't want to play. Xiaoshu, let's sit this one out!"
"Don't be like that, Mengyao-jie. What if Brother Jianpai draws us?" Shen Yushu had no intention of giving up this chance for fun.
Gu Mengyao had meant to refuse, but after hearing what Shen Yushu said, something shifted, and she suddenly found herself reluctant to decline...
As she wavered, she voiced no objection, and so Zhong Yongliang and Gao Xiaofu began cutting the paper slips, preparing the draw for everyone.
"When you make Gu Mengyao's slip, give one corner a tiny nick — that way I'll be the one who picks it up," Zhong Yongliang said. He hadn't given up on Gu Mengyao. Seeing that Wei Zhao had failed to make any progress, his ambitions stirred once more!
